SPOON IN CONCERT:

Veteran art rockers Spoon continue to enjoy both indie cred and mainstream popularity, entering their third decade together as one of independent music's most visible crossover successes. As creative in concert as they are in the studio, the band has earned a reputation as a consummate live act, consistently thrilling fans on their critically acclaimed tours with ambitious renditions of fan favorites like "I Turn My Camera On" and "Stay Don't Go". Whether they're treating ticket buyers to cuts from 2014's They Want My Soul or covering bands like the Smiths and Guided by Voices, Spoon brings a passion and energy to the stage that always elevate their shows to the next level.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Spoon was formed in Austin in 1993 by lead singer and guitarist Britt Daniel and drummer Jim Eno. Following a 1994 EP release the band signed to Matador Records, debuting their first full-length album Telephono to mixed reviews in 1996. By the time the band released the Soft Effects EP in 1997 they had begun to hone in on the more polished, minimal sound they would become known for, but it wasn't until they released the album Girls Can Tell in 2001 that they finally achieved breakthrough success. A string of critically and commercially successful albums followed throughout the decade, including two No. 1 records on the Top Independent Albums chart -- 2005's Gimme Fiction and 2007's Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga. With their highly anticipated eighth album They Want My Soul hitting shelves in 2014, Spoon has fans eagerly awaiting their next live shows.

FANS WHO BOUGHT TICKETS SAY:

"Spoon was excellent. Tight, professional. Brit rocked the house. They played old as well as new material."

"I highly recommend seeing them live, because they're fantastic musicians and they play a very interesting set as compared to their albums."

"Spoon's show was as awesome and intricate as their complex studio albums! To be able to pull off the complexity of their studio recordings live was amazing to hear and see. They were so tight and I don't think they made a mistake, and the light show was awesome as well."

    Spoon@Radio City

Good show, bad audience. A fight broke out in our section, hard to believe

Spoon and Deerhunter were fantastic. Spoon played a 2:1 ratio of oldies but goodies. Deerhunter played a lot from Microcastle.

I like 'em better in small venues

by Freddya29 on 3/27/10Radio City Music Hall - New York

I thought they were overwhelmed by the bigger venue of Radio City. Incredible guitar work though.

Good mix of musical acts. Good set from Deerhunter just got a little self indulgent at the end of the set and felt like I was being tortured at some prisoner camp with sustained noise. Spoon did a great job...tight sound...nice touch with horn section for a few songs.

    Spoon rocks Radio City

by leafhopper77 on 3/27/10Radio City Music Hall - New York

After an overly long and self-indulgent set by Deerhunter, the crowd was a bit tired and bored. Spoon came out, starting off with acoustic versions of Me and Bean, and Mystery Zone. They then kicked into Written in Reverse--Britt Daniel played a mean, buzzing guitar and his voice was spot on. Lots of great bluesy jams, with great piano, drums, and guitar. The sound mixing was perfect--not too loud with great balance. Just a wonderful show and a great venue for one of my favorite bands!

    Spoon sucked

by asdfasdf1 on 3/27/10Radio City Music Hall - New York

Spoon decided to play only 1-2 songs from their old album, the new one is horrible, what a waste!

I missed Deerhunter which was the only reason I went in the first place, and they are actually good. Spoon is awful.

Incredible performance by Spoon, but not crazy about the assigned seating venue atmosphere. And Radio City closes at midnight, so they had to cut their second encore short... lame.

Spoon Great - but sound system has been better

by TommySpoonFan on 3/27/10Radio City Music Hall - New York

Have been a fan of Spoon for quite some time and they did not let their fans down. The folks running the sound system, however should learn that sometimes, "less is more". I was in the 2nd Mezz and had to endure far too high volumes by speakers aimed directly at us. They even kicked it up during the intermissions. Painful. Headache inducing. Hearing loss, no doubt. Deerhunter was very good, but feel they let their Animal Collective-like sound effects go on a bit too long, which when coupled with the "more is better" sound controllers, was a bit too much to endure, at times.

I thought that Spoon was amazing. However, their two opening numbers weren't quite up to par. It wasn't that deerhunter and then strange boys were bad just that it seemed like the wrong venue for them. Without being able to dance, you just kind of went into a trance which bordered on boredom for most of the opening numbers. Also, Spoon brought on a guest singer for two numbers who wasn't at the same level as they are musically. They need to find musicians their level to bring on tour with them (although I do love the White Rabbits).

    Spoon is always amazing....

by MeAndTheBean on 3/26/10The National - Richmond

Spoon & Deerhunter are a great match! Both bands are super friendly, accessible, and appreciative of their fans...and they both put on a fantastic show! And the Strange Boys were a great choice…really good. I will definitely look up more of their music. Overall, a fantastic show!

    Not bad spoon

by Anonymous on 3/26/10The National - Richmond

The National is a really good place to see a concert. Spoon played a great set. The two opening acts, however brought the whole show down. Deerhunter, Strange Boys were not very good, and they played for a long time. Two and a half hours before Spoon started a 1h20m performance.

Spoon was incredible! nice venue too

    by martin79 on 3/25/10The National - Richmond

Spoon blew the roof off at the Richmond show at the National. Better than I expected. The level of musicianship with this guys was truly impressive-- one of the best shows I have ever been to. I had never before been to a show at the National-- great venue, nice setup with different standing areas and seats, great bar setup with nice beer selections, never had to wait for a beer even with a sold out show.

    Strong and Engaging show

by lauramn on 3/25/10The National - Richmond

Spoon kept the venue rocking throughout their entire set! They played mostly newer material, and it was great to see them after a 2 year wait!

    best touring band around

by megmac on 3/25/10The National - Richmond

this us the fifth or sixth time I've seen spoon and they just keep getting better. they didn't play in chapel hill this tour so I drove 4 hours to see them and I would do it again. they do not disappoint with the exception that they have so many great songs now that it's impossible for them to play all of them. I was a liittle bummed they didn't play "trouble comes running" or " who makes your money" but loved their cover of The Damned's "love song". preferred the walkmen, white rabbit as opening acts.

    SPOON rocked it!

by captainarz on 2/4/10McMenamins Crystal Ballroom - Portland

This was my first time seeing SPOON as a whole, I saw Britt at his solo show back in October (which was also amazing). To make an epic story short, they put on a great show. They sounded fan-freaking-tastic and played a solid set of older classics and a few from their newest album "Transference". If you havent seen Spoon live, get it done. They will be in Seattle this April, its a bit of a drive but Its worth it!
