Entertaining show even if you're not a fan
by Nicki in Jacksonville on 11/28/23Ponte Vedra Concert Hall - Ponte Vedra BeachRating: 5 out of 5I admit, I was not a Shaun Cassidy fan in the 70s, but many of my friends were. I was a Bay City Rollers fan (who amusingly, got a mention in this show.) Still, I owned a couple of Shaun's singles at the time, as I bought all the Top 40 45s back then. I went to this show out of curiosity, to relive my pre-teen Tiger Beat days. Decades past his teen idol phase, I could not imagine him touring after all this time, or what the show could possibly contain. He's been working behind the scenes since then, and how would that translate to a show *now*, I wondered?
What we got was a total surprise to me. It's a musical biography of this multi-talented man's life and his very famous family. Accompanied by two musicians on piano, acoustic and electric guitars, one being his adorable nephew. We see two generations of the talented Cassidy family on stage. There are poignant tributes to his relatives passed. There's a mix of songs and reminiscent commentary, funny stories, show tunes, well selected traditional Christmas songs, and a few of his own teen hits. Some of which were classic early rock& roll numbers.
I was happy to hear the unexpected Christmas songs and see the festive holiday stage set with grand piano. It was a top notch production. Recommended for anyone who enjoys timeless music and amusing tales of showbiz history. Not sure if the show will continue past Christmas, or change in some way afterwards, but he's a captive entertainer on stage and worth an evening out.
