SLASH featuring Myles Kennedy & the Conspirators on Tour
“I think it’s time to set this world on fire/I think it’s time to push it to the edge/I’m so f---in’ bored so trip the wire/It may never be this good again”
--From the opening power chords of the single and title track of WORLD ON FIRE
WORLD ON FIRE is the new album from SLASH featuring Myles Kennedy & the Conspirators, and it comes on full throttle and in-your-face, a hunk of burning rock ‘n’ roll that takes no prisoners. Intensifying the band’s sound and vision, it marks the follow-up to their succesful and acclaimed 2012 debut, Apocalyptic Love, also released on SLASH’s own indie Dik Hayd International label distributed through Caroline.
“We’ve been playing together for awhile and I think it’s gotten to the point where everybody’s comfortable in our own skins,” says Rock and Roll Hall of Fame guitarist SLASH, who has amassed album sales of over 100 million copies, with seven GRAMMY nominations, a GRAMMY award and countless accolades. “It turned out to be a very easy process. We definitely had chemistry from the very first time we entered a room together. It was instantaneous magic.”
WORLD ON FIRE represents that chemistry, as SLASH, vocalist MYLES KENNEDY, bassist TODD KERNS and drummer BRENT FITZ blaze through 17 songs that run the gamut of topics, some derived from tour bus conversations between the singer and guitarist. These range from the pointed sexual politics of “Battleground,” “Dirty Girl” and “Stone Blind,” the anti-war sentiments of “Dissident” and the coming-of-age saga “Bent to Fly,” to such charged issues as elephant poaching (“Beneath the Savage Sun”), child abuse in the Catholic Church (“The Unholy”), addiction (“Wicked Stone”) and the perils faced by females of a certain age in show business (“Withered Delilah”). There’s also a song inspired by Mad Men’s Don Draper (“Shadow Life”) and a rockin’ instrumental (“Safari Inn”).
“There are lots of different stories and themes on this album,” says KENNEDY, the vocalist for Alter Bridge who first played on SLASH’s self-titled 2010 debut solo release, and became an instant fit. “When SLASH sends me a chord progression or a riff, it’s like hearing music to a film. Ultimately, I am writing the script for the composition with lyrics and melodies inspired by what he sends me musically. I do my best to keep the story congruent with the mood of the track."
Unlike Apocalyptic Love, which was essentially recorded live in the studio, WORLD ON FIRE began with jamming by SLASH, KERNS and FITZ, who sent the results to KENNEDY. Produced by Mike “Elvis” Baskette (Alter Bridge, Falling in Reverse, Incubus, Iggy Pop, Chevelle) in his Orlando-based Studio Barbarossa and at L.A.’s NRG Studios, WORLD ON FIRE finds SLASH playing all the guitars this time around.
Make no mistake about it, though. This is no solo project, but a rock ‘n’ roll band, with all four members contributing their strengths to the whole.
“I was influenced by the group ethic as a kid coming up,” admits SLASH. “I would buy live records because that was the energy I craved. As soon as I picked up a guitar in junior high school, I started a band. That’s the vibe I’m looking for, the interaction between musicians. Having a singer whom I know where he’s at, and writing with him in mind, my songwriting skills have gotten a lot better.”
Those arrangements range from the acoustic strumming and “la la la” chorus of “Battleground” and the epic build of “Bent to Fly” to the distinctive SLASH guitar riff which opens “Iris of the Storm,” the wide-screen scope of “The Unholy,” with its sounds of children in the playground, and the jungle boogie instrumental of “Safari Inn.”
“I’ve learned a great deal through the whole process,” says KENNEDY, who splits his time between The Conspirators and Alter Bridge. ““Everybody’s on the same page and we’re all very proud of what we’ve done as a band on this record. There's a great chemistry between the 4 of us that continues to evolve with each recording.”
WORLD ON FIRE comes on the heels of the success of Apocalyptic Love, which debuted at #4 on the Billboard Top 200 Albums chart and produced SLASH’s first-ever No. 1 U.S. Rock radio solo hits in “You’re a Lie” and “Standing in the Sun.” With the release of Nothing Left to Fear last year--SLASH’s initial foray into horror pictures, co-produced by his Slasher Films--he began to broaden his horizons, a development which could be heard on WORLD ON FIRE, particularly on the very cinematic set-piece, “The Unholy.”
“That comes from an entirely different side of my brain,” SLASH admits. “I never usually write like that for a band, but I thought it would be pretty cool.”
KENNEDY, who comes from a Christian Scientist and Methodist background, based the song on what he was hearing from Catholic friends. “It’s not as silent as it once was,” he says of the institutionalized child abuse he tackles in the lyrics. “It’s really sad and heartbreaking because these are people you look up to, clergymen, who betray that trust.”
The lyrics of “Shadow Life” come from Kennedy’s fascination with the TV show “Mad Men” and the duplicity of its main character Don Draper. “That character fascinates me because the dark secrets he keeps, as well as the double life he leads, ultimately make his existence more complex and difficult."
“The Dissident” is about a soldier who comes to the realization that he no longer believes in what he is fighting for, while “Withered Delilah” gets inside how the entertainment industry can chew up and spit out women when they no longer have a use for them.
“This is basically a happy record with some dark subject matter,” acknowledges SLASH. “It ends up in a positive place, but it also leaves you with the idea not to get too comfortable.”
For SLASH featuring Myles Kennedy and The Conspirators, there is no time for that, as the band will intersperse their own headlining dates by appearing with Aerosmith on the celebrated “Let Rock Rule” tour in North America this summer, a jaunt they previewed with a surprise performance at the Whisky a Go Go earlier this spring.
“I’m really excited about it,” says SLASH. “There are not really too many bands I can feel comfortable partnering up with. When I first picked up the guitar, they were a huge influence my favorite band at the time, bar none. The Rocks album was a catalyst for me to pursue what it is I do now. Guns N’ Roses toured with them in the ‘80s. They always represented a certain kind of attitude, brashness and realism in rock ‘n’ roll I still to this day subscribe to. We fit together really well.”

Words cant describe how awesome it was! I would recommend this concert to any GNR fan.
Amazing concert. Great mix of Slash's solo work as well as his work with Guns N' Roses and Velvet Revolver. Myles Kennedy is also great on vocals. One of the best concerts I have been to!
Wes very excited to see Slash. Only saw him with Velvet Revolver but have seen lotso youtube and other videos. The Orbit room is simply very cool. Will go back there for sure. So, about Slash. I decided after the 5th song that I simply could not stay for such a Choreographed and “staged” group of musicians. They showed off their hair together, they looked excited together, they ran around the stage in perfect rhythm and speed. Such excellent execution. BUT, what it also showed was the music was not the primary purpose for us all being there. It is how they looked as they worked the stage like arena rock stars. But, wait, it was not an arena, AND they aren’t rock stars. Slash certainly is. The guy next to me told me he was afraid that this is what it would be like. The good news, we went and got a beer and talked about how cool Slash is regardless of the “staged” show.
A great show with a great set list and high energy!
Opening act, Hillbilly Herald, was killer! Great energy, rocking songs, and excellent entertainers. Myles Kennedy is the perfect complement to Slash. Great mix of new Slash and old GN'R. Hard Rock Biloxi offers no bad seat in the house. Best show I have seen in a decade!!!
Great show was with my son it was his first small arena show and the band was tight great to see Slash again last saw him in 92
Truly awesome rock show. Slash, Myles, and the Conspirators tore their way through Slash's extensive back catalogue, covering every period of the guitarist's phenomenal career. Definitely recommended to anyone who loves a high-volume, high energy rock concert.
I gave him tickets for his birthday and was dragged along kicking and screaming. I love a band that is good live (Springsteen is my fav). Believe me, I was shocked when we left the venue after Slash's concert because I ended up having the most fun! Slash & Co were unbelievably good live. I'm now a fan and have been converted!!!!!!
Myles Kennedy is one terrific vocalist to channel old Guns n Roses' classics. He has amazing vocal range, pairing Slash with great chemistry, though he appears in more laid back stage style and always gives the spot light to Slash. House of Blues has amazing sound quality which blows me away. Sigh, I almost broke into tears when Myles Kennedy hit high notes on Nightrain,,, and,,, sigh, I did wet eyes at the moment Slash started the opening to Paradise City and Sweet Child O Mine. Where is Axl Rose??
I can only say Slash is about four feet tall. But plays music like he's nine feet tall.
I loved this show! I have always been a fan of Myles Kennedy with Alter Bridge and a fan of Slash! They definitely have a chemistry to produce great music together. I love all of the songs on Slash's new album. Myles easily pulled off the exceptional vocals that are best known from Gun's and Roses. It was a very memorable show! Loved every minute of it.
very good. I have to say that I was surprised at how tight Slash's band was overall and the guys can play. It was my first time to see Slash since he left GNR and I was impressed. Two thumbs up.
He can play -- no one ever said he can't. But the band, the other people in the crowd, it's all a bit too much.
It goes without saying that Slash is going to be awesome, but the big question mark coming in to the show was touring frontman Miles Kennedy. Well, he was fantastic. He held his own for the GN'R fans against Axl in renditions of Nightrain, Rocket Queen, Civil War, Paradise City, and even Sweet Child. And while I like STP, I never thought Scott Weiland was a particularly strong vocalist on the VR stuff. Miles did a very good job with those songs. When I first heard, Andrew Stockdale of Wolfmother on the Slash album debut single, By The Sword, I had hoped he would tour the album, but I think in the end Miles was a great choice. I hope Slash, Duff, and company will consider and that he would accept joining VR. I think it could only improve the band. If you get a chance to see Slash, he is touring with Ozzy, by all means get tickets. Great show! You can order it from Abbey Road Live. All shows from the tour are available immediately after the show or online CD order.
Just one word awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The show was great. When Slash played, they played several songs. More than usually seen at a concert. The encore was unforgettable. During the encore Slash broke the E string on his guitar. This didn't stop him though. He continued to play with one less string and he did it like a master. It truly was magical to watch the way he handled the guitar. It was very inspirational for me since I started playing guitar again after several years because of Slash!
This was the best concert I've ever been to. I knew it was going to be good but it surpassed all my expectations. Slash & Myles were peanut butter & jelly. Awesome. I drove to Atlanta from Nashville to see this & I was not disapointed. By the time I was old enough to attend rock concerts GnR was already dead. I may have missed-out on GnR but I believe Myles is more Axl than Axl.
I have and will drive long distances to see this man!! Solo or in a band, I don't even care which band!!! (although Velvet Revolver is my favorite) Saw Slash in August in San Francisco, he always puts on a great show, his band line up is solid, and I CAN NOT say enough about Myles!!!!!!!!!!!
i'd pay triple the amount of my original ticket price to see his show again.
This is the second time I've seen him play (last time with Velvet Revolver) and I would see him again given the chance. There are not too many musicians I feel that way about. He is monster. At one point he played an instrumental version of "Since I've Been Loving You" into "The Godfather Theme" then into "Sweet Child of Mine". He played for twenty minutes straight without stopping. Sweat was just pouring off the guy. As for the Showbow Sodo, what a great venue. This was our first time there and we thought it was fantastic building. My only reason for not giving it a 5 was the crowd. I thought we might get a little maturity level with it being over 21 but was I wrong. My wife were near the front on the left hand side and had to move out of there because of the insanity. Stage rushing, spilling drinks on people, throwing ice, it was ridiculous. 30 year olds acting like children. I don't get it.
