About

A major punk band for over two decades, Social Distortion came out of Los Angeles's active hardcore scene of the late '70s and early '80s. Their first album, Mommy's Little Monster, appeared in 1983 and featured the song "Another State of Mind," which aired as one of a few punk videos on mid-'80s MTV. Since then, Social Distortion have further developed their mix of punk and rockabilly with such songs as "Ball and Chain," "Bad Luck" and "Reach for the Sky." To this day, Social Distortion remain one of punk's most exciting and vital bands. Over the course of their career, Social Distortion have brought many venues to capacity, like Observatory North Park and the Mission Ballroom.

Social Distortion Delivers Another Great Show

    by Kl0kcykl on 7/20/09Showbox SoDo - Seattle

I have seen Social D both at the Showbox Downtown and twice at the the Showbox SODO (once under the venue's former name). They played a good mix of the older material as well as newer stuff, changing things just a bit from the records (in some cases) to make the live experience unique and interesting. On stage were a few newer faces in the line-up - a different drummer and bass player. They played well, but there was one point in Ball and Chain when the drummer kept on playing when the recorded version of the song would have had him no-play. Not sure if that was a change up for the live show or not. Either way, they sounded good. The crowd was, for the most part, cool and having a good time like you would expect at a Social D show. The only downer was that it was a hot day in Seattle - close to 90 - and the venue is basically a warehouse which turned into an oven between the sun heating it all day and all of the people inside. There was no AC or even fans to move the air around so it got a little stuffy in there.

    SocialD was great

by bikerdave on 7/20/09Showbox SoDo - Seattle

Great show! Perfect mix of songs spanning the past 30 years, including 3 new songs which where incredible. While Charlie will be missed on drums, Atom brings a lot of energy and perfect rhythm, reminiscent of Chuck Biscuits. Hopefully a new album is in the mix.

    Never disappointed

by DSeattle on 7/19/09Showbox SoDo - Seattle

I have seen Social D and Mike Ness quite a few times over the past 20 years. I'm from LA and he played a lot of shows on the OC when I was in college. I can't ever remember seeing Social D or Mike Ness solo and being disappointed. His energy and amazing voice, coupled with a badass rocking band makes me feel energized every single time I go. I would never miss a chance to see Social D. I thought the showbox event staff did an amazing job allowing the pit and crowd surfing get just to a point where it felt like a punk show, but people who weren't in the pit didn't get a kick to the head. The SODO space has great sound and is a great small/large venue. D D

    Social D was bad ass!!

by pppppppp on 7/18/09Showbox SoDo - Seattle

The bands that played prior to Social D were actually good, which a lot of times does not happen. The all girl punk rock band kicked ass. Social D put on an amazing show. They had tons of energy & the crowd really got into them, plus Mike Ness is freakin hot!!! I will see them again for sure.

    A Social Gathering To Remember

by TrainWreckJohnny on 7/18/09Showbox SoDo - Seattle

Thirty years on, Mike Ness is still fronting what is one of rock and roll's most vital and compelling bands. Tight, driving and muscular playing, impassioned and emotionally raw lyrics and a true sense of belonging to a cause bigger than oneself make for an electric performance that is felt from both sides of the footlights. Ness, the only remaining original member of the band has recruited his new players with an eye for what makes Social Distortion work; intense focus, energy and musicianship. While the players around him are "new," the sound remains true to the earliest days of the band, and it is easy to fall back in time, to the chaotic early days of the SoCal punk scene, and feel as energized by the opening chords of "Story Of My Life" or "Mommy's Little Monster" as you did the first few times you heard them. It is an event every time they play, made more special by the realization that you've seen them again hit heights of rock and roll song- and stage-craft that many bands never achieve one time, much less repeatedly over a thirty year career. You owe it to yourself to see Social Distortion live, as there is no other band working that does what they do, as well or as uncompromisingly.

The show was kick ass!! They really need to play more then 1 night up here though!! A lot of people missed this show due to it being only one night thus it was super packed :/ The fanatics will go 2 nights lol but it'll open it up for all the people that didn't buy tickets for the first night. Awesome show with 2 openers. SD played a great set. The only complaint was the SODO needs ceiling fans! Lots of room, great stage but super hot in there!
