Slipknot in Concert
Theatrical nu-metal act Slipknot approaches live concerts in a different fashion than most touring acts. Rather than being acknowledged by name, each member of the nine-piece act is referred to by a number and each dons an industrial jumpsuit and his own unique mask. The concept serves dual purposes: to entertain fans and keep the musicians focused on performing.
Since their 1995 debut, the Iowa-based heavy metal outfit has had an easy time selling albums and tickets, with their 1999 eponymous debut making it onto The Billboard 200 and earning double-platinum status. Three full-length releases have followed, with a 2014 collection rumored to be in the works.
Slipknot, a regular on the Ozzfest tour circuit along with their own headlining runs, earned a Grammy Award for Best Metal Performance in 2006 for the single "Before I Forget" from 2004's "Vol. 3 (The Subliminal Verses)." The band worked with iconic producer Rick Rubin on the collection, which marks the group's only profanity-free effort.

I have seen them twice now and will see them every chance I get from now on! Awesome show! It is a must to see them live!
I have seen Slipknot 5 times since a year ago July at the Mayhem fest. I always come away from their shows revived and exhausted. This show was no exemption. They came out hard and fast and never gave in. The crowd was receptive and no one left disappointed. Was I disappoined? Never! Every time I see Slipknot, I become a bit melancholy when the show ends. This time more so, as I will probably not see them perform for a few years to come. Their performances are always hard and raw. I can not think of any other band that I have seen in all my years that puts what they do into a performance. You know it comes from the heart. I can never explain what Slipknot does for me. They just do. One key, and I am taken to another time and place and for those brief moments when I have the privilage and pleasure to enjoy their soothing sounds, I am the luckiest woman in the world.
Slipknot, as always, put on an excellent show. They always put on a great show, get in to the music and respond to the crowd's energy. The US Cellular Center was a good place for the show to take place. It was clean, plenty of restrooms and concession stands to avoid long lines.
This was my 9th slipknot show and by far the worst. My biggest complaint was the sound. Distortion was the norm here. It was almost as if there was too much sound to fit into the Us Cellular Center. The opening acts were not as bad, and I've seen Slipknot twice before at this same venue and the sound was not this bad - but this was horrible. It was to the point that it would almost take me 10 seconds to even determine what song was being played.
Ok t ostart off im not the biggest Slipknot fan but i do have to say they put on the one of the best concerts i have ever been to. i do have to say this show whas the best show i have been to in my life the venue in mankato was perfect and the lineup for this show was unstoppable all in all i would recommend this to a friend and i would love to see them again
I was hesitant about seeing Slipknot, but I will have to say it was the best concert I have ever seen!! I go to concerts ALL the time and they were unreal!! It was well worth the drive (about 2 1/2 hours 1 way). We had excellent seats and I cannot wait to see them again!! I am 41 and my husband is 49 and we had a great time!! Slipknot was just totally awesome!! I recommend anyone and everyone to see them if they get the opportunity!!! I hope they come around this area soon because I will go and see them again and again!! UNREAL is the best way to describe the concert!! Excellent!!
My wife and I drove 600 miles from Grand Forks ND to see them (for the 7th time) and they were unforgettable as always! They sound tighter every time and as always were fan oriented. Corey appeared inside the barrier by the mixing boards and sang Dead Memories so those of us who aren't up front could be close for at least one song. We were right there and it was very cool! Also Shawn came out into the crowd and I got a pat on the shoulder which was great. Chris made a quick trip by us also, so 1/3 of the band was out amongst the crowd which was excellent. The only bad thing is they took The Heretic Anthem out of the playlist, and they don't do Wherein Lies Continue live. That's just personal preference though, the show as always was incredible!! I have logged over 4000 miles to see these guys all over including Ozzfest '99 in Somerset Wisconsin, and it has been by far worth it every time. They are FINALLY coming back to Fargo September 5th and it will be great as always. I hope they break out the pyrotechnics one of these times. This is the best live show I have ever seen by far and I highly recommend that anyone into heavy music see them at least once!
This was my first rock concert of this caliber and it freaking rocked!!! Slipknot was so awesome! My favorite part was when Corey Taylor came down to the middle of the floor and sang Dead Memories. He was right beside me and I was able to get a couple of great pics from my phone. Would definitely go see them again!!!
Having seen Slipknot for the fourth time I had an idea what to expect, A high energy, Crowd pleasing show filled with their classics-Before I forget, Duality, and my all time favorite-Spit it Out, along with tracks from their new album 'All Hope Is Gone" featuring their first hit "Psychosocial". Aside from the music the Slipknot performance we're used to didn't disappoint, Each drummer on the side of the stage raised up and down, along with switching back and forth between their regular "keg" drum to marching band drums, most members used the whole stage playing the (which part of the crowd is louder) game. As usual, Corey Taylor, The lead singer showed his loyalty to Iowa by proclaiming them as the best fans anywhere, All in all it was a great show that showed no signs of slowing down, And I can't wait until they return.
Being from Iowa, we don't get a lot of "home town bands" as big as slipknot coming through. I would characterize myself as a fan of the band but not a zealot. I must say, in al honesty, this is one of the better shows i ever seen. The front man (corey i think his name is.) Is masterful showman and orchestrated things in a very cool way. There is a VERY obvious respect for the fans from this band and the fans give it back in a big way. The fact that this show was in their home state helped a ton, i'm sure, but i can't imagine that these guys don't give this type of show no matter where they are. i will definitely see these guys again. I went with a friend who was pretty unfamiliar with the band and he ended us saying it was one of the better shows he's ever seen. Even if you are not a fan of the genre, you will be blown away by the spectacle around you.
In the old days, a little playful exposure from the audience was part of the concert experience. How times have changed. Opening act, Devil Driver, was a blur of incoherent noise. The singer could make an evil-sounding roar, which was pretty neat, but not anything any four-year-old couldn't accomplish equally. The second act, All That Remains, was a musical improvement, but held to the genre with that stupid screaming they think they have to do. A female bassist was a nice change of pace. At their young age, Slipknot has racked up a lot of experience as performers. This was evident as they did their job, and did it well. Bassist didn't have his heart in it and looked rather uninspired (maybe bored). Suprised to see "Clown" performing after losing his mother within the week (unless there was a stand-in behind the mask). Very aggresive show with plenty of interaction with the audience. Musically, four members could disappear without much notice. In performance, the upfront drummers are very entertaining and I'd love to have their job. Although heavily defended in magazine interviews, the two guys flanking Joey (drummer) could easily be replaced with an off-stage keyboardist. The stage was double the depth of a typical show at this venue, so the "packed house" was largely due to lack of floor space. The set decor was suiting and very creative though. Although a lot of negative input here, I am a bitter 40-year-old dad and not a die-hard fan of the genre, so that taints my review. My teenage son rather enjoyed it though. This is my second time seeing them at this venue, so I obviously don't dislike them. For someone who is a fan of this type of music, I can say that Slipknot is in the top 5% of their niche market and far superior to their hardcore peers (Slayer, Hatebreed, etc.).
awesome, just awesome! This was the second time me and my daughter saw these guys, they rock!
I have seen multiple heavy metal bands and loved all of them, but there is nothing even close to SLIPKNOT!!! My 9 year old son is slipknots biggest fan he has collected all their masks he sings the songs perfect. And I was criticized for bringing him to see slipknot twice. It's just music and my boy will never forget those moments we shared watching our favorite band perform. Thank you
2nd time seeing them and we were so close it was GREAT!! Totally rocked!!
good show, first time seeing slipknot, won't be the last i hope
Devil driver was an amazing opening band for them that set the tempo for the entire concert. They had their anti-hardcore dancing pit. All that remains were amazing as well. Slipknot was mind-blowing! Everything about that performance was amazing. Most defiantly worth every penny and every minute.
Smaller venue with a fantastic show.....I'd do it over and over and over again...
The show as a whole was great. All 3 bands were excellent. The only thing i didn't like was that Devil Driver played first. All That Remains should have been first and DevilDriver should have been second.
Devil driver started out the evening, not their best work, but they still lit up the house. All that remains came on after a brief intermission and the masses went nuts! I was impressed that their bassist was a chick, she can wail right along side their lead guitarist, who looks like a charles manson/grizzly adams look alike. One more intermission and its time for the main event. Slipknot came out and the alltell center was like an insane asylum. During one of their songs, the lead singer came out, along with one of the percussionists, and walked amongst the masses-he came within 3 feet of myself, getting my adrenaline pumping! Shortly after that, the lead guitarist for All that remains came out to hang with the little people, and I had the privilage to shake his hand. Slipknot finished out their set, and then came back for an encore. It was truly a memorable night.
Amazing- For All Hope is Gone this year- saw Slipknot in Minneapolis,The Forum in Los Angeles and this concert in Mankato. This one was the best of the three. All that Remains was a FAR better opener than the other ones that were opening at Excel and the Forum (especially Coheed which sucked live IMO) . AT Remains was far better suited to Slipknot's music and style. The opening bands matter to me. I really liked Slipknot in the smaller venue, they seemed more relaxed- the crowd was insane- it was wild. There's a huge difference in the band's attitude when they play in the midwest anyways (I think) comparing the Forum to the MN concerts is no comparison. Slipknot is very, very tight band- they have it together no matter what anyone thinks- so they are worth seeing anywhere. But the midwest seems to bring out a special side and is very gratifying to a hard core fan like myself. It would be nice to hear a different set list when you go to multiple shows on a tour- but again, Slipknot is tight and they are pros. So - that's what you give up. I can't think of anyone better to go see live- anyone. !!!!!!!!
