Shrine Circus on Tour

For more than a century, the Shrine Circus has dazzled audiences around the U.S. with family-friendly delights. Shriners chapters all over the country sponsor these circuses annually, offering their members a chance to reach out to the community and giving children of all ages the chance to see thrilling stunts and exotic animals at reasonable prices. The Shrine Circus has been a bedrock of many American communities' yearly calendars for decades, creating a long-lasting tradition that builds bonds both in and between families.

Shrine Circus Background

Established in 1872, Shriners International has been one of America's premier fraternities promoting fellowship and brotherhood. Known throughout the world for their philanthropic efforts with Shriners Hospitals for Children, which offers sliding-scale medical services to children in need of orthopedic, cleft lip and palate, burn, and spinal injury care, the Shriners have also been beloved for the circuses they put on around the country.

Similar to the mission of the Shriners Hospitals, the Shrine Circus puts the idea of affordability for all families front and center. The first Shrine Circus was held in 1906 in Detroit at the Moslem Shrine Center. Since then, Shrine chapters all around the country have put on their own versions of the big show. While the circuses are more often held inside arenas than under big tops, attractions remain familiar, varying from city to city but usually including massive elephants, kooky yet friendly clowns, and high-flying acrobats.

Circus stars like the Wallendas, Clyde Beatty, and the Zacchinis have all been included in the Shrine Circus' past lineups. In 2019, the Detroit Shrine Circus featured the Dominguez Motorcycle Stunt Show, made up of former Ringling Bros. daredevils who perform death-defying tricks while encased in a steel globe. The St. Paul Osman Shrine Circus is the longest continuously running Shrine Circus in the U.S.

    The Shrine Circus was disappointing

by mnkraut on 10/17/09Target Center - Minneapolis

It is not a "true" 3 ring circus like it used to be. When I went 40 some years ago, I remember events going on in all three rings all at once along with the arial acts. I also remember the clowns crowding into a tiny little car and really entertaining us. They didn't even do anything except walk around and sign the programs. My grandson enjoyed it but I was disappointed.

The circus was a great family event. I was on the edge of my chair, toes curled with some of those acrobatic feats! Only complaint...Couldn't understand the female circus announcer. Her tone of voice, along with her accent and dragging out her words made her unintelligible most of the time.

    The before the show

by Rebeltcb on 10/14/09Nashville Municipal Auditorium - Nashville

I would have the beginning of the show be more about where the money goes and less about who is sponsoring it.

    Great Family Fun!!!

by Nashfam on 10/8/09Nashville Municipal Auditorium - Nashville

Wildly entertaining! Really enjoyed the elephant rides! Wish event had begun at least 1 hour earlier on the opening night to allow for more time for riding animals as well as allowing the conclusion not to be so late in the evening (after all, it is for the KIDS! Right?...what about bedtimes and school the next day!)

    Disappointed

by NikiMayo on 10/5/09Nashville Municipal Auditorium - Nashville

Me and my family went and we had fun, exspecially my children. Just for me I am more impressed with the Ringling Brothers & Barlem and Baily circus better. They invest more for you money. There is more stuff. I didn't like how small the arena was and everything was so exspensive. Just to jump in the kids jump stuff was $10.00 and everything else was $10.00 a piece. I just like the other circus that I listed above and I like the Somet Center instead of the Municple. The part I hated the most was the girls dancing around. First of all it was a circus not a strip show. Why did I pay money for a ticket for me and my family to watch girls half naked dance around. The circus is supossed to be about animals. There was times when I had to really distract my children from watching. Besides the fact they couldn't dance and were horrible. I think I could have come up with a better act than them.

    Amazing!!

by Tournure on 10/4/09Nashville Municipal Auditorium - Nashville

My grandfather gave us tickets every year until I was almost 10. Even thought we moved 3 hours away, this year I decided to take my family to see the Shrine Circus in Nashville. My 9-yr-old son said it was "the best thing we've ever done together!" Just sorry we didn't see the clown cars. D: Must have seated a little late. They ARE my FAVORITE part! ^^ ~ Thanks again for all u do. <3 <3

    Shriners Circus Was Wonderful

by Mrtnme on 10/4/09Nashville Municipal Auditorium - Nashville

My husband and I are senior citizens and hadn't been to a circus since we took our grandchildren, who are now in their 20's. We decided to go on the spur of the moment. We really enjoyed every single act. One of our favorite acts was the act with the clown and the stuffed camel, elephant, and tiger. The whole circus was entertaining and very fast moving. It went just the right length of time before a brief intermission. Having the animal rides before the first half and during intermission was an added plus for small children. This circus is a must see for all ages!

Non-stop fun, and for a good cause as well. If "greatest show on earth" was an award, they would win in a landslide

    boring

by txscr1 on 9/21/09Laredo Entertainment Center - Laredo

Sorry but i have to say that we found maybe this perticular day of showing was very boring. it was my sons first time and he didnt love that was his exact words. i think that you should show what things will be showing in the different shows for everyday if they are different. I think for children there was way to much showing on some of the girls. IT JUST WASNT FUN!!! My son was dying to see Lions and Tigers and didnt get to. I hope you all can do something in the future for those things. I really wanted to ask for a reimbursement because we got VIP for nothing good....
