About

Space Jesus In Concert

His name may sound tongue-in-cheek, but Space Jesus' mission is deadly serious. The Boulder, Colorado, producer has come to spread the gospel of bass. Space bass, to be precise — a West Coast strain of bass music that takes dubstep's serrated low end, combines it with hip-hop's in-the-pocket grooves, and tweaks the resulting fusion to cutting-edge (but still highly listenable) ends.

Born and raised in New Jersey, Space Jesus — his real name is Jasha Tull — grew up playing saxophone, clarinet, piano, and guitar. He started making beats on Fruity Loops when he was 14 and graduated to the MPC in high school, fueled by a listening diet of reggae and hip-hop.

It was acts like Shpongle, Infected Mushroom, and Bassnectar that pointed Tull's way toward electronic music that refuses to settle into any preconceived notion of genre. After an early experience producing pop/rap/electronic fusions in the group Planet Cognac, he began carving out his own lane within dance music — a versatile style he's described as "psychedelic electronic hip-hop with a lot of heavy bass and dancey beats."

Since 2011, Tull has built out the dimensions of his sound across a steady stream of singles, EPs, remixes, and digital releases. He dropped his debut album, Close Encounters, in 2015. He kept the tracks coming on 2016's Zoned Vol. 1 and 2018's Mars EP, featuring songs like "Professor Genius" (with Esseks), "Meatball Parm" (with Conrank), and "Omega Robot" (with Subtronics).

Tull also runs side projects Schlang, #$, and Snare Jordan. With such a constant stream of output, it's no wonder his live sets are all original material. His live shows are where the true Space Jesus experience lies, whether that means an intimate club night or a major festival like EDC Orlando, Nocturnal Wonderland, or Electric Zoo.

    Awesome concert, negative crowd.

by Gmoe on 2/25/19Madrid Theatre - Kansas City

Leave your negativity at home friends, space Jesus stopped the show for a girl having a seizure, bless him. But nonetheless don’t go to a concert if you’re gonna complain to each other about one thing or another

    SPACE JESUS

by Allaicca on 11/15/16Encore at The Uptown Theater - Kansas City

This was my first time going to a show like this at the Uptown and my overall experience was enjoyable. Though I would say the event space was rather small for how many people attended.
