SAY ANYTHING IN CONCERT:

Emo/pop punk band Say Anything have mastered the art of penning infectious, melodic pop songs without losing their edge, continually pushing their sound  forward by incorporating elements from genres as far-ranging as math rock and indie pop. The band expertly balances their high-octane material with frontman Max Bemis' softer side, treating fans at their live shows to the full gamut of sonic experience, from frenetic barn burners like "Alive With the Glory of Love" to introspective acoustic songs like "Belt." With their highly anticipated eighth album Hebrews due out in the summer of 2014, the band will hit the road on tour in support of the release.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Formed in Los Angeles in 2000, Say Anything self-released their first two EPs, Junior Varsity and In Your Dreams, as well as their debut full-length Baseball:  An Album by Sayanything. In 2004 they made their label debut with ...Is a Real Boy, released on Doghouse Records to a Top 10 spot on Billboard's Top Heatseekers chart. Despite lineup changes and several hiatuses brought on by health issues suffered by frontman Max Bemis, the band's next three albums were all Top 40 hits on the Billboard 200, making them a festival staple and constant presence on the Vans Warped Tour. In support of the 2014 release of eighth album Hebrews, the band once again hits the road for another round of high-octane shows.

FANS WHO BOUGHT TICKETS SAY:

" Say Anything put on an incredibly upbeat and amazing show. If you get the chance to see these guys live... it's a must!"

" From the moment they took the stage to the moment Max left, the venue was filled with energy. It was probably one of the best concert experiences I have ever had."

" Say Anything was, of course, spectacular. It was super exciting to hear them play so many of their older songs that I never thought I'd get to hear live. Overall, great show!"

Say Anything is a consistently great band on stage and in studio. This performance was no exception. They played a lot of deep cuts this time around, and the strings added a subtle touch to the songs. The band was in good spirits and the crowd seemed to enjoy it. My only complaint is that the venue was incredibly hot, and a little narrow for the event.

    Disheartening, disappointing, infuriating

by xanyax on 7/6/15The Norva - Norfolk

I was very excited to see Say Anything for the first (and now last) time. I suppose something can be said for the eight musicians on stage who were professional enough to provide a solid performance. However, when the lead singer is too wasted to stand up by himself or sing coherently and in time to the music it's not really a show it's just an embarrassment. What happened Friday night is disrespectful and alienating to the fans. And it's upsetting to see a musician you look up to in that condition. It was just painful. I stayed hoping they would send him offstage and let someone else sing as a final attempt to salvage the show. That didn't happen and I wish it had been cancelled. It was a waste of time and money.

    Waste of Money

by DisappointedWife on 7/6/15The Norva - Norfolk

The lead singer of Say Anything was completely wasted and put on a terrible show. He was falling, knocking over microphone stands, and was barely slurring out the lyrics. I bought the tickets for my husband as a gift and feel terrible that it was a waste of our time and money. I know we are not the only ones who were disappointed. We only made it through 4 songs before we left, and there was a group of people outside talking with staff about how to receive a refund.

    YIKES

by trapmamix on 7/6/15The Norva - Norfolk

Personally, $30 to watch a drunken mess (max from say anything) walk off stage, constantly fall, and spit all over the crowd wasn't worth the money. Modern Baseball was incredible, as always. But the uncomfortableness of watching a grown man babble on stage and cause issues for the other people on stage all doing so well was irritating.

    Pathetic

by JayyR on 7/6/15The Norva - Norfolk

Looks like Max is drinking heavily again. He was incoherent and fell off stage twice before I left during the 5th song. The whole place was basically empty by then. Save your money. Unless you wanna see modern baseball on this your, they're worth your money.

Max so intoxicated, could barely sing/stand

by Anonymous on 7/6/15The Norva - Norfolk

I have been looking forward to this show for 5+ years and left extremely disappointed and uncomfortable after trying to stick it out past the third song. Max entered the stage while stumbling and slurring his words and remained extremely intoxicated for the rest of the time my husband and I were there (and after we left, until the show ended early according to online accounts). The rest of the band and string quartet were extremely graceful about the situation and played wonderfully while their frontman was hanging all over them, their instruments, and basically falling over the entire time. This is all not to mention that he fell off the stage twice.

An already annoying night made worse:/

by Knutsaak on 7/1/15Masquerade - Atlanta

Let me just say that Modern Baseball has got to be one of the best bands I've seen live...they were amazing! That being said, I don't know what happened before the show to prevent any sound checks from being done but having to listen to five to ten minutes of mic checks before each performance was aggravating to say the least... Some of the members for the opening act, Hard Girls, did not make it in time to start the show, so two of the guys from Modern Baseball helped out on drums and guitar to get the show going...very impressive!! Unfortunately, Say Anything took an hour to finally take the the stage(not an exaggeration!)..again, I have no idea what went down but it's rather crappy to stand there looking at the string quartet(who were obviously embarrassed for showing up on time)...Its a shame because they are so great live, I couldn't believe that half the crowd was gone after about twenty minutes of the set...but it had gotten rather late by then and I would be lying if I said I didn't think about doing the same thing... Bottom line, I love these bands and will give them the benefit of the doubt, everyone has bad days now and again... Wally

Max puts on one hell of an energetic show. Was disappointed by how few songs he played off the first couple albums. I was looking for some more nostalgia!

    Say Anything

by CAG123 on 12/24/14House of Blues Anaheim - Anaheim

Liked Reggie, Saves the Day was okay and wanted MORE Say Anything. By time they came on my back hurt so bad from standing til 6:30; bands don't play until 8:00; had to leave before hearing more of Say Anything because the crowd wanted more because my back hurt so bad.

Say Anything was not at their best.

by thursdaywoes on 12/16/14The Pageant - St Louis

I've seen Say Anything quite a few times and this was not what I expected. I was definitely excited to see them play ...Is A Real Boy all the way through, but unfortunately Max was sick, but that wasn't why it was terrible. The whole band was off and I had to sit through Saves the Day, a band that should've hung it up 10 years ago. This show was not at all what I expected and it was a giant waste of money.

Say Anything... Do I even have to review?

    by pbier67 on 12/14/14STAGE AE - Pittsburgh

Seriously insane concert as always! Say Anything killed it! 7th or so time Ive seen them and they never dissapoint! Is A Real Boy... Was A Real Boy... made me wonder if I was even real being there. Saves the Day crushed it rounding off there set of Through Being Cool with some songs from Stay What You Are and a few from other eps and records. Including Jesse and my Whetstone. Reggie and the Full Effrct were really comical, yet brought awesome sound as the opener along with outragous final song done by Sexy Cop. Overall Amazing!

Reggie and the Full Effect was so entertaining. I didn't stop laughing. Saves the Day was really bad but Say Anything is my favorite band and they were amazing.

Best birthday gift I could have ever bought!

by Cr8tvechick on 12/13/14The Pageant - St Louis

I bought these for my sister for her birthday. Her reaction was super excited and couldn't wait for the show. I received Facebook messages to say not only that she had a great time, but also my mom who went with her had a great time. And she has a much bigger appreciation for Say Anything. So all in all I could say it was a great purchase.

    Say Anything nails it again

    by sms166 on 12/10/14STAGE AE - Pittsburgh

Reggie and the Full Effect and Say Anything were great, even though I didn't know the first band. Saves the Day, however, played between them and their set was over an hour long and they were not very good entertainers. I try to give all musicians the benefit of the doubt if I've never listened to them before, but even after getting home and looking up the studio versions of their songs they were still awful. The venue was really neat, alcohol available in all areas with a valid ID. Big place, would definitely visit this venue again.

    Hands Down Best Live Band

by jessha on 12/8/14STAGE AE - Pittsburgh

I will never not go to Say Anything shows because they are hands down the absolute best band I have ever seen live. Even if you only know a few of their songs, I would recommend going to a show. I fall in love with them again every time I go see them. What to expect: high energy, great showmen, and a really fun community of fans. The venue (Stage AE) harbored a really cool atmosphere. Bar service was a little on the slow side (as to be expected at any event), so just be sure to grab your brew about fifteen minutes before the set starts.

    Awesome show

by DrPeppers on 12/8/14STAGE AE - Pittsburgh

If I was 18 again and you asked me what concert I'd like to see, it would of been this. Saves the day playing through being cool and say anything playing is a real boy was a dream come true. Felt like a kid again and rocked out. 10/10

Say Anything is alive with the glory of rock

    by GMoney90 on 12/8/14STAGE AE - Pittsburgh

Both Reggie and Say Anything did really well. I didn't care for saves the day. Seemed a bit unprofessional and was extremely loud compared to everyone else.

It was two great bands, playing to of their best CDs! The venue is great and the show seemed nearly sold out!
