OMG Stanley Clarke and his band were terrific. Supported by 3 young amazing musicians, he went through all the big tunes. As always he blows me away with his bass playing and he let his bandmates stretch out and display their talent.
Never tire of seeing and hearing his expertise!!! Would truly recommend to others.
Way to play the night away... Stanley Clarke worked the stage, guitar, and the capacity filled music-loving crowd. His partners in crime met and exceeded music boundaries. Jam sessions, straight ahead, then dropped knowledge of the Dukey funk stick. Yea hey! We rised to the occasion and HE Elevated to another level. Elizabeth Mahogony pretty. Hiroshima Arigato. Sansei Dan conjured another place of tranquil bliss with June stringing us along koto notes. Like no other. LAX/DTW good connection.
My husband and I enjoyed the concert very much. Both Hiroshima and The Stanley Clarke Band were great..
Amazing concert! The acoustics was perfect, can't wait till Stanley Clark come back.
My wife and I had a great time. Stanley was in great form and the young musicians in his band were fantastic! Cant wait until he's back in town!
Stanley is one of the preeminent jazz musicians of this era. His catalog of music spans a few decades and is amazing. Therefore, I was excited to see him in this intimate setting. However, it appears he doesn't have the stamina or the passion to play for an entire event. He had three musicians with him and they were all great. Yet, he gave the drummer solos that went on for several minutes at a time. This occurred repeatedly. It was disappointing to witness this. Although the drummer was very talented, I paid to see Stanley. He did School Days and what appeared to be Good Bye Pork Pie Hat. Yet, even those were not the same as the drummer changed and took over those songs. I will continue to listen to his music. It is classic. I just doubt that I'll pay to see him live again.
Great show!! Hope to see him again. He still the "King of Bass". His show is never long enough cause he has so much to share.
You will never see a bad Stanley show, period. Always amazing musicianship. I've seen him several times with different bands. Would like to see a guitarist in his group however.
Was a great show as is always the case with Stanley Clarke. His young band really showed their chops.
Excellent show and stage of musicians!! Would love to see Stanley live again.
Variety Playhouse was a very good venue especially because everyone stayed in their seats! This band was very disappointing because 1) started 30min. late 2) Clarke came out playing a base guitar, which he is not known for instead of his signature instrument- base vile. 3) the amps were turned up so high that our chests were vibrating! horrible,: i mean, this was NOT a hard rock concert!! 4) the band and Clarke seemed to be new to each other because they obviously had not rehearsed much together. the drummer seem to have thought he was the main event...he played so loud and actually overshadowed Clarke! It seemed as though each member was doing his own thing irrespective and unaware of each other. it was clear the very young band (2 members were 19 and 20 yr. old) was unfamiliar with Clarke's style. Totally disjointed ...on the pro side; they did perform for almost 2 hr.
Killer performance. Worth every penny. Schooled by a legend.
I've seen Brutha Stanley many times over the last 40 years And this show was simply Outstanding! Stanley surrounded himself with 3 extraordinary young musicians (18, 20 n 31). who carried me to places only experienced in the early days of SC and RTF. I so enjoyed my evening and met some very nice people. Can't wait to catch another session.
First time at this Venue. The sound was amazing, the view awesome and the music was exceptional! We will definitely look for other shows coming to this theater. The only downside was the seating. We will definitely arrive early next time.
We love this venue. Stanley Clarke and his band were amazing. The young talent that he has with him is beyond their years.
Stanley Clarke is awesome. The only downside to the event is that it started 30 minutes late.
Fantastic! Went last year and will go again next year.
I love Stanley Clarke. Period. I been able to catch him in concert many times since the 1970s starting with Return to Forever. He, and the rest of the band, were just great, but let me single out the drummer. Mike Mitchell - young, dynamic and a force to be reckoned with. I play the drums. Since 1964, I've toured, recorded and gigged all over the place so I know what I'm talking about. This kid was amazing. He was playing licks that weren't even considered when I started playing. Other then that, I liked the venue's acoustics, but the seating was tight and uncomfortable.
