SBTRKT IN CONCERT:
Ever since the drop of his self-titled 2011 debut album, London-based producer SBTRKT has been synonymous with next-level, genre-devouring electronic music. His wide-ranging compositions encompass everything from R&B, and dubstep to bass music and house, making for an eclectic concert experience that treats fans to the farthest reaches of sonic possibility. Taking the stage in their signature tribal masks, SBTRKT and longtime vocal collaborator Sampha round out their sound with real drums and synthesizers, ensuring epic tracks like "War Drums" and "Wildfire" are even more massive live. In 2014 SBTRKT released his hotly anticipated sophomore album Wonder Where We Land to critical acclaim, generating significant buzz among ticket buyers for his upcoming tour dates.
BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:
London-based SBTRKT, aka Aaron Jerome, got his start as a DJ in the city's underground club scene before making a name for himself as a talented remix artist. In 2009 he made his debut with the Musik Lace EP, an impressive first effort that established him as a potent new force in electronic music and hinted at big things to come. Breakthrough success followed in 2011 with his self-titled debut LP, a critical smash that was named one of the best albums of the year by both Pitchfork and NME. He followed the release with extensive touring and a steady stream of popular remixes, as well as the stellar single "Wildfire", a collaboration with Drake and Yukimi Nagano of Little Dragon. In 2014 he released a trio of EPs -- Transitions I, II, and III -- before dropping his sophomore album Wonder Where We Land. The record featured an impressive roster of guest stars including Jessie Ware, A$AP Ferg, and Ezra Koenig, earning rave reviews from critics and building excitement among fans for his upcoming shows.
Rating: 3 out of 5by toroignacio on 11/2/14Théâtre Corona - Montreal Rating: 3 out of 5 Sbtrkt was good but the opener?
by keyb2003 on 10/30/14Terminal 5 - New YorkI enjoyed the little part of which I saw of sbtrkt but it was annoying that they came on so late on a Monday night. It would have been better if the opening acts had anything to do with the genre of music. The first guy was tolerable but I felt like I was paying for something I did not wish to see. The bit that I saw of sbtrkt was good though.
Rating: 1 out of 5 Sbtrkt @ terminal 5
by Tomvdp on 10/30/14Terminal 5 - New YorkI'm so disappointed by this show. It was like listening to spotify. No interaction, no energy. Just bad.
Rating: 5 out of 5 SBTRKT = REAL
by paezano on 10/30/14Terminal 5 - New YorkWhenever I go to T5, I feel at home. I have been trying to SBTRKT for 3 years now. I finally go to see him and I was more impressed than I thought I was originally going to be. HIs music really touches you. You can almost feel what he feels through his music. He is a real DJ/Producer up there with REAL instruments. He's not just pressing play. This was one of the best shows of the year for me and I've to a lot.

Rating: 5 out of 5 New DORP. New YORK
by Anonymous on 10/29/14Terminal 5 - New YorkWhat an excellent show to top off an excellent weekend! This was my first time at Terminal 5 - loved the venue and definitely plan on attending more shows there. I got there around 8:30pm, right as Nick Hook was early in his set. His set really got everyone grooving as an energetic start to a memorable night. Granted, I was not really expecting/wanting to wait so long for SBTRKT to come on, but there was never a dull moment leading up to the time they finally took the stage. This was also my first time seeing SBTRKT - I was NOT disappointed! They have an incredible stage presence, eye catching visuals and lights as well as just a constant burst of energy on stage. They sounded even better live and never missed a beat. I am still dreaming about that show...
Rating: 4 out of 5 SBTRKT is siiiick. I just wish for ore live vocals
by archal on 10/29/14Terminal 5 - New YorkIncredible setup, perfect mixing, sick tunes. They had about 3 or 4 live singers which was great, but I'd love to hear him singing like I saw on the Abbey Road live recordings. Great set though. Could not stop dancing.
Rating: 2 out of 5 better with Sampha
by FalconPrincess on 10/29/14Terminal 5 - New YorkI saw SBTRKT and Sampha a few years back and I couldn't believe what an amazing match they were. His voice entranced the audience in a way that SBTRKT alone clearly cannot do. I suggest he dig up some talented vocalists for his next tours. They dot have to be the ones on the album, but someone has to light that stage up.

Rating: 2 out of 5by Anonymous on 10/22/14Fox Theater - Oakland - Oakland I have enjoyed SBTRKT's music for a few year now and was very excited to see he was playing in my area. He's been one of my favorite DJs in the genre. However, I was very disappointed by the show. There didnt seem to be much "live" activities going on, and rather they just seemed to "push play." I expected the live performance to be different than the produced songs... I brought three friends with me who weren't as familiar with SBTRKT and they were not impressed due to the lack of live DJing :( The venue was great and I was impressed with the surrounding area! I will definitely go back to the venue again!
Rating: 3 out of 5 Would have preferred a DJ set vs live musicians
by ConstanceG on 10/21/14The Belasco Theater - Los AngelesI've seen SBTRKT live twice before this show; I am definitely a fan! But comparing shows, this one was a bit of a let down. I didn't think there was good continuity & flow between songs, which didn't allow for lots of dancing.
Rating: 1 out of 5by yomamma12 on 10/21/14Fox Theater - Oakland - Oakland I got my wallet stolen and my boyfriend got his phone stolen. We still have not heard back from the fox theater lost and found. Other than that the show was fun and the venue was nice.
Rating: 1 out of 5 $45 for 1 1/2 hours??!!! Disappointed.
by Mamazuk on 10/21/14Fox Theater - Oakland - OaklandSBTRKT has been one of my favorite dj's for many years. I love his music, but this show was a huge let down. The ticket was $45, he went on at 9:15 and finished at 10:45. The venue was full with people packed in like sardines...no room to dance at all. It was just a huge disappointment! Bummer!!!
Rating: 1 out of 5 Worst Live Show Ever
by bendygirl on 10/20/14Fox Theater - Oakland - OaklandThe headliner finshed the show at 10:38p on a Friday!! What more is there to say?! People were in line to get in when SBTRAKT completed. Total waste of time, money, & effort. I heard to crappy songs for $100. Big bad on the Fox to allow a head liner to end that early. Poor management on their end. Refund!
Rating: 4 out of 5by Anonymous on 10/20/14Fox Theater - Oakland - Oakland Great show. Enjoyed way more than I thought I would. Really fun.
Rating: 2 out of 5 Seemed to still be working out the kinks
by Berger123456 on 10/20/14Fox Theater - Oakland - OaklandPlayed some of the hits from the first record as well some from Wonder Where We Land. In general though the grooves seemed a bit repetitive and boring. There were a couple major disconnections between dj and band members. They were going with a DJ/keys + Live Band (drums, keys, aux instruments) configuration. All vocals were pre recorded. It sounded like the basic strategy was to let a vocal track play fairly unaltered and then essentially have the band play along with it. This ended up sounding inconsistent at best. The band would sound fairly tight when they were playing lines straight off the record, but things generally sounded pretty disconnected when they tried to develop ideas over the vocals, with some notable breakdowns as I mentioned above. The end result was something that sounded more like a jam I would try and put together with friends than a finished product and had me wondering if this was a configuration that might be new for SBTRKT, trying to bridge the gap between DJ set and live band.
