So You Think You Can Dance Live! on Tour

As the name implies, the ‘So You Think You Can Dance' Live! tour is an extension of the long-running Fox TV series. Each year, top contestants from the show's most recent season go on the road and perform in front of live audiences. At these gigs, ‘SYTYCD' fans can expect the usual mix of inventive, high-quality choreography and solo and group spotlights. The format of the tour allows dancers to stretch out physically and emotionally, and to show off their unique personalities, which makes the night a resonant one. For the 2018 tour, the Top 10 finalists from Season 15 — including winner Hannahlei Cabanilla, a contemporary dance enthusiast from Orange County, California, and season runner-up Jensen Arnold — are hitting the road to show off their best moves, under the choreographic guidance of the Emmy-winning Mandy Moore.

About So You Think You Can Dance Live! Tour

Just as ‘American Idol' and ‘The Voice' have helped aspiring musicians launch a career, the judged competition ‘So You Think You Can Dance' has done the same for dancers. Contestants from the show, which premiered in 2005, have gone on to become professional actors and actresses, choreographers, and backup dancers for pop stars. ‘SYTYCD' itself has also become known for its innovative dance routines to popular music, and is a perennial Primetime Emmy winner, particularly in the Outstanding Choreography category.

The show's sterling track record is a testament to the stunning pool of talent on display during each season. ‘SYTYCD' doubles as a spotlight showcase for promising dancers specializing in various styles (hip-hop, jazz, contemporary), who then show off their best moves via group, pair, and individual dance performances. Each week, judges whittle down the field of competitors, before crowning one person the winner. After the season ends, the ‘So You Think You Can Dance' Live! tour gives top contestants a chance to strut their stuff in real life, up close and personal in front of the show's many, many fans.

  • SYTYCD Season 5 Concert super fun.

    by esoteric76 on 9/25/09Prudential Center - NewarkRating: 4 out of 5

The top 10 finalists plus several alternates performed for nearly 2 1/2 hours!!! There was WAY too much filler though, although, it's great that we finally get a small sense of these kids' personalities. Great performances by the whole cast, especially Jeanette, Brandon, Kayla and Evan (my personal fave). My least favorite part were the solos, which, aside from Phillip Chbeeb, were WAY too short (considering the length of the show, can't they dance by themselves for more than 30 seconds?) But, nitpicking aside, the show was a lot of fun, and I totally got my money's worth. This was my 3rd SYTYCD concert, and I'm sure it won't be my last!

The SYTYCD Live Tour show was the most incredible demonstration of energy and talent I have ever seen! This TOP TEN was especially talented this season! It was so great to get to see and enjoy the BEST dances of the fifth season again! You can see how much they truly LOVE what they do! I know they'll go on and do even greater things! So very glad I got a chance to see their live show!

  • I don't think they can dance..they can!!!

    by Dusty01 on 9/25/09Prudential Center - NewarkRating: 4 out of 5

The dancers, the performances were awesome. One thing i would recommend was NOT sitting in the floor seating section. It was near impossible to see the stage, so we were looking at the TV screens. We went to see the performers NOT the TV's. We ended up moving to lower section seats after intermission and the show was that much better. All in all I would recommend this show to anyone who loves the art of dance.

This is the second time we have seen the tour and this was much better than the first. The kids seem to be very enthusiastic and enjoyed what they were doing. We went to Manchester,NH to see it and the whole atmosphere was full of excitement. Our seats were in the upper section but we had a straight on view and were able to see it all. I would definately go see it again.

The show last night was AWESOME!!! It pretty much met my expectations, although I can never get enough of the Group Dances. Needless to say - Philip ROCKED the house.

I went to see the So You Think You Can Dance season 5 tour at Prudential Center last night and all I can say is you get a lot for your money. I brought my 14 y.o. granddaughter with me, she's a Broadway dancer and she absolutely loved it. We are big fans of the show.....and were so pleased that we got to see so many of the routines in person. We do wish that Mia Michaels piece for the girls where they took off pieces of their costumes had been included but that was the only thing we missed! A great show!

by NanR on 9/25/09Prudential Center - NewarkRating: 5 out of 5

Wonderful! What a wonderful Show! Great to see all of the dancers, seeing our favorite dances, the little skits in between dances - who knew Kupono was so funny! Or that Russian Folk Dancing would cause the crowd to roar with laughter and then delight! Seeing your favorites in individual performances too! What else can I say - but just Wonderful!

  • So You Think You Can Dance Tour 2009--Amazing!!

by steakandmeggs on 9/25/09Prudential Center - NewarkRating: 5 out of 5

I had such an amazing time at the So You Think You Can Dance Live Tour. It was so great to see all of the dancers I had fallen in love with over season 5 live in front of me! I loved seeing some of my favorite routines, too! Janette and Brandon's Disco, Jeanine and Jason's Travis Wall Contemporary, Kayla and Kipono in Mia's Gravity Contemporary, Melissa and Ade's Romeo and Juliet Pas de Deux and Tyce's Contemporary piece for them--so impacting live. I was so happy they included Janette and Brandon's Wade Robson piece, The Butt Dance, Jai Ho, Battlefield, Brand New Day, Hush Hush, Nappy-Tabs' group # with the water, Kayla with both Jason and Brandon in Broadway routines, and both trios. Philip's solo was a standout. I was wishing I could see Janette and Brandon's show-stopping (was it a tango? They were in red and black that episode)--that would have made it all of my favorites. My only problem was that the solos were too short! Couldn't they extend them for the show-I wanted more!! I couldn't believe the amount of talent on that stage. Spectacular. It was a great night. Go see the tour!!

Dancers were amazing and entertaining. Music was too loud, fuzzy and the screens were blurry and hard to watch.

  • So You Think You Can Dance Tour

by singerdancer on 9/25/09Prudential Center - NewarkRating: 5 out of 5

The show was great as it always is (I've seen every tour). Unfortunately, I saw very little of it since I had floor seats with big heads in front of me. Used the jumbotrons for most of the action. I intend to keep going to these shows but next time will try for a seat in the stands so I can see. All the dancers had their solos, but the most exciting one was Phillip who just missed the top 10 but, thank heavens, was included in the show. He got the first standing ovation and several followed after that. Nobody can do what he does. He also provided the comic releif along with the winner, Jeanine. These kids have talent not only with their dancing abilities. If you don't watch the show, you are so missing out!

  • do you love sytycd?

I did not enjoy all the clips of the tv show-we have all seen it -prob more than once and i hated the voice overs.I did not like the the placement of the stage. The Russian Dance plot was very cute. The DANCERS were great. I HATED the Pru.center in Newark and will never go see anything there again. the solos were too short.

I went with my 13 year old daughter to keep her happy. It turned into a memorable event. The kids on stage repeated their best performances of the T.V. season. They emceed themselves and all showed to have personality and a comfort speaking on the stage. The dancing was excellent infused with humor and warmth.
