An Unforgettable Production
by MythicStoryTeller on 9/7/15Royce Hall - UCLA - Los AngelesAlthough I knew little about the ancient Persian myth, or the famous story teller, Gordafarid, the production captivated me from the moment the lights went out. The set was very simple, as were the costumes, which placed emphasis on the elegant choreography, shifting shapes and shadows projected on long, flowing fabric, and on the mesmerizing cadence of Ms. Mofid's narration. The story reminded me at once of Greek tragedies I've seen performed in other countries. Because Los Angeles is home to so many Persians (as evidenced by the audience that night), I was able to connect the anguish, violence, and yearning for one's homeland with modern politics. A stunning production, imbued with restraint, poetry, and passion.
