About

Hailed as grunge innovators, Soundgarden redefined rock music for a generation. In the 80s and 90s, the band’s mesmerising soundscapes and compelling lyrics seduced audiences hungry for originality. It was a sound rooted deeply within the wild landscape of the Pacific North West. Over a year in the making, Soundgarden’s newest  album ‘King Animal’, was recorded close to their roots in Seattle and is due for release in November 2012. It promises to continue the musical evolution we anticipate from one of the world’s most groundbreaking bands.

Amazing Band at an Amazing Venue

by TSkins on 5/9/17Tuscaloosa Amphitheater - Tuscaloosa

I've waited an entire lifetime to be able to see Soundgarden and it was worth the wait. Chris Cornell and company sounded amazing and they played all the songs I wanted to hear, new and old. It was one of the best shows I've seen in a long time.

The opening act was pretty bad. They were a screamo band that didn't go with Soundgarden. If they had a lead singer that sang instead of screamed, I think they would've been a lot better since the instrumentals were fairly good. At least the lead singer seemed self-aware that his band was not everyone's cup of tea, because he dedicated a song to everyone that thought they sucked. As far as the Soundgarden concert went, it was plagued with bad sound. It's like they jacked up the volume from the opening band level and didn't care if the balance was off. Chris's vocals, in particular, sounded very muddy.

    EPIC PERFORMANCE

by RamJamz on 5/9/17Tuscaloosa Amphitheater - Tuscaloosa

Chris and the band were just what I had hoped to see. They played some new songs which were really good, but when they played the A SIDES it sent chills up my spine. I am 58 years old and I was 40 when I first heard them. I never thought they would play in Tuscaloosa Alabama, but boy did they ever.

    Solid

by GordieSr on 5/9/17Tuscaloosa Amphitheater - Tuscaloosa

Soundgarden never disappoints and the freak of nature whose voice we all envy, Chris Cornell, was spot on all night. Matt Cameron coulld be the greatest touring drummer alive as well. Kim was concentrating and Ben never moved a face muscle the whole night but I understand that could be normal for him. Regardless, they put on a very high energy show and the music was fantastic of course. Lots of cool tunes with cool tunings too!

Ticketmasters ticket buying bots are too fast!!!

by MyNicknameIsJamin on 5/9/17Tuscaloosa Amphitheater - Tuscaloosa

The opening band was good, aside from vocals. The seats were way overpriced, as I bought them from a bot.

    I can die happy.

    by CaroG87 on 5/9/17Tuscaloosa Amphitheater - Tuscaloosa

I have waited a LONG time to see them live, and my dream finally came true. I saw them the prior evening at the Carolina Rebellion festival in Concord NC -- where they rocked it, even with a smaller setlist (to meet festival timeline restrictions). So I truly was looking forward to see what they'd do with a longer time allotment. They did not disappoint -- they could have played all night long, all the hits, and I would have been in pure bliss. As it was, they played mostly the hits, which one would expect with a 30-year catalog. They reached back to the earliest days with "Hunted Down" and continued with a variety that stretched through pieces off 2012's King Animal. I left the shows on Cloud 9, especially after hearing the three songs that got me through some really rough days. HIGHLY recommend seeing them!

Cornell sounded fantastic. These guys were as good as they were in the 90s. A very solid show by Soundgarden. The only downside to the night was the opening act, which was horrific. Not sure how they were chosen to open for such an outstanding group.

    Soundgarden was great

by Ttowntottie on 5/9/17Tuscaloosa Amphitheater - Tuscaloosa

Song selection was perfect. Played most of the songs I wanted to hear. Lead guitar was too loud overshadowed Chris Cornel even though I love a loud show. Great to see this kind of artists come to T-town.

Great to see them together again!

by Geebie on 5/9/17Tuscaloosa Amphitheater - Tuscaloosa

From the unmatchable vocals of Cornell to catching Thayil crack one grin while melting note after note, Ben handling serious business then suddenly kicking up his feet, and Matt flawlessly duplicating original recorded beats to the point of showing that a drum machine is a piece of junk, they showed what incredible talent they are as a team and individually. A show I thought I had missed for a lifetime by not catching them in the 90's, I witnessed a second chance at one of my all time faves, and they did not disappoint.

    Bad Sound Quality

by Scabbeus on 5/9/17Tuscaloosa Amphitheater - Tuscaloosa

The band was awesome but the sound quality was terrible. It was like Chris was singing through a megaphone. I was excited about this show, the first song was awesome but the sound became progressively worse. I'll skip this venue in the future.

    Soundgarden Tuscaloosa, AL

    by jackyl99 on 5/9/17Tuscaloosa Amphitheater - Tuscaloosa

Great venue. Have been looking forward to seeing the Soundgarden since 1992, Lolapalooza 2 at UNO. Still rocking out to some great rock n roll but some of the guitar solos and hooks seemed missing or glossed over on some of their best older material and songs like Black Hole Sun, Outshined, etc... Still a great show to see for nostalgia if you love the Seattle rock sound of the 90's it's a must see.

    Disappointed

    by DisappointedinRowAASt44 on 5/9/17Tuscaloosa Amphitheater - Tuscaloosa

This was one of the most incoherent shows I have been to. Who booked DEP with Soundgarden? Watching the totally confused crowd was priceless. Soundgarden put on one of the poorest performances I've ever seen. Chris Cornell struggled to keep up with his lines, often slowing down so much he got out of sync with the songs and missed lines. "Black Hole Sun" was a low point -- it was clear by then it was just falling apart. I think the sound guy and the bass player got in a fight before the show, because clearly the sound guy won. Bottom line: If you don't still have it, don't go on tour and ruin your legacy. And I say that as someone who is a big fan of Soundgarden / Audioslave / Chris Cornell's solo work.

Soundgarden was awesome! The venue was great too.

by Vyceron on 5/9/17Tuscaloosa Amphitheater - Tuscaloosa

This was our first trip to the Tuscaloosa Amphitheater, and we really loved it! This venue is so nice. We'll definitely keep our eye on upcoming events here. Soundgarden was amazing! They played all of their famous singles. The whole crowd was having a great time. Chris Cornell was very nice, and even signed a couple of items that were passed up from the crowd. The only reason why this event didn't earn 5 stars was the opening act, Dillinger Escape Plan. I get that they're "experimental" or "hardcore", but they were terrible. The singer figured out quickly that the crowd wasn't into their music, so he started dissing us. I'm not sure why the tour planners put DEP with Soundgarden, because they don't mix well at all. I'm honestly not sure which bands would mix well with DEP. Maybe GWAR or Slayer.

    Chris Cornell still has it

    by Thegerman1 on 5/9/17Tuscaloosa Amphitheater - Tuscaloosa

Chris sounds the same a second he did over 20 years ago. He and the rest of the band were awesome. I do wished he had played some of his hits from his other bands but I understand why he didn't.
