SLASH featuring Myles Kennedy & the Conspirators on Tour

“I think it’s time to set this world on fire/I think it’s time to push it to the edge/I’m so f---in’ bored so trip the wire/It may never be this good again”

--From the opening power chords of the single and title track of WORLD ON FIRE

WORLD ON FIRE is the new album from SLASH featuring Myles Kennedy & the Conspirators, and it comes on full throttle and in-your-face, a hunk of burning rock ‘n’ roll that takes no prisoners. Intensifying the band’s sound and vision, it marks the follow-up to their succesful and acclaimed 2012 debut, Apocalyptic Love, also released on SLASH’s own indie Dik Hayd International label distributed through Caroline.

“We’ve been playing together for awhile and I think it’s gotten to the point where everybody’s comfortable in our own skins,” says Rock and Roll Hall of Fame guitarist SLASH, who has amassed album sales of over 100 million copies, with seven GRAMMY nominations, a GRAMMY award and countless accolades. “It turned out to be a very easy process. We definitely had chemistry from the very first time we entered a room together. It was instantaneous magic.”

WORLD ON FIRE represents that chemistry, as SLASH, vocalist MYLES KENNEDY, bassist TODD KERNS and drummer BRENT FITZ blaze through 17 songs that run the gamut of topics, some derived from tour bus conversations between the singer and guitarist. These range from the pointed sexual politics of “Battleground,” “Dirty Girl” and “Stone Blind,” the anti-war sentiments of “Dissident” and the coming-of-age saga “Bent to Fly,” to such charged issues as elephant poaching (“Beneath the Savage Sun”), child abuse in the Catholic Church (“The Unholy”), addiction (“Wicked Stone”) and the perils faced by females of a certain age in show business (“Withered Delilah”). There’s also a song inspired by Mad Men’s Don Draper (“Shadow Life”) and a rockin’ instrumental (“Safari Inn”).

“There are lots of different stories and themes on this album,” says KENNEDY, the vocalist for Alter Bridge who first played on SLASH’s self-titled 2010 debut solo release, and became an instant fit. “When SLASH sends me a chord progression or a riff, it’s like hearing music to a film. Ultimately, I am writing the script for the composition with lyrics and melodies inspired by what he sends me musically. I do my best to keep the story congruent with the mood of the track."

Unlike Apocalyptic Love, which was essentially recorded live in the studio, WORLD ON FIRE began with jamming by SLASH, KERNS and FITZ, who sent the results to KENNEDY. Produced by Mike “Elvis” Baskette (Alter Bridge, Falling in Reverse, Incubus, Iggy Pop, Chevelle) in his Orlando-based Studio Barbarossa and at L.A.’s NRG Studios, WORLD ON FIRE finds SLASH playing all the guitars this time around.

Make no mistake about it, though. This is no solo project, but a rock ‘n’ roll band, with all four members contributing their strengths to the whole.

“I was influenced by the group ethic as a kid coming up,” admits SLASH. “I would buy live records because that was the energy I craved. As soon as I picked up a guitar in junior high school, I started a band. That’s the vibe I’m looking for, the interaction between musicians. Having a singer whom I know where he’s at, and writing with him in mind, my songwriting skills have gotten a lot better.”

Those arrangements range from the acoustic strumming and “la la la” chorus of “Battleground” and the epic build of “Bent to Fly” to the distinctive SLASH guitar riff which opens “Iris of the Storm,” the wide-screen scope of “The Unholy,” with its sounds of children in the playground, and the jungle boogie instrumental of “Safari Inn.”

“I’ve learned a great deal through the whole process,” says KENNEDY, who splits his time between The Conspirators and Alter Bridge. ““Everybody’s on the same page and we’re all very proud of what we’ve done as a band on this record. There's a great chemistry between the 4 of us that continues to evolve with each recording.”

WORLD ON FIRE comes on the heels of the success of Apocalyptic Love, which debuted at #4 on the Billboard Top 200 Albums chart and produced SLASH’s first-ever No. 1 U.S. Rock radio solo hits in “You’re a Lie” and “Standing in the Sun.” With the release of Nothing Left to Fear last year--SLASH’s initial foray into horror pictures, co-produced by his Slasher Films--he began to broaden his horizons, a development which could be heard on WORLD ON FIRE, particularly on the very cinematic set-piece, “The Unholy.”

“That comes from an entirely different side of my brain,” SLASH admits. “I never usually write like that for a band, but I thought it would be pretty cool.”

KENNEDY, who comes from a Christian Scientist and Methodist background, based the song on what he was hearing from Catholic friends. “It’s not as silent as it once was,” he says of the institutionalized child abuse he tackles in the lyrics. “It’s really sad and heartbreaking because these are people you look up to, clergymen, who betray that trust.”

The lyrics of “Shadow Life” come from Kennedy’s fascination with the TV show “Mad Men” and the duplicity of its main character Don Draper. “That character fascinates me because the dark secrets he keeps, as well as the double life he leads, ultimately make his existence more complex and difficult."

“The Dissident” is about a soldier who comes to the realization that he no longer believes in what he is fighting for, while “Withered Delilah” gets inside how the entertainment industry can chew up and spit out women when they no longer have a use for them.

“This is basically a happy record with some dark subject matter,” acknowledges SLASH. “It ends up in a positive place, but it also leaves you with the idea not to get too comfortable.”

For SLASH featuring Myles Kennedy and The Conspirators, there is no time for that, as the band will intersperse their own headlining dates by appearing with Aerosmith on the celebrated “Let Rock Rule” tour in North America this summer, a jaunt they previewed with a surprise performance at the Whisky a Go Go earlier this spring.

“I’m really excited about it,” says SLASH. “There are not really too many bands I can feel comfortable partnering up with. When I first picked up the guitar, they were a huge influence my favorite band at the time, bar none. The Rocks album was a catalyst for me to pursue what it is I do now. Guns N’ Roses toured with them in the ‘80s. They always represented a certain kind of attitude, brashness and realism in rock ‘n’ roll I still to this day subscribe to.  We fit together really well.”

  • A MUST SEE SHOW!

by strehlau on 8/10/12The Pageant - St LouisRating: 5 out of 5

Slash, Myles and the Conspirators was one of the best concerts I`ve ever been to. I`ve been going to concerts steadily since 1982. Slash played for 2 hours of nonstop music. Myles sounds great and can work the audience very well. Cant wait til they come back.

  • Kickass show!

by Anastasiaaa on 8/10/12The Pageant - St LouisRating: 5 out of 5

First time seeing Myles Kennedy and the Conspirators play live. Loved it! Slash was amazing, as always. Definitely the highlight of my summer. I can't wait until they come back to Saint Louis. We got way more than our money's worth. Love these guys! If you're on the fence about buying tickets, DO IT!! It is absolutely worth it. Everyone's going through some tough times right now but it's awesome to have so many people rockin out, just enjoying themselves. If you want to forget the world for a few hours, go see the Apocalyptic Love Tour. I love Slash. He caught a bunch of confetti during the encore and some of it fell out of his hand. In frustration he threw the rest of it to the side and mouthed, "Bitch!" iiii]; )' Myles is an amazing singer and performer. It was a true rock n roll gathering. Amazing. Cheers! \m/

  • Best concert I've seen in a long time!!!!

by Mlin on 8/10/12The Pageant - St LouisRating: 5 out of 5

The sound was amazing! Slash doesn't seem to age. The whole band was spot on and Myles Kennedy was unbelievable as always. We waited in back for a couple hours and they all took a minute to sign autographs. I would highly recommend checking out this show.

  • THE BEST SHOW EVER!!!!!

    by jenjen42073 on 8/10/12The Pageant - St LouisRating: 5 out of 5

This was by far the best concert I have ever been to!! The Pageant was a great venue-intimate yet large enough where the sound was amazing. Slash---fantastic!! I was in awe of him and how he was able to play non-stop for 2 hours. Myles Kennedy and The Conspirators were a perfect balance for Slash. Phenominal! I cannot wait for the next time they make a stop in Saint Louis. I took my 11 year old son-it was his first concert and he LOVED it! Slash is his favorite artist. I'm glad I was able to take him and help create long lasting memories, not to mention rocking out with him! A++++++++++

  • by TheGodfather11 on 8/8/12The Paramount - HuntingtonRating: 5 out of 5

Surviving almost three hours of driving in New York City traffic with a bad GPS and lack of good music on every radio station was a surprisingly small price to pay for three hours of solid rock n roll. Neither the venue nor the show itself was about putting on too much of a show; the concert was about appreciating the musical skills/talents of Slash, Myles, and the Conspirators. The Paramount is a great venue in a nice town, with a cool vibe. The opening band, Monster Truck, a Canadian four piece band with a strong resemblance to Jesus, set up a good atmosphere in the theater. But none of these other aspects could compare to the dimmed lights and opening chords of "Halo" as Slash, Myles, and the Conspirators got on stage. Their concert was what you'd expect: powerful guitar riffs with a lot of energy, spectacular solos, the image of the band, and an involved crowd. There were no bad songs, although there were two missing ("Apocalyptic Love" and "Mean Bone"). Overall, the concert was amazing and I would recommend it to all fans of GnR, and fans of rock n roll and not only. Sincerely, The Godfather

  • Amazing Show in Huntington

    by panhead53 on 8/7/12The Paramount - HuntingtonRating: 5 out of 5

Slash and the band were on fire at Huntington. Slash's new album is incredible and he played most of it along with Guns songs. Highly recommend.

  • Slash was outstanding

by GeorgeGumby on 8/6/12The Paramount - HuntingtonRating: 5 out of 5

This had to be one the best pure rock shows that I had ever seen. watching slash play guitar I just thought to myself that this is how it must have been to see Jimmy Page and Led Zeppelin in the early days. He is the keeper of the flame at this point as far as the Great guitar players around. Axel who? His band is nothing short of rock professionals and Myles Kennedy has proven to be one of the most talented singers to emerge at a time when rock needs him most. I am certain he will enjoy a long and rewarding career. Beats me why Page didn't get him to do the "Zeppelin" Tour when Plant thought it was more Important to do that Jazz/Country album with ERR whats her Name? In rock when a man does something stupid like that a Someone else is usually Involved. I was home no loner then 4 minutes( about the time it took be to crack open a beer) and purchased 4 tixx fot the hammerstein show NYC in Sept.

  • Slash rock's the Paramount ny

by Lassmoon on 8/6/12The Paramount - HuntingtonRating: 4 out of 5

Slash didn't disappoint last night at the Paramount ny. He and the band kept the pedal to the metal. Playing songs from G n R day's, Snakepit other solo song's up to this group's fine music. Myles Kennedy can sing rock with the right edge and show's he enjoy's the crowd. The Conspirators are a good backing band. Fun night of rock n roll.

  • by MylesKfan1 on 8/6/12The Paramount - HuntingtonRating: 5 out of 5

The entire band was tight and on fire! Myles Kennedy's vocals were of course amazing and he never disappointed any of his fans with his ability to bring it 100%! Slash was fantastic and had the entire place up and roaring, constantly leaving us wanting more. The entire evening was nothing short of amazing! The level of energy between the band and us (the fans) was a constant and it's effects are still evident, two days later! I'd see them again in a heartbeat!!

  • Slash and Myles a perfect combination

by LuckyBassterd on 8/6/12The Paramount - HuntingtonRating: 5 out of 5

First, opening band was good. Now onto Slash, Myles and Co. Amazing show. Played their balls off for 127 minute show. We were up close on the floor so got a first hand view of Slash's maddening guitar skills, SMS watching home live. Myles' voice covered every tune flawlessly, "Axel WHO" . Anyway, I'll be able to tell my grand kids about having seen Slash in concert. Which by then I imagine he'll have risen to the fame and notoriety of Jimi. Great to see the, in such a small and personal venue. Watching cc Seville dance his off in the balcony... Priceless. amazing night all for a pittance in ticket cost. You guys ROCK.

  • Slash is the man!

    by JoeRo201 on 8/6/12The Paramount - HuntingtonRating: 5 out of 5

From the first note to the last, Slash showed why he is considered a guitar legend.

  • Great Show!

by MacBee on 8/6/12The Paramount - HuntingtonRating: 5 out of 5

I hadn't seen Slash perform live since the GNR days at Sundance and L'amour Brooklyn here in NY and Saturday night he showed why he is not only one of the top guitarist out there today, but the key to the GNR sound! His chops and the passion he plays with is second to none and to see him out there perform with this new band was amazing! The Conspirators did a great job backing this legend of a musician and Myles Kennedy was flawless on vocals, he sang the GNR songs better live then Axl ever did and the new material is not only current and well written, but has such a raw yet polished rock edge, that Slash deserves to be headlining arenas right now! The Paramount in Huntington, NY is a top notch venue with great Acoustics for audio and even video screens and a camera package...so no action is misse! I highly recommend this venue for a show and Slash's new band, neither one will disappoint!

  • The Best!

    by Heat2 on 8/6/12The Paramount - HuntingtonRating: 5 out of 5

Awesome show!!!!! The only disappointment was the a/c was not working. Security was spraying the crowd with water bottles like cattle.

  • Slash with Myles Kennedy rocked!

by dpkennedy on 8/6/12The Paramount - HuntingtonRating: 4 out of 5

This was my first time at this venue since it changed from IMAC theater. I really liked the changes they made-it's a great place to see a concert. Although standing for hours did get to me, it wasn't too crowded that you couldn't get through to the bar with too much difficulty and you can see from anywhere. The show was fantastic too. We have tickets to more shows coming up and we are looking forward to them.

  • SLASH ROCKED!!

  • Sweaty Hot Awesome Show!

by RockmomNYC on 8/6/12The Paramount - HuntingtonRating: 5 out of 5

Waited 21 years to hear Guns N Roses songs live again! And better yet, did not have to wait on Axl's sorry lazy ass to show up and then trash talk everyone around him (as he did in Nassau Coliseum in 1991 when I last saw and heard). Myles Kennedy is smokin hot, great voice and always smiling. Slash was, well slashing and making love to his guitar like I wanted to see. Great show, although The Paramount does NOT have adequate air conditioning for all the peeps in the dead of summer on the floor. Indoor show and they were hosing down the crowd. Crank up the air next time Paramount!
