Kim Simmons is an absolute fantastic talent!! Savoy Brown rocks!! One of the best shows I've seen in many a year.
Its been 45 years of ups and down for the band. But Kim Simmonds is performing with new found energy, and a great new lead vocalist/sax man(Joe). They mixed new and old, with more emphasis on the old. Kim sounds great, and the music still rocks.
At first I thought I was buying tickets for the amphi-theatre but when we were ushered into the bar area I realized the "backstage" show was in fact in the bar area. My boyfriend (whom I got the tix for because he loves the blues and it was a gift) was totally stoked and we both ended up having our first dance there, took pictures with Joe Whiting, the lead singer, and added yet another unforgettable evening to our memoirs.
Considering mostly new guys, they had the house rocking! Simmons has still got it!! The new singer hit some highs that hurt my throat! All and all a fun and enjoyable night
Kim is one of the best guitar players around The addition of a strong lead singer produces outstanding sound. These guys can play music.
One of the best shows I have seen in a long time. Kim played amazing! They all seemed to put 100 percent into their performance. They started sharply at 8 and played 2 sets! After the show Kim and the other members all came out for a meet and great. Kim signed autographs and took photos with everyone. It was a great experience and I would love to go see them again.
Savoy Brown put on a terrific 2+ hour show at The Rhythm Room in Phoenix. Their hard-driving blues performance took no prisoners. The sound at The Rhythm Room was perfect and had a very cosy atmosphere (it holds only about 300-400 patrons). Kim Simmons demonstrated a virtuoso talent that kept the crowd mesmerized.
Awesome!! The band was extremely tight and the 2 hour set was well mixed with the old and new.
I'm SOOOO glad that Johnny A. was the opener for this event. He was really fantastic, and I would absolutely pay to see him again. Savoy Brown was terrible. They were the worst washed up late 70's hair band that you could ever hope to see on a PBS baby boomer special. We left after their first two songs. Also, although my last experience at showcase live was great, this time our waitress was terrible. It took an hour for her to get the food to us, and she didn't apologize or take anything off our bill as compensation for our wait.
Had a great time. Both Johnny A and Savoy Brown were GREAT!
I wanted to see Johnny A. again after seeing him a few months ago. It was a bonus to have Savoy Brown there too, who I had seen about 35 years ago! The venue, Showcase Live is fantastic. My first time there. We had dinner right in the showroom, and then watched from the same seats. Good food, but expensive. Johnny A was phenomenal. He had a great band, extreme control of his guitar, and was actually funny, too! His set, being the opener, was too short. Savoy brown was different. They're still tight, but exhibited no control and planning as did Johnny A. And they could have at least used a sound check. The vocals were excellent, Kim Symonds guitar was fine (though sloppy after Johnny A) and the drummer was fine too. The bass player ruined the show. He was so loud that many times you could only hear the others an accompaniment to his sloppy bass. We had to leave about halfway through the set because it was too painful to be subjected to.
Kim Simmons has never lost his virtuosity! Me and my husband would to see him perform again hopefully in Los Angeles area. Our only regret is we forgot to bring our digital cam :( Kim was very accommodating to his fans. Kim even had time to meet, greet, sign memorabilla and pause for pictures. Overall Kim was awesome! Please come to LA!
Another great show by Kim Simmonds and Savoy BrowN
KIM SIMMONDS IS AN EXCEPTIONAL BLUES GUITARIST! SAVOY BROWN IS AN EXCELLANT BLUES AND ROCK & ROLL BAND. THEY BRING GREAT TALLENT AND PERSONALITY, I HIGHLY RECOMEND THEM!!!
Lead act Funky Knights just about ruined the night. They were bad. Lead singer for Savoy good but his voice doesn't project .
It was great. The concert was cozy and personable. He answered questions from the crowd. We sat down know one was in the way. He played great quitar. It was amazing the energy he has for a 60's fellow. I am definatly going again when he comes to town. Music was outstanding.
Kim Simmons reminded me why I loved Savoy Brown back in the 70s. Besides his excellent guitar work his love of playing made for an enjoyable evening. All the Savoy Brown favorites were covered as well as some nice new material. Kim's blues roots and influence were prominent and he can still make his guitars sing. He favored his white Gibson Flying V. The vocal work was strong and the sound clear. Glad to see Kim is still happy performing and producing some nice new material. This is a classic icon and a show worth catching.
On form. Very involved. The group performed with great enthusiasm.
Fantastic show! Went with a friend, Jimmy, who's from Milwaukee. He'd been to the previous Shank Hall before it burned down. Says this place is much better and if I go to anything here again to let him know. He said this was the best show he's ever seen. It was excellent! Simmonds played his heart out, really bent those strings, responded to the audience, respectful of all and just gave a hell of a show. Encore of what we asked for: Tell Mama. We had a seat 2nd row left center and had a blast.
