I Do Believe in Magic!
by A. on 8/31/21Rating: 5 out of 5I was a fan when I was a girl. The hair! Those eyes! That voice! I couldn't get my dad to take me to a concert back then, so last night, at the City Winery in Chicago, I finally went to see him myself. I could not have appreciated the experience then as I did last night.
He took the stage with a song and the screaming began. Favorites from the past flowed from his guitar and piano and throughout the night I remembered what it was like to be a young girl again. But the best was yet to come!
As he played, a Shaun Cassidy emerged I couldn't have understood as a teeny-bopping fangirl. The writer, the storyteller, revealed himself in Shaun as he told tale after tale of his life experiences and the origins of many of his songs. He said something I hadn't considered before, and I'm paraphrasing here, that a true concert isn't the seperate experience of the performer and the audience, but of the connection between them. In that moment, my fangirl crush on a hot teen idol transitioned into respect for not only a talented (and still handsome!) singer, but a man who built a career on writing stories that warm hearts and bring people together. He's a magician who will take you back in time, make you feel young again, and then leave you smiling in the present.
If you have a chance to see Shaun, he is worthy of your time and money.
Mr. Cassidy, if you read your reviews, thank you for a wonderful night. This world needs more of your stories, so how about you save that last song you'll ever write for later and keep going for a while longer.
