SAWYER FREDERICKS IN CONCERT:

Folk singer-songwriter Sawyer Fredericks crooned his way to first place on the 2015 season of The Voice while just 16 years old, becoming the youngest performer in the show's history to do so. Since then he's lived up to the outsized expectations that came with his win, impressing critics with his major label debut and bringing down the house with his soulful performances on tour. Fredericks is a precocious talent whose voice and songwriting skills belie his youth, and his world-wise blend of folk and rock has a timeless quality that continues to resonate long after his Voice victory. Taking the stage with his signature long locks and bowler hat, Fredericks performs a mix of covers and finely crafted originals that showcase his stirring voice and serious guitar chops. The Voice judges had Fredericks pegged as a star the moment he arrived on the show, and ticket buyers will have no trouble seeing why as he delivers his impassioned sets on tour.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Sawyer Fredericks was home-schooled on an Upstate New York farm and began receiving voice lessons at age 11. Within a few years he was performing at local community events and farmers markets, and in 2013 he self-released his first studio album Out My Window – at just age 14. Fredericks' talent didn't go unnoticed – in 2015 he auditioned for The Voice and immediately impressed all four judges before joining team Pharrell. His road to victory saw him cover everyone from John Lennon and Al Green to Goo Goo Dolls and Ray LaMontagne, and nine of his performances reached the iTunes Top 10. Following his win Fredericks released a self-titled EP, and in 2016 he made his major label debut with the album A Good Storm. Both the EP and the LP reached No. 2 on Billboard's Folk Albums chart, promising big things to come and drumming up major excitement for his first headlining tour in summer of 2016.

    Sawyer Fredericks disappointed!

by Nesman on 9/7/16Birchmere - Alexandria

I loved Sawyer on The Voice so my wife and i wanted to experience him and his band at The Birchmere Music Hall in Alexandria, VA. His show was totally confusing when after playing a few tunes with his quality band, they left the stage for seven or eight solos by Sawyer, which were all ballads. I practically fell asleep...and I am a fan of his. He kept mumbling between singing his original songs, telling the audience he was trying to decide which song of his he would sing next. Huh???? It was all so embarrassing. I recommend that he hire a quality manager who can inject some discipline into his performances and help him with direction in his career. Until he changes show format, I say it's not worth spending your money.

The Amazing Performace of Sawyer Fredericks

    by Pinkroses67 on 9/7/16Birchmere - Alexandria

Sawyer Fredericks never lets a crowd down! He is a dedicated young Singer/Songwriter that refused to cancel his shows while not feeling well and give his performances EVERYTHING HE'S GOT!!! No matter how many times you see Sawyer Fredericks perform, it's ALWAYS like your first time. Words can't even come close to how talented and amazing this young 17 yr old is and the best part is: He will only get better and better! The staff at Birchmere were wonderful and kind. I wouldn't hesitate to go back for my favorite artists. THANK YOU BIRCHMERE FOR HAVING US.

Amazing Young Talent-but needs management guidance

by MissViva on 9/7/16Birchmere - Alexandria

My husband and I enjoyed seeing Sawyer Fredericks at The Birchmere in Alexandria, VA. We are both taken by his voice and song writing experience at only 17, however, his set list (or lack of one) was disappointing. The show started off great with the band, but being an acoustic music fan, I was looking forward to Sawyer's solo portion. Sawyer was admittedly tired from the tour. A couple of his acoustic self-written songs were very memorable, but they all started to sound the same after a while. He said he was getting bored with his songs so he played a lot of obscure ones and had a long stretch with no upbeat or familiar tunes. Since he's just starting out, this is not a good idea. He might be bored, but the audience paid to see him and expects to hear certain of his songs and familiar covers (at his age). He might not get the chance to play for them again. I admire artists who don't sell out, but Sawyer is still building a following, so he needs to play for the audience to some extent. IMHO, it would have been fantastic if he played 'Man of Constant Sorrow' first after the band returned for their second set, then ended with 'Not Coming Home.' One of the biggest disappointments was that he did not sing a duet with Amy Vachal, the opening act. His duets this tour are all over YouTube, so one comes to expect that.

Such a talented young man. He was amazing. He had been sick for a few days, but he performed amazingly! My second time seeing him...this young man needs to be on a radio so that people can appreciate his talent.

by MWhatever on 9/7/16Birchmere - Alexandria

the show was great from beginning till the end. Loved the venue and the crowd was just small enough to keep it personal. If you want to see an up and coming amazing song writer and artist..... Sawyer Fredericks is the one to see. Keeps it real

Sawyer Fredericks Is a special young man.

by Melissa45 on 9/5/16New Mountain AVL Theater - Ashville

I have followed Sawyer since I first saw him on the voice. I was so shocked at how much he reminded me of my youngest son, that I was sitting there amazed at how sweet he looked. He then opened his mouth and the most amazing voice came out of this talented young man. I was hoping that he would come close enough for me to be able to drive out and see him, since I am very sick. I drove to Asheville, and even though I was in extreme pain the entire concert due to my health, I would do it again and again just to hear his voice. The young man managed to get sick, and even sick there were moments that his voice had me in tears, because it was that pure and beautiful. I actually ended up sitting on the stage, because I couldn't stand up any more. That didn't even bother him or the band, they would just look over and smile at me every once and awhile. Even as sick as he was, he put on the best show that I have ever seen, and at 47 years old I have seen a lot of performances from many different types of artists. He is such a shy, sweet, and pleasant young man and it shows through. He didn't do the meet and greet because he was so sick, and this is to be expected since he has not been around so many people. Now to all of the people that have given him a bad review. Shame on you. I am going to take up for this young man right now. I know that he can not please everyone, but lets be fair to him. This young man is trying to help his other voice participants when he can, which most people would never do, he is young and inexperienced as a performer for bigger groups, but everyone has to start somewhere, and personally the young man could sing the phone book and I would still pay to see him. That being said, I feel that he should do his own music and stay true to himself just like Pharrell Williams told him to do. I was shocked to see such a wide range of ages at this concert, which to me speaks that he is going to end up with a fan base that is going to be very loyal to him throughout his career. I am ever so thankful that I was able to see this young man, and whatever he puts out, I will buy to continue to support him. The voice has been very bad about not supporting a lot of their winners, but that is their fault. This man does not have to change who he is to please everyone else. The good lord knows that we do not need anymore Justin Bieber's or Miley Cyrus's in the world. Stay true to yourself young man, listen only to the positive, and don't let the negative bother you,

Sawyer performed 17 songs in his 90 minute performance which truly showed his unique talent and the reason he won the Voice 2 years ago. Very enjoyable night and the venue provided the opportunity for the crowd to communicate with him. Great young man !!!!

    Sawyer Fredericks is unbelievable!!!!!

by seniorvic on 8/29/16Rose & Alfred Miniaci Performing Arts Center - Ft Lauderdale

I have attended many concerts for decades. I have never been to such a concert. His amazing songs are unbelievable. His voice is better in person than on TV or his CD's. He is so down to earth. His talent is truly given to him and he is using it doing the kind of songs he wants. Kudos to him. At his age to be able to go on a stage and sing with no band and sound the way he does is !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! During the meet and greet he was kind, respectful, and shy. Overall it would be a shame for anyone to miss it.

    Sawyer Fredericks Awesomeness

by Debiestate on 8/29/16Rose & Alfred Miniaci Performing Arts Center - Ft Lauderdale

Our experience at Ft Lauderdale's stop on Sawyer's A Good Storm Tour was amazing. Sawyer's voice is so powerful there is no comparison as to what you are hearing on a cd. He and his band produce such a phenomenal sound it just overtakes your whole being. Sawyer's singing reaches to your very soul, amazing how someone so young has such insight! My 11 y/o granddaughter is completely Sawyerized now!!

    Very talented.

by nancyandlucky on 8/29/16Rose & Alfred Miniaci Performing Arts Center - Ft Lauderdale

This very talented man child has a wonderful voice and musical ability. He writes some good songs and a few very good songs. The problem is he should mix that with something familiar for a well rounded concert. I would go see him again in a couple of years.

    So Sorry Sawyer

by Weter on 8/20/16Tobin Center - Studio - San Antonio

I must echo the sentiments of other disappointed Sawyer fans (Bethel Woods Theater, July '16) this young man was great on the Voice but is a very poor performer on his own. The band only serves to make hearing/understanding the lyrics even more difficult. Sawyer's original songs are very gloomy and hard to understand the words he sings; all sound about the same. He did play a few more recognizable tunes last night at the Tobin Center in San Antonio. And his encore performance of I Am A Man was terrific. Thankfully, Madi Davis, who opened for Sawyer, was a delight. Great singer, guitar and keyboard player. Loved her conversation between songs too. Sawyer could learn a lot from her style. I know he is a very shy guy, but if he wants to please his audience, I think he needs to open up..........a lot!

    Amazing, Wonderful, Spectacular, Unforgettable!!

by ASimpleWoman on 8/15/16Madison Live! - Covington

Sawyer Fredericks is an amazing 17-year-old talent. A winner of The Voice (Season 8), the youngest ever. I love his voice and music. His band (Chris, lead guitar; Art, base; & Bob, drums) is awesome. The show was off-the-wall wonderful. He is so real and puts so much emotion into his songs and performances. He really is, as Pharrell (his coach on The Voice) described, an old soul in a young body. Please, please go see this young spectacular artist perform if you get the chance! Love him!

THE GREATEST NEW TALENT THIS DECADE

by Nighthiker on 8/15/16Madison Live! - Covington

I have gone to see Sawyer twice. He is fantastic and I ADVISE all music lovers to go see this show. He can go as far as he wants to go in the music industry and if you go to one of his shows - you could be watching history. It could possibly be like going to see the Beatles on The Ed Sullivan Show or being at Woodstock, he is that good!! and he is " just 17 "-- The venues were small and it made a very intimate show. He is so gracious and he has done a meet and greet FREE at both the shows I attended.

    Sawyer disapoints

by Sawyerfan on 7/27/16Bethel Woods Center for the Arts - Bethel

I love his voice but the songs he sang were terrible. They did not showcase his voice at all. You couldn't understand the words and he was not clear when he spoke. The band was terrible. It was like watching unprofessional teenagers goofing around in their garage. I was a huge fan. He better make some changes and fast if he wants to survive. The concert was terrible.

This kid is not ready ... What a shame!

by oanitw on 7/27/16Bethel Woods Center for the Arts - Bethel

Sawyer has a good voice but could not be heard even in this small venue. His songs all have the same tonal quality and texture and for the first time ever, I left a concert early. I believe the show was improperly staged and the sound guy worked continuously to improve the volume and clarity but he could not improve this show. The VOICE did not prepare Sawyer for the realities of being a paid performer and entertainer which is the reason why I am writing this review. I think he needs to feature his voice to include songs that are more diverse than what he writes and make sure that his shows are staged properly. Hopefully he noted the empty seats at the end of the show at $37.50 a piece.

    SAWYER SHINES AT MERCURY LOUNGE!!!

by LittleTwiny on 10/5/15Mercury Lounge - New York

Sawyer Fredericks performance at the Mercury Lounge was the best performance I have ever seen!!! Sawyer's voice is amazing and you really hear how powerful it is with Mercury's acoustics. I loved the smaller venue...it felt so persomal. I cannot wait for Sawyer's return to the Mercury Lounge!
