About

Husband and wife duo Shovels & Rope possess an undeniable chemistry that they bring to the stage with them every time they perform. Their stylish brand of alt-country incorporates elements of rock, folk, and even punk, and their eclectic live shows bring it all to life as they belt out songs like "Birmingham" and "The Devil Is All Around" in perfect harmony. Equal parts anthemic and heart-rending,  Shovel & Rope's passionate performances never fail to get ticket buyers grooving on the duo's must-see tours.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Shovels & Rope is Cary Ann Hearst and Michael Trent, two South Carolina-based musicians who began collaborating in 2008 on what was intended to be a one-off album titled Shovels & Rope. The duo quickly realized they had both musical and personal chemistry, and in 2009 they were married.  They made their sophomore outing as Shovels & Rope in 2012 with O' Be Joyful, an impressive slice of country folk that topped Billboard's Heatseekers Albums Chart and earned them the title of Emerging Artist of the Year at the 2013 Americana Music Honors & Awards.  Shovels & Rope continued to delight in 2014 with their third album Swimmin' Time, following up the release with a series of rousing performances on the road.

FANS WHO BOUGHT TICKETS SAY:

"One of the best shows I have seen in years! If you haven't seen them yet you are missing out!"

    Always an incredible show ♥️

by Skappy on 10/29/22Neptune Theatre - Seattle

One of our favorite bands of all time! Me, the husband and our two kids (11 & 9) love Shovels & Rope and try to see them each time they’re in the upper left. The venue was cool as well. Super thankful we got be there!

    Shovels & Rope Never Disappoints

by Chippy on 4/20/22Greenfield Lake Amphitheater - Wilmington

S&R is one of my favorite bands but I did miss hearing a lot of my favorite songs as they mostly played tracks from their new album. Greenfield Lake Amphitheater is a local gem and it was a beautiful night to be outside enjoying music.

    Fun show.

by Allys on 4/19/22Greenfield Lake Amphitheater - Wilmington

First time seeing them. We had a great time. People were angry at us others for singing, etc. That bothered us a little bit.

    Fantastic Show!

by Thurmans on 11/23/21Old Forester's Paristown Hall - Louisville

We had a great date night, getting to see our favorite band, and the venue was perfect for this size show. The only complaint was the beer selection, but there was ample service which kept the lines short. We’ll definitely go back there for future shows.

    Wonderful Experience

by Kaylin on 11/23/21Old Forester's Paristown Hall - Louisville

My husband and I opted for the premium balcony tickets and were so thrilled with that choice! Great show, unique venue, affordable upgrades that made a world of difference! Obviously the performers were as amazing as we have come to expect, truly nothing like seeing them live.

    Pretty good

by SL on 11/23/21Old Forester's Paristown Hall - Louisville

It is always good to hear live music and this is a talented duo although their songs basically all sound the same. There is not a bad seat at this venue, which is great, but it was so breezy and FREEZING cold (inside) that it made the performance less enjoyable.

Absolutely phenomenal show. The music was awesome. The venue was awesome. I love Shovels and Rope. Great artist, each time I’ve seen them has been unique. I really wish we could get them to come to Lexington, Ky and play Manchester Music Hall….

    Great Music and Charming Banter

by EmilyE on 11/5/21Birchmere - Alexandria

The musical prowess of Shovels and Rope is obvious, only made better by their delightful banter between songs. The only thing I would change would be to sit closer next time!

    Good!

    by C. I. on 8/6/21

Saw them open for Greta Van Fleet and they killed it! Everyone was having a good time and it felt very 60s and chill. I loved every moment of it! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

    Disappointed

    by R. B. on 11/10/19Ryman Auditorium - Nashville

The venue was great as usual but was disappointed Shovels and Ropes music selections for that evening. I just wasn't what we had expected.

Great venue and loved the history of this building.

Show great and Hayes Carll who opened up was amazing, too! Seats were great thru Ticketmaster.

    Lousy, at best

by Sunshine Girl on 11/9/19Ryman Auditorium - Nashville

So I was excited to finally be going to the Ryman as I had grown up with country music. But shovels and Rope were not what I was hoping for at all. Not our kind of music at all. So disappointing to finally make it to the Ryman and then to have to endure this NOISE. We were with a group of 8 and we all got up and left. Wish we could have asked for a refund. 😨

    Too Loud

by Jean from Ca on 11/9/19Ryman Auditorium - Nashville

The first act was great. The main act was so loud we left early. You couldn’t understand the words they were singing. Very disappointed!

    Love Shovels & Rope!

by Ryles on 11/9/19Ryman Auditorium - Nashville

Ryman 11/06/19. Great show! Love their music, enthusiasm, talent. Only complaint was the sound... Hayes Carll sound was very clear, understood every word he sang/spoke. S & R had something in the low frequencies muddying the vocals when drums, keyboard was playing. On quieter sections, vocals were clear and wonderful. Also my opinion in a couple spots the light show distracted from the music. Saw them in Chicago outside in daylight & was mesmerized! Although this show was excellent, not quite as good sound.

    Poor sound mix

by Brian M on 11/1/19The Fillmore - San Francisco

The band was good, but the sound mix was awful. Way too much bass (bass drum, bass notes of keyboard), and not enough of the guitar and vocals.
