About

Smokey Robinson isn't just the former frontman of the Miracles, or the man behind several dozen R&B classics, or one of the key figures in the initial Motown movement. He isn’t just a National Medal of Arts award winner and an inductee in both the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and the Songwriter's Hall of Fame. Robinson is additionally a fantastic live musician and still a great performer, with an energy and enthusiasm that is incredible given his nearly six decades of experience in the music industry. These days, his concerts are celebratory affairs, with multiple generations of fans coming together to enjoy one of the true legends of American R&B. In epic performances that often last over two hours, Robinson sings hits from his entire career, dating back to early Miracles hits like “I Second That Emotion,” right through to newer tracks like "Don't Know Why" and "Love Bath," off his most recent album, 2009’s appropriately titled Time Flies When You're Having Fun.

From humble beginnings growing up poor in the north end of Detroit, Robinson first brought the Miracles together in 1955, at the age of just 15. Five years later, the group signed to Motown Records, and its first hit single, "Shop Around," became the young label’s first million-selling record. Another 25 hits followed for the band, including "Mickey's Monkey," "I Second That Emotion," "Baby Baby Don't Cry," and the No. 1 hit "Tears of a Clown." Robinson, then vice-president of Motown, started recording on his own, leading to hits like "A Quiet Storm," "Cruisin'," and "Just to See Her." His 2009 album Time Flies When You're Having Fun hit No. 10 on the R&B charts, and tickets continue to sell out for his concert tours, as fans await the opportunity to see this living legend.

    I love Smokey

by GinaMarie on 7/13/09Star Of The Desert Arena at Primm Valley Resorts - Primm

I took my mom to see Smokey at the Primm. Her and my dad saw him at the Whiskey in West Hollywood in the 60's. Then a couple years ago they went to see him for their 40th anniversary. My mom loves him. I have always enjoyed his music through my mom & dad but now I am a true fan. I was blown away by his performance his voice is amazing. He tells stories of MOTOWN and songs that he has written or co-written and really makes you feel like you are a part of his life for just a moment. I heard a song I hadnt heard before called I Love Your Face and was in tears as he sang it. And can you say SEXY this man is the epitome of the word. I will go again and next time pay a little more for the seats in the front!!

    An Unforgettable Night to Remember

by Motherofthree on 7/13/09Star Of The Desert Arena at Primm Valley Resorts - Primm

When I was 13 Smokey Robinson kissed me on my cheek at Hitsville USA. He was everything I remembered and more. He sang the songs I remember from our younger years and some more sutle songs to reminise to. He still has the moves. I had a wonderful enjoyable evening.

    Smokie was great!

by phil413 on 7/13/09Star Of The Desert Arena at Primm Valley Resorts - Primm

When he first started, he sounded a little weak and I thought - "Oh my I shouldn't have waited so long to see Smokie - he's over the hill!". But it wasn't long until he warmed up and gave us our money's worth. He is a consummate entertainer and I would definitely recommend seeing him if you ever have the chance. He sang every one of his classics and a lot of familiar songs that I didn't even realize he had written. He's a legend!

I am a "baby boomer", and have followed Smokey from the days of the Miracles. It was such a treat and pleasure to see him perform and bring back wonderful memories. I could not sit still . He is a true showman, and his voice was awesome. As I now live in Las Vegas, whenever he is giving a show I'll be there.

    Smoking Smokey Robinson

by Carsen on 7/13/09The MGM Grand at Foxwoods - Mashantucket

What a fantastic concert! Seeing Smokey Robinson perform was a dream come true. I bought the tickets as a birthday present for my husband and we both thought it was one of the best concerts we've ever seen! I was amazed at how warm and friendly he was to the crowd. And he was funny too. He kept us laughing and thoroughly entertained for over 2 hours. His voice was still amazing and we thoroughly enjoyed the entire experience.

    Smokey is a Must SEE

by ImmaDiva on 7/12/09The MGM Grand at Foxwoods - Mashantucket

I am only 26 years old so I am proof that Smokey is so amazing that he can appeal to any age group. Wow, his voice is still absolutely incredible and he dances better than I do at 69! He took time out to talk to people in the audience, let people walk up to the stage, involved the audience, etc.. Sang all his songs and then some... he was absolutely hilarious too... this show was so entertaining in so many ways. I want to go again!

    STILL IN LOVE!!!

by Enjoyable on 7/12/09Star Of The Desert Arena at Primm Valley Resorts - Primm

It was over 40 years ago when I met Smokey in person and I fell in love with him. I had never had the pleasure of attending one of his concerts. The concert was like a dream come true as he sang all of his fabulous songs both past and present. I was mesmerized! My sister and I enjoyed him so much we're waiting anxiously for his next concert. I would highly reccommend any who missed it to look for his next attendance here in Las Vegas. I'm 56 years young and still in love with Smokey.

I loved the concert. Smokey Robinson has one of the best concerts and he still sounds the same as 30 years ago. All the women were going wild! We also went and saw him for the second time at the San Diego County Fair and that was also great. He is the King of Motown.

    Wonderful (but windy) evening!

by Bootsy on 7/11/09Del Mar Fairgrounds - Del Mar

July 4 in the USA! The house was packed to the rafters!! We had reserved seats on the terrace level - PERFECT! The evening started with a small "hometown heros" parade, followed by the Navy Band who performed a vast variety of songs. We were treated to at least 15 minutes of fireworks accompanied by various songs. Smokey Robinson came on stage as scheduled and played for about 1.5 hours. He played his more popular songs, no encore (unfortunately). The evening was great just windy and cold. Who would have thought San Diego on July 4 would require a heavy jacket!
