San Diego State University Aztecs at SDCCU Stadium
Now that the NFL's Chargers have cleared out of town, the Aztecs are the principal tenant of SDCCU Stadium (formerly known as Qualcomm Stadium, formerly known as Jack Murphy Stadium, formerly known as San Diego Stadium). The stadium sits about five miles from the SDSU campus. Designed for pro crowds, SDCCU Stadium offers a loose fit for the light-drawing Aztecs, who make up for it with an entertaining brand of mostly nighttime football.
The team's trademark is its all-black uniform, which dates back to the era of coach Don Coryell. The mascot is the Aztec Warrior, and a "warrior shield" accompanies the team on the sidelines, to be held aloft after victories during the fight song. About two hours before kickoff, the players accompany the Marching Aztecs and members of the spirit squad on the Warrior Walk from the stadium's parking lot to the tunnel leading out onto the field.
San Diego State University Aztecs Football History
The first San Diego State football game was in 1921, but the history of Aztecs football began in earnest with coach Don Coryell, one of the greatest innovators ever to walk a sideline. Coryell took over as coach in 1961, leading San Diego State to undefeated seasons in 1966 and 1968 in the NCAA's small-college division and in 1969 at the NCAA's top level. Instead of competing directly with college football's big schools, he built his program by doing the things they tended not to do. He recruited heavily from junior colleges, and on offense he took to the air rather than play the game on the ground. The Aztecs produced a number of NFL quarterbacks during his time on campus: Don Horn, Jesse Freitas, Dennis Shaw and 1980 NFL MVP Brian Sipe. Coryell decamped for the NFL in 1973, and his radical emphasis on the passing game came to be known as the Air Coryell offense.
If Coryell put San Diego State on the map, it was Marshall Faulk who left an indelible mark. A nimble-footed, soft-handed running back, in 1991 Faulk recorded one of the best freshman seasons in college football history, rushing for 1,429 yards and 23 total touchdowns, while scoring 140 points in all. As a junior, in his final season, Faulk did a bit of everything, running for 1,530 yards and catching 47 passes for 640 yards. In 1994, Faulk was the second overall pick in the NFL draft.
Not football. It was an event for TV viewers, and not the fans that bought tickets.
I am Frome Europe. First time I was attending a football game. No trouble with the reservation. The ambiance in the stadium was very friendly, people were very nice and explained me the rules so I could understand and appreciate the game. When understanding this is a good game, I like the pompom girls show and the marching band
Hopefully they get a new upgraded stadium, they deserve it. Not like the Chargers.
Great seats at a great price. I would definitely go again!
Super easy to choose tickets on line, pay and have them in your account. It’s even easier to pull them up on game day to gain entry. Perfect night for an Aztec win!!!
Got there at 4:30 to tailgate, great time with friends, good food, great atmosphere. Great game, great win for our Aztecs, very exciting.
Honestly, the seats that I got were definitely not worth the money.
Great game and amazing sky show, one of my favorite events.
Game was kind of boring, the Sky show was great as always but too long of a wait in between firework displays
The Aztecs vs Sac State game was good, although SDSU should have won by more. The KGB Sky Show after the game was amazing! THE RIDICULOUS UPCHARGES TICKETMASTER ADDS TO THE BOTTOM LINE PRICE ARE OUTRAGEOUS!!!!
Great football game and totally awesome fireworks. KGB puts on a quality show.
I have wheel chair accessible seating tickets in Club level and I had never sat in this section before. I get up there and can't find where my seats should be and no one knows anything up there! Only young security associates who know nothing about the stadium. So after 20 mins of trying to find someone who can help us we end up having to go back down to main level to find customer service where they don't know either. I sit another 20+ mins for them to go to ticketing to figure out where our seats are supposed to be. The girl finally comes back & takes us back to show us where are seats are. So club handicap seating has to go up to Loge where are the box seats are and the handicap wheelchair seating is in between the box seats!!! So after all this there was only 8 mins left in the first half of the game!! And they offered me nothing for the inconvenience and missing half the game! Thank god the sky show was good! Otherwise I would have given a poor!
Spectacular and unique fireworks synced to classic rock music! This was an amazing show. kGB radio station sponsors this event once a year.
Fresno State handles SDSU in this one, 27-3. Great atmosphere as always.
I acquired my two club seats via Ticketmaster. I used the easy to understand website and found just what I was looking for.
Being at the SDSU game was really fun! The seats were actually too close to the field, which meant we couldn't see over the football players who were standing on the sidelines. Also, the 4 people in the row in front if us stood up for every good play so they could see what was happening. This meant we would have to stand too but still couldn't see over them because they were all so tall. We moved back a few rows and to the left of our original seats to be able to see the field a little better. I thought sitting close would be good, but not if you want to see the game!
You would think front row seats would be the best in the house. But I couldn't even see the players on the field because the whole football bench is on their feet constantly blocking the view.
Have not been to Football game for number of years and will never go to a televised game again. The breaks for tv made the game unwatchable. Add to that the completely terrible play calling, 9 in the box, just keep running up the middle. Blairing music through a horrible sound system, lame in crowd video interactions and of course the same numbers of drunk obnoxious people that used to be at charger games. Wow quite a night to forget and one that will not be experienced again.
pay hundreds of dollars for tickets with wife and kids and no concessions open on our level. Should at least tell us before spending $80 per ticket.
Was so disappointed to go to the game and it be their 1st loss of the season. I support them and will be at next game too. Hoping that they look like the team I have been cheering on all year.
