  • Spencer's Always a Treat

by DayFanAlways on 10/22/10Palace of Fine Arts - San FranciscoRating: 5 out of 5

Spencer played to a small crowd at the Palace of Fine Arts but delivered a great set, with energy and enthusiasm. In addition to favorites from Vagabond, he did some new songs that will be included in his next album being recorded in winter. The true show stoppers were his very slow and very sexy Buddy Holly cover Oh Boy! and his encore cover of Simon & Garfunkel--The Only Living Boy in New York. Spencer is a true gem. After his new album is out, which we hope includes Lost in LA, we can only hope he does a set of covers which can only be true genius.

A very god performance and great songwriter, look forward to more of his songs and especially his Famous Women series and eventual Broadway musical of same. Also a very good singer and piano player, hope he returns for more performances in the Bay. Am interested in his next CD whenever it comes out, do like his first.

  • Spencer was amazing as always

Spencer hasn't been in San Francisco for about a year. He did a lot of songs from his current album Vagabond and some new songs that will be on his next album that he is going to start recording soon. This was the tighest band I have ever seen Spencer perform with and their harmonies were off the charts. His new violinist, Paul, is a genius and really gets Spencer's music. Anybody who missed this show missed one of the best shows Spencer has ever done.

  • Spencer Day is Great

Loved hearing the songs from the album and really loved all the others, too. Some new, some old. Only one cover - of a Buddy Holly song, slowed down to a ballad - that sent shivers down my spine.

  • Specer day made mine

Spencer Day, together with a long time friend on cello or guitar, another member playing stand up bass acoustic, and finally Paul Cartwright(?) on mandolin, and violin made for a very enjoyable evening. Played mostly from either his Vagabond CD or from some new material, not yet released. His singing and performance were very good, especially on a cover of Buddy Holly's Oh Boy! The slowed down tempo with his delivery was a show stopper in and of itself. His new song, TAKEN like a lot of his music is filled with good intelligent lyrics that catch the ear and mind with a big WOW. He cuts close to the bone but with a knife of truth. He did a medley of two numbers that was so well integrated and played by all members that it was like chamber music or a quartet. Really well done. He also had a friend from Sonoma, who he works with on some songs or music in for a few numbers. The only drawback to the evening was the smallness of the crowd. Though we more than made up for it in enthusiasm. Had not heard him before live, but he is much better than on CD which is a nice surprise. He is still young and it will be fun to watch him grown and listen to where he is going. Worth the money at twice the price.

  • Incredible voice, great songs!

Spencer sang with ease and conviction. His voice is fantastic! The music had a blues vibe to it, mixing in a little bluegrass on two of them, even a mandolin in the all acoustic backing band. Performing mostly original songs that are clever and really pull you into their story, I enjoyed every moment of the show.
