About

STAIND IN CONCERT:

With three consecutive No. 1 albums of anthemic nu metal in the '00s, Staind became one of the most successful alt-rock groups of the decade.  Blending muscular guitar shredding and singer Aaron Lewis's emotional, melodic lyrics, the band's impressive live shows span their entire discography, treating fans to studio-perfect renditions of their biggest hits alongside alternative, countrified versions of songs like "Mudshovel."

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Formed in Massachusetts in 1994, Staind started out playing hard rock covers in local clubs before self-releasing their 1996 debut Tormented. While they only pressed four thousand copies, the album garnered enough attention to land them a deal with Flip Records and the production assistance of Limp Bizkit's Fred Durst for their 1999 follow-up Dysfunction. The album received favorable reviews and drew comparisons to nu metal legends like Korn, but its reception paled in comparison to 2001's Break the Cycle, an international No. 1 and multi-platinum smash. The band's next four albums would all land in the Top 5 of the Billboard 200, establishing an impressive catalog of hits and building anticipation for the band's rumored return to the studio in 2014.

FANS WHO BOUGHT TICKETS SAY:

"Staind was unbelievable. The band sounded amazing. Aaron's voice gives you chills live. They played everything...They even played quite a few new songs which they totally killed on."

"Staind dug deeply into their classics to get the crowd going. Aaron Lewis was great and seemed to be having fun during an audience participation sequence. Staind played every song I wanted to hear plus more so I left very satisfied."

"I expected a top flight show from Staind and got it...they exceeded my expectations. They had a great mix of hard and soft music; all Staind."

    Shinedown is a show stealer

by Page868 on 7/10/09Merriweather Post Pavilion - Columbia

Incorporating multiple bands into a show has its up side and down side. Pro- you get more for the money. Con- Setlists are short and if you are there for a relatively unknown band {Halestorm} count yourself lucky if you get more than 4 songs. I am not a Staind fan, but I do appreciate the band for their wild enthusiasm, they were crowd pleasers. I did not enjoy the technical errors while playing, these make it impossible to follow a song or even engage with the band while they are playing. Halestorm, while relatively new, was really good. They have a great sound with amazing energy and are definitely in tune with their fans and newly emerging fan base. The Drum chorus the band did together was phenomenal. Chevelle was a disappointment, almost like a band that did not even want to be in the show. They were not very energetic, their playing was subpar and their energy was near zero. I like Chevelle. I went to see Chevelle. It was not the magical experience I had hoped for and I hope the band realizes that even if your star is waning, there are some loyal followers who still would love to see you bring the house down. The night was stolen by Shinedown's performance. These guys brought more to the stage and everyone to their feet. They remember how and who got them where they are and they catered to the fans every whim! If for nothing more than Shinedown, the show was amazing. I'm sorry I spent as much as I did to see them, but at the end of the night, it was so worth it!

    Staind and Shinedown were fabulous!

by cre8debi on 7/10/09Merriweather Post Pavilion - Columbia

The overall concert was fabulous but the sound people need to be trained differently to accommodate an outdoor arena such as Merriweather Post Pavillion. The voices need to be heard when the band members are trying to talk to the audience and the instruments need to be kept quiet so they can be heard. The mixing is mumble jumbled and voices are hard to be heard throughout the evening. In mixing, such a large open space things need to be taken in account and the sound people need to be doing a much better job than they are. The opening act, Halestorm was terrible. She, the lead singer, came out before her band and she was screaming, oh yeah she thought she was singing, sorry, singing, into the microphone and hear again the mixing needed to be turned down on her big time. She could not be understood by anyone where we were sitting. We were in the pavillion, row FF. The drummer was absolutely ridiculous and trying to be a ham for the monitors. There music was marginal at best and they were not tight at all. Chevelle was a tough band to do work in an outdoor arena where the acoustics are as difficult as they are. Chevelle, with his deep sultry voice needs to be in an indoor arena that is small to focus on his words, his voice and their music. Shinedown did a great job and the energy of the band was terrific. Again, the sound was done poorly and needed much help. Especially on the song Devour. Tough song to do in an open arena and changes needed to happen on that mixing board so that you could actually hear the song instead of it being just one big noise. Staind was fabulous, of course Aaron Lewis is the best! Favorite part was the acoustical pieces. MIssed him at Rams Head when he was alone.....was very sorry I had to miss that show. Guitar player was totally off the beat of the music being played but I guess not the music in his own head. He was jumping around to some beat that wasn't even close to the one they were playing...ever! Light show was great. Night was great!

    Staind is the real deal

by tddawg17 on 7/10/09Merriweather Post Pavilion - Columbia

i dont think there is a better combo than Staind / Shinedown. Aaron Lewis got some pipes. This was by far the best concert i have been to in recent memory. in fact i have to put in the top 3 i have ever been to. the only negative was that Shinedown failed to play their best song. Simple Man. still cant figure put why. otherwise great show.

    SHINEDOWN ROCKED!!!!

by XrFadeToBlackrX on 7/10/09Merriweather Post Pavilion - Columbia

They must have started right at 7 because I got there at 7:16 and, by the time I walked in the gates, Halestorm was done playing. So, that really sucked, but Chevelle was awesome. Sinedown was the best, and Staind disappointed me. I was surprised they didn't play more of the songs that are played on the radio. They were good overall though. I would definitely go to Merriweather again!! Moreso, I would definitely see SHINEDOWN again!!!

    STAIND WAS GREAT!!

by aaronfan on 7/10/09Merriweather Post Pavilion - Columbia

Great concert overall. Staind was great. Aaron is amazing!! Shinedown sounded great but the lead singer wasted too much time talking and walking through the crowd. They could have easily played another two songs. I'm not a Chevelle fan, but others at the show loved them. Halestorm's lead singer did a great job.

    Awesome Show!

by Genuinethoughts on 7/10/09Merriweather Post Pavilion - Columbia

Four bands on a thursday night that rocked hard! Excellent show. Thanks to Aaron Lewis wanting to make this a show for the people. Aaron - right on target! The opener of Hailstorm set the tone of what was to be the rest of the evening. Chevelle revved it up a notch, while StainD did a great job themselves.

    SHINEDOWN/STAIND EXCELLENCE

by kristinewynn on 7/10/09Merriweather Post Pavilion - Columbia

The concert was excellent and the venue was phenomenal. Every seat was great. We were on the lawn at Merriweather and it was heavenly. You could be in a crowd if you wanted or have some space if you wanted. What phenomenal talent!

    Staind was crazy-awesome!!!

by Woodsy on 7/10/09Merriweather Post Pavilion - Columbia

Staind produced a great show with really clear sound. All the guys sounded great. The crowd rocked with them on many of the songs. We had lawn seats and they were the awesome. For a very reasonable price, we got to see a great show. I hope they come back to Merriweather next year - we'll definitely be there!

Staind was boring, everyone else rocked!

by Garrett on 7/10/09Merriweather Post Pavilion - Columbia

The first three bands rocked. Halestorm isn't that well known, so its obvious they wouldn't get a whole lot of crowd reaction, but since that was my third time seeing them, it was an absolute blast! Had never listened to Chevelle or seen them before so it's hard to review them, but they got people out of their seat and made for a good set. And Shinedown.. easily the best band of the night. Interacted before and after every single song, got everyone who had a seat jumping, even got the lawn moving. Unbelieveable. Staind was horrible, we left after 5 songs. After Shinedown left, it was like the energy was gone. The pit wasn't even moving, there was only one small mosh pit, and that even seemed half hearted. Sad really, because the rest of the night was awesome. Bottom line: Only go for the first 3, Staind was just plain boring.

    Halestorm was impressive!

by Wong on 7/10/09Merriweather Post Pavilion - Columbia

The whole show was awesome. You can always expect a good show from Aaron Lewis and Staind and from Shine down, but Halestorm was very impressive. Love the voice.

    Great Show!

by drgnlvr89 on 7/10/09Merriweather Post Pavilion - Columbia

I actually prefered the opening act to the headliner, but overall, all four bands were really great. Halestorm and Shinedown were amazing, and Chevelle has always been great. Lzzy from Halestorm can sing like crazy and the drummer is just as crazy good. Shinedown lives up to their hype of being a great live band and were just flat amazing. Performed great songs, but I wish they would have sung a few more or had a duet or something. Overall, well worth the money and the drive!

    Staind was a hit!

by Nabes on 7/10/09Merriweather Post Pavilion - Columbia

All of the bands were a hit in my book. I had never heard of Halestorm and I really enjoyed their music. They have encouraged me to buy their album. Shinedown and Chevelle were my absolute favorite. Shinedown really excited the crowd.

by Brassey on 7/10/09Merriweather Post Pavilion - Columbia

This entire concert was awesome. I want them to come back and perform again soon! Chevelle is my favorite band, but they ALL were great. I love all three. It was worth the 3 hour drive.
