About

Originating in Huntington Park, CA in 1981 as a cover band in the head-banging scene, Slayer has become one of the most important metal bands in rock history, commonly referred to in the Big 4 alongside Anthrax, Megadeath and Metallica. Their first two albums, 1983’s Show No Mercy and 1985’s Hell Awaits, were released on Metal Blade Records, before they signed to Rick Rubin’s Def Jam label in 1986. There they released their third album Reign in Blood, which caught mainstream attention and has proved to be a genre-defining thrash metal album, influencing countless bands as well as the subgenres of death metal and black metal. Tom Araya’s shouted vocals and graphic lyrics are thought-provoking and articulate, while their tight musical structures combining hardcore rock’s rhythms and speed metal’s frenzied pace generate fast and aggressive songs, intensified through the use of double bass drumming, and unconventional but engaging guitar riffs. This all-out rock offensive has been wowing ticket holders for over three decades, selling out concerts across the globe. Over the years, Slayer has been nominated for five Grammy awards, most recently 2009’s World Painted Blood, and continues to tour while working on new material.

    SLAYER!

by zantaff124 on 7/20/09Fiddler's Green Amphitheatre - Englewood

the fest was insane, it was my first concert and i thought it was great. top bands there i would have to say were behemoth, cannibal corpse, killswitch, all that remains, and ofcourse SLAYER. infact, slayer was so good i don't even think epic is an adequate term to describe how awesome they were.i am DEFINATELY going back next year.

    Mayhem Fest

by Hanning on 7/20/09Fiddler's Green Amphitheatre - Englewood

This show was amazing!!! The band selection is great, they all perform well live. Most of the bands do signings and give free stuff away. The merch price is average. expect about $25 a shirt. CD's are about $12. Free Rockstar drinks though. All in all, it is amazing. Well worth the price

    slayer was awesome

by babyhuey01 on 7/20/09Fiddler's Green Amphitheatre - Englewood

I"m from los angles and most concert crowds are really wild and of the hook there. But people in colorado are much more calm. I expected big mosh pits and lots of violence. There was'nt even a pit for slayer, which really suprised me. I've seen slayer a dozen times and it was always off the hook? I guess people in colorado just dont understand what this type of music represents. There was a small pit for canibal corpse but they had to beg the crowd to mosh it up. Head banging is cool, but metal is supposed to cause manic pandemonia and chaos. There should have been a all out unstopable RIOT!

    Mayhem Fest Killed!

by thabadbucfan on 7/20/09Fiddler's Green Amphitheatre - Englewood

Even Though Slayer wasn't the best I ever seen of them, Manson tore it up. Killswitch and Bullets were also very good. Slayer was very good as usual just not at there best. There were lots of other good acts during the day which made the the overall show a great one.

    Mayhem Festival Rocks!

by Denverbuckeye on 7/20/09Fiddler's Green Amphitheatre - Englewood

Slayer and Killswitch Engage were unbelievable. Trivium and Behemoth were great as well. Other than a whole lot of dust and some sod-throwing, the show rocked.

    All That REMAINS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

by Conch on 7/20/09Fiddler's Green Amphitheatre - Englewood

The set-up was great. The show flowed really well with minimal downtime. All That Remains, as always, put on the best show and remains the most underrated metal band in North America. As always, Slayer destroys, Manson amazes. Biggest downside? The amount of dirt kicked up by the pit during the first half of the show was rough. It's tough to scream along, dance, and breathe hard when all you can breathe is a cloud of dust. When this show comes back (it damn well better!!!), everyone who can should go, and don't forget the sunscreen. Biggest upside? The meet and greets were AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Seriously, for those of you who weren't there, all but the four headliners (Bullet, Killswitch, Slayer, Manson) did meet and greets/signings for the fans. THANK YOU!!!

    Slayer and Manson

by BondC on 7/20/09Fiddler's Green Amphitheatre - Englewood

The side stage shows were loud and the sound was off, however the main stage (once opened up) was incredible. I could have forgone Bullet for My Valentine and Killswitch Engage to see more of the headliners, Slayer and Marilyn Manson. Overall it was a rockin' show. The crowd was full of energy (thank you RockStar Energy Drinks) and completely rocked out during the main acts.

Mayhem much better then last year

by blownchevelle on 7/20/09Fiddler's Green Amphitheatre - Englewood

The Mayhem festival was much better then last year they way they set up the stages, last year you would have to chose to miss bands to see others this year no bands over lapped each other. It made it a much better experience.

Slayer showed why they are still a Headliner

by mdcoble34 on 7/20/09Fiddler's Green Amphitheatre - Englewood

Metal Mayhem was awesome. A chance to see bands you normally wouldn't get to see. Jagermeister and Hot Topic stages were right next to each other so no running back and forth to see the next band. Trivium, All That Remains, and Behemoth rocked! The bands on the main stage kicked ass. They all sounded awesome. Slayer definately was the headliner even though Marilyn Manson came on last. Majority of the fans left after Slayer. I had never been to Fiddler's Green before and I didn't have good seats...I was in the lower section, but all the way at the end of the row. I won't make that mistake again, but it is a small enough venue where no seat is a horrible seat.

    Amazing

by zoolady02 on 7/20/09Fiddler's Green Amphitheatre - Englewood

Bullet and Manson were Amazing. Drink and food prices were way too high. But the Concert was out of this world. Slayer could have stopped before they started. But then again I wasn't there to see them.

Slayer was great.. not keen on Manson

by Denverkid on 7/20/09Fiddler's Green Amphitheatre - Englewood

Trivium and All That Remains were on the smaller Jägermeister stage, which was kind of a let down -- but they sounded great! Killswitch was very, very good. Slayer was good, as always. I was very disappointed with Marilyn Manson. He was overweight and looked ... tired.

    Mayhem Festival Freakin' Rocked!! :)

by Cheesepoof on 7/20/09Fiddler's Green Amphitheatre - Englewood

The concert started about 2:00 p.m. and lasted til 11 p.m. WOW!! What an experience! The excitement began on the left of Fiddler's Green where there was 2 stages. There were plenty of things to do including listening to the bands, moshing, walking around, meeting other people, buying souveniors, meeting the band, and buying cheap tickets to other concerts! Around 5, the main entry to Fiddler's opened where the main stage resided. There were several food and drink establishments to choose from while waiting for the next band. What a great lineup for a good price-The Black Dahlia Murder, God Forbid, Trivium, Bullet For My Valentine, Killswitch Engage, Slayer, Marilyn Manson, & more!

    rockstar

by Amdusias on 7/20/09Fiddler's Green Amphitheatre - Englewood

Overall the show was awesome, most of the bands rocked out. I like how they kept the show going by the use of two stages seperate from the main stage so that there was always a band playing from one stage to the other without any set up time because when one stage was rockin the other stage was preping for the next act. The only thing that I did not like was the fact that it was on dirt and also the fact that it was on flat land. Unless you were super tall or pushed your way to the front a person could not see a thing and if you did push your way through to get closer a person had to deal with the dust being kicked up from the mosh pit and I have asthma and I am still coughing up crud today. Just a suggestion but maybe for future shows it should be dug out into an incline so that everyone could see better and maybe some astro turf or something to keep the dust level down. The other complaint that I have is a four dollar water that was hot I probably wouldn't have minded if it was cold and thanks to Rockstar energy drink for providing free cold rockstars otherwise I would have been drinking hot water all day. Don't get me wrong I loved the show and most of the bands but it came with a pretty hefty price.

    Manson is awesome.

by tinyjen on 7/20/09Fiddler's Green Amphitheatre - Englewood

I think it would have been better if Manson could have had more than an hour to do his thing, :(.
