So You Think You Can Dance Live! on Tour

As the name implies, the ‘So You Think You Can Dance' Live! tour is an extension of the long-running Fox TV series. Each year, top contestants from the show's most recent season go on the road and perform in front of live audiences. At these gigs, ‘SYTYCD' fans can expect the usual mix of inventive, high-quality choreography and solo and group spotlights. The format of the tour allows dancers to stretch out physically and emotionally, and to show off their unique personalities, which makes the night a resonant one. For the 2018 tour, the Top 10 finalists from Season 15 — including winner Hannahlei Cabanilla, a contemporary dance enthusiast from Orange County, California, and season runner-up Jensen Arnold — are hitting the road to show off their best moves, under the choreographic guidance of the Emmy-winning Mandy Moore.

About So You Think You Can Dance Live! Tour

Just as ‘American Idol' and ‘The Voice' have helped aspiring musicians launch a career, the judged competition ‘So You Think You Can Dance' has done the same for dancers. Contestants from the show, which premiered in 2005, have gone on to become professional actors and actresses, choreographers, and backup dancers for pop stars. ‘SYTYCD' itself has also become known for its innovative dance routines to popular music, and is a perennial Primetime Emmy winner, particularly in the Outstanding Choreography category.

The show's sterling track record is a testament to the stunning pool of talent on display during each season. ‘SYTYCD' doubles as a spotlight showcase for promising dancers specializing in various styles (hip-hop, jazz, contemporary), who then show off their best moves via group, pair, and individual dance performances. Each week, judges whittle down the field of competitors, before crowning one person the winner. After the season ends, the ‘So You Think You Can Dance' Live! tour gives top contestants a chance to strut their stuff in real life, up close and personal in front of the show's many, many fans.

  • Fantastic

Non-stop entertainment. The dancers have amazing stamina to keep such a dynamic show going for two hours. More routines were performed than I expected; twice as many as I saw on the TV show. However, I do think that Benjamin should have won the contest. He was the best performer on the stage.

  • My niece and I truly enjoyed ourselves.

I used this moment as an inspiring tool for my niece who is an inspiring dancer. I can't wait to see her on that stage.

Had tickets in the 2nd row. It was amazing as usual. I go every year with my daughter, sister and mom. I love watching these talented dancers!

  • Wish I could dance

The event was amazing. So many great dances from the season, with new stuff thrown in the mix. This is only me second year attending the live shows and they have both been outstanding. I can’t wait to go again next year.

  • Great Dancing!

by Lynsey on 10/29/19Tilles Center Concert Hall - BrookvilleRating: 4 out of 5

The dancing was fabulous; the venue was not (or I would have given the show 5 stars). I loved how dancers arrived on stage looking like they were dancing in the end of the act preceding them before beginning a new dance. Hosts Cyrus and Lauren were delightful—especially Cyrus. I loved his personality and humor. The show incorporates new dances choreographed for the show, as many season 16 favorites. Two things could be improved: 1. Turn down the bass. It was so loud, it made my chest vibrate even with ear plugs. This was worst during the hip hop numbers. 2. The Tilles Center at LIU-Post on Long Island, New York has some type of equipment or lighting bar raised above the front of the stage between 9” and 12” which instructed the view of the dancers’ feet if you were closer to the front of the audience. Seats further back were elevated and may not have had obstructed views. If the venue you attend does not have any visual obstruction, the show will be even better. Despite the visual blockage and music issue, my husband and I still loved the show. How dancers were partnered was a mix of old and new-giving variety to the show.

I couldn’t believe I was seeing them live and the seats were great. They bring dancing to a whole new level.

  • Totally Worth the Price

by Ro on 10/29/19Tilles Center Concert Hall - BrookvilleRating: 5 out of 5

The show was everything I hoped it would be. As a fan of SYTYCD since it began, I was thrilled to get to see these amazing Season 16 dancers live. The staging, costumes and choreography were all great, and the dancers looked like they were enjoying performing for us. Seeing some of my favorite routines from the TV show added to the fun.

  • Show Great, Venue - not so much.

by Tap Rocks on 10/27/19Lynn Auditorium - LynnRating: 3 out of 5

The show was outstanding. The Lynn Auditorium, however, was very cramped. We had two ladies show up late and literally crawled over people to get to their seats. If someone is sitting in the seat in front of you, you are on the same level and, therefore, cannot see. I was constantly shifting to see around heads. I finally had to tell the person in front of me that every time you lean over to talk to your friend, I cannot see. So many young ladies there to see the dancers and they were constanting complaining that they couldn't see either. Paying for close seats is not the way to go at this place. We also could not see the dancer's feet which was a bummer. If I could do it again, I would pay less and sit in the balcony.

The top 10 contestants of SYTYCD outdid themselves with talent and energetic choreography. It was a performance that kept moving from the opening number to the curtain call. So much fun!

  • My Daughter Loved It!

by R. W. on 10/27/19The Theater at MGM National Harbor - National Harbor Rating: 5 out of 5

Not much to say, if you have a son or daughter who loves to dance and watches the show, it's an amazing experience.

  • Amazing!

by JoyC on 10/26/19The Theater at MGM National Harbor - National Harbor Rating: 5 out of 5

These young dancers are breathtaking! 10 dancers + 2 Hosts, who also dance, keep you enthralled for the entire show! At the intermission, I couldn’t believe they were coming back to give us more! They are extremely gifted. Thank you for sharing your gifts with us!

  • Awesome show, venue just OK

by Jon on 10/26/19The Theater at MGM National Harbor - National Harbor Rating: 3 out of 5

I am a huge fan of the show and the finalist and their dances exceeded my expectations! Amazing. The MGM Grand, however, is not a venue I will attend again. The show started late, security was disorganized, the stage lighting often blinded the audience and the sound quality was terrible - too loud and too much base. The eatery at MGM is diverse but extremely overpriced and service was slow and not “professional”.

  • view was obstructed by stage set up

by BAM on 10/26/19The Theater at MGM National Harbor - National Harbor Rating: 3 out of 5

The speakers or lights on the edge of the stage obstructed the view of the dancers feet and it was hard to see when they did certain dances they involved laying I paid extra to get seats up close, if dances were on a platform it would have helped - Overall the show was good

  • Amazing

The show and dancer were awesome! I really enjoyed that they danced to current music! The top 10 were the best ever! The host could have been better to keep the crowd more engaged.

  • Nonstop Dancing

by Steph on 10/23/19The Grand Theater at Foxwoods Resort Casino - MashantucketRating: 5 out of 5

The show great! There was nonstop dancing of the best numbers from the season and specially choreographed ones for the tour. There was a variety of styles and costumes. The dancers had so much energy, it was a joy to watch!

  • Amazing talent again this year

by Nean on 10/21/19Rochester Auditorium Theatre - RochesterRating: 5 out of 5

Loved the venue. The dances were amazing. Loved the way they faded out when the next dance was going to start. Also liked the different genres sections. Where was Eddy? Missed seeing him.

  • Ok but will not go again

    by J. on 10/21/19Casino Rama Resort - RamaRating: 3 out of 5

Of course the dancing was great, but there was not enough variety of dance styles (unlike what you saw on tv). In addition the lights from the stage kept blasting out and blinding you at various times during the show. My seat in the mid range price had a great view and staff at the venue were very helpful. Getting out of the parking lot after the show was a nightmare. I will definitely continue to watch the tv show - it is the best!!! but will not attend the live show again.
