About

SOUL ASYLUM IN CONCERT:

Although synths and neon clothing were staples of the '80s, alternative band Soul Asylum stuck to their guns with their guitar-driven grunge sound and ripped jeans. 30 years since after their debut, the band still knows how to rock a crowd, as Dave Pirner's unique, raspy voice carries their powerful music to new heights and stirs emotion in audiences nationwide. Whether they're playing '90s cult classic "Runaway Train" or treating fans to newer tunes, Soul Asylum always deliver a vigorous live performance, and fans can expect more of the same as they hit the road for the Summerland Tour 2014 with fellow rockers Everclear, Eve 6, and Spacehog.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Formed in the early '80s by high school friends Dave Pirner, Dan Murphy, and Karl Mueller, Soul Asylum got their start performing local shows in their home state of Minnesota. After gaining a strong following in the area, they released their 1984 debut Say What You Will...Everything Can Happen, embarking on the first of what would become many rigorous headlining tours. In their three decades together, Soul Asylum have released ten albums, two reaching Platinum certification, as well as two No. 1 singles. As a defining rock band of the '90s, Soul Asylum will bring a healthy dose of nostalgia on the road with them in 2014 as they treat fans to hit-filled sets on their highly anticipated Summerland Tour.

FANS WHO BOUGHT TICKETS SAY:

"Soul Asylum absolutely brought the house down! The show was very high energy and masterfully performed. These guys know what true rock & roll is all about and delivered one hell of a show. I can't recommend it enough!"

"Soul Asylum sounded great. Dave Pirner hasn't lost anything, and the band was tight."

"They were AMAZING and had so much energy! Loved every minute of it, and would definitely see them again!"

    Pretty good

by Pattmare on 2/15/20Saint Andrews Hall - Detroit

Maybe it was where i was standing? Left of stage 10-15 people back... but i could hear him sometimes. Also they didn't play without a trace, summer of drugs and sexual healing. Would have liked to hear those tunes.

    Great Show

by G. S. on 11/5/19CH Mayo Presentation Hall at Mayo Civic Center - Rochester

Great songs, including several new to me. The venue worked even though most people would have liked a bit more room to stand and move around. Another great performance by Soul Asylum!!

Excellent show, great set of songs from many different album

by MJ on 11/5/19CH Mayo Presentation Hall at Mayo Civic Center - Rochester

Pirner takes time to joke with the band and the audience. These guys enjoy playing together and it shows in their energy and you hear it in the music.

Dave Pirner is unforgetable in any setting

by Erin P. on 8/20/19MGM Northfield Park - Neon Room (formerly Club Velvet) - Northfield

Dave is always awesome to see, but in an acoustic set in the small yet comfortable Neon Room, it was kind of like seeing him in my living room - not a bad seat in the house. Dave, as always, brought smiles to the show with his between song jokes and anecdotes. The set list ranged across their discography, but of course included several hits from the epic Grave Dancers Union. I've seen Soul Asylum both plugged in and acoustic - very different experiences, but equally worthwhile. Worth every penny, and then some.

    Acoustic Soul Asylum

by Fletch LaRue on 8/20/19MGM Northfield Park - Neon Room (formerly Club Velvet) - Northfield

Awesome venue. Add it to your bucket list. Great evening of listening to 90’s music performed acoustically. Dave & Ryan did a great job entertaining the crowd.

    Soul Asylum was awesome

by Brian13218 on 7/26/17Bergen Performing Arts Center - Englewood

I've seen a few 90's bands that still tour and although they sound good they can sometimes act tired and boring on stage. Soul Asylum was unreal. They put on a show as if it was their first gig ever. The band rocked and looked like they were having the time of their life on stage. Great band, Dave Pirner and co. Killed it!!

by toritoooooooooooooo on 8/1/16The Yard at TopGolf Las Vegas - Las Vegas

This was an absolute mess from the LACK of parking to the LACK of knowledge about a concert even being held there that night. Never again will I return to TOP GOLF for ANYONE!

    Great double-bill

by RudeGirlAndFriends on 6/27/16The Wellmont Theater - Montclair

First, we always enjoy a show at the Wellmont -- a great venue, though the sound seemed to be a bit distorted in the upper level (loge seats, where we sat for this show). * We attended this show with another couple (the Soul Asylum fans to our Beat fandom) and were all wondering about the sequence / duration of the bands' sets beforehand. * The English Beat started the show (very promptly to show time) and played a full set -- for longer than we had expected -- and covering the usual classics as well as a few from the new album. Dave and Matt M (sax) always rock, and Sasha (toaster) was a bundle of energy. * Soul Asylum followed and launched right into some of their big hits. Good energy from whole band but it was WAY too loud overall ... I had a headache about 20 minutes in, and there were people all around us with fingers stuck in their ears (not kidding). Don't know if this was venue-related, the band's sound guy, amp settings, whatever ... this ended up detracting from an otherwise enjoyable show.
