SHY GIRLS IN CONCERT:
Portland-based Shy Girls makes lush alternative R&B that blends smooth vocals, minimal beats, and pulsing synths to arrive at a unique sound full of subtle swagger. In the studio Shy Girls is the solo project of producer and vocalist Dan Vidmar, but on the road he’s joined by a talented backing band that brings new dimension to already-nuanced cuts like “Second Heartbeat” and “Without”. From the falsetto vocals and jazz guitar solo of “Still Not Falling” to the icy synths of “Under Attack”, Vidmar always transports ticket buyer to a brilliantly detailed sonic world full of groove-worthy beats and mesmerizing melodies.
BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:
Shy Girls’ Dan Vidmar started producing music in the late ‘00s while working at a Portland emergency room. The moonlight hobby became a full-time passion, leading Vidmar to turn down his acceptance to medical school to focus on music. In 2013 he released his debut EP Timeshare on LA-based label Hit City USA. The record earned him heaps of critical buzz, leading to collaborations with electronic music heavyweights like ODESZA and Cyril Hahn. Following tours with HAIM and Little Dragon, Vidmar followed up in early 2015 with his debut mixtape 4WZ, an ambitious collection of futuristic R&B featuring appearances by Antwon, Tei Shi, and Junglepussy. On tour with a full band in 2015, Vidmar brought his lush, intmate tunes to life with string of epic live performances.

An amazing show. The Shy Girls had great stage presence, and it was very well mixed.
I forget the name of the opener, but that's fine. She was a girl playing to backing tracks dancing in boxing shorts on stage. She could barely hit the notes she was trying to sing and was about as entertaining as watching wallpaper dry. The main act came on next (I didn't stay for Shy Girls after) and her voice was so lack luster and the musicians were playing such minimalist stylings that I got bored and my ears didn't want to hear any of it. I actually end up putting on headphones and listening to another band. I've never had to do that before.
Shy Girls, Tei Shi & Young Ejecta were all absolutely incredible. It was a nice, cosy venue and we were right in front of the stage. I thought I was in for a chill night but I ended up dancing hard a lot of the time. Got so much more than my money's worth.
Especially that Dan Vidmar, what a hunk! One of my favorite bands of all time!
