Fantastic show. Great energy felt all around me and generated by Spirit Family Reunion. I would recommend checking them out before they blow up and it becomes impossible to get tickets to see them. They are that good!
The silence that accompanied the opening song was in stark contrast to the sounds of appreciation that would continue through the night. I've seen SFR more times than I can count and they never disappoint. Last night was particularly sweet because they've been out of town for awhile. The 3 or 4 new songs were fantastic and those from the "No Separation" CD still sound awesome. The band had a great time and so did we. During the encore, at some point I think it was the band's turn to listen as the audience sang loudly the closing refrain of I'll Find a Way. Magic.
This was the first time I came to Bowery Ballroom. I enjoyed the layout of the place with a bar area in the basement and then up the stairs to the actual ballroom and then a balcony. Seeing Spirit Family Reunion from the balcony with a sea of heads covering the sold out floor was magical. I sat in the loving cup for sunday brunch when they were playing to like 10 people and now only 3 years later they sell out a 500+ capacity venue. I am always amazed on the nice, polite, and genuine feelings of togetherness that the crowd at their shows produce. Everyone is so friendly and happy, willing to move to let people by or so others can see, I love to see this kind of behavior. I even got to see the inside of the bathroom stall for an unknown period of time because as soon as the band finished I got too drunk and ended up sick. It was worth it all however because I was just so happy and joyous to see people at the local show I don't get to see usually. In the end go and see SFR for yourself and you too can see how this band makes it a show to remember not just for the band but for the experience.
The band was great, so high energy. We had so much fun, foot-stomping, clapping and singing along all night! This band is best seen live and I can't wait to see them again!
Spirit Family Reunion was great. Venue OK. Concert promoted as starting at 8:00, but didn't see this band until 11:00!
The first act, Spitzer Space Telescope - this guy is really talented. Needs to be louder. People couldn't hear the set, so they talked and he was upset. We were upset, because he was good and we couldn't hear it. Hope to hear him again soon. The second act, I believe they were caled Thick Wild. The lead singer captivated the audience with song 1 and everyone flocked in to listen. Solid set, with a real treat- the drummer played the saw for a few songs, which you dont't hear often. Spirit Family Reunion, act 3. Never disappoints. I went with a group of friends who hadn't seen them and they all had a blast and ended up dancing. This is almost always the outcome of their shows! Get out and see these guys any chance you get.
