SAVE FERRIS IN CONCERT:

Ska punk octet Save Ferris took over airwaves in 1997 with a rowdy cover of '80s hit "Come on Eileen," and they've kept fans skanking over the years with their upbeat recordings and adrenaline-filled performances. The band brings a total party to the stage at their live shows, where fans cut a rug to the brassy horns, crunchy guitar riffs, and uptempo rhythms of favorites like "Goodbye" and "The World Is New." Frontwoman Monique Powell is the epicenter of the jubilation, dancing along to the beat and delivering her sultry vocals with a smile while fans sing along. Save Ferris continues to perform their infectious favorites with all the lively energy that earned them a diehard following in the first place, and ticket buyers can't get enough of the non-stop fun.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Save Ferris quickly caught on in mid-'90s scene of their native Orange County, CA, finding a home alongside ska punk contemporaries like No Doubt, Sublime, and Goldfinger. After a couple years of local gigging they independently released their 1996 EP Introducing Save Ferris, an auspicious debut that sold nearly 20,000 copies. The group scored a breakthrough in 1997 with hit singles "Come on Eileen" and "The World Is New," which helped their full-length debut It Means Everything achieve Gold certification. Following the tour for their sophomore album, 1999's Modified, internal friction lead to a hiatus which turned into a full-fledged breakup in 2003. Powell focused on her solo career during the '00s and made cameos on records by The Used, Lostprophets, and Hillary Duff. A refreshed Save Ferris lineup returned in 2013, attracting hometown fans to sold-out concerts at the El Rey and the Santa Monica Pier. In 2016 they co-headlined the Mexico City Ska Fest along with The Mighty Mighty Bosstones, and later that year they began crowdsourcing funds for their first recordings in over a decade. Save Ferris continues to bring their electric sound to venues across North America, and fans are glad to have their wild style back on the scene.

    Save Ferris + La Pobreska

by Tony Bagadonus on 11/21/22House of Blues Anaheim - Anaheim

La Pobreska is one of the best bands to please a wide variety of fans! I never knew ska could be so hardcore until seeing them. Heavy enough to rock the whole venue and keep the pit spinning all night, and melodic enough to keep my wife stoked on it. Bilingual lyrics create interest for all of SoCal. La Pobreska is a hard act to follow but Monique from Save Ferris still has a great voice and rocking out as hard as she was 20 years ago!

    Must See Show

by Party Monkey on 11/21/22House of Blues Anaheim - Anaheim

Let's start off by saying House of Blues does a great job of maintaining a clean, well decor venue. So far everytime I visited the staff is professional and friendly. That's awesome because that is hard to come across nowadays. Save Ferris (Monique) is an all around fun, entertaining, goofy and sexy performer. If you enjoy Ska music she is a must see! Her and her band do an amazing job!

    VIP not worth it

by Golden owl 13 on 11/21/22House of Blues Anaheim - Anaheim

Show was great overall bands were absolutely awesome… VIP was NOT worth the money paid at all. For that price per ticket I expected better view and seating arrangement even those who paid extra to sit closer had their view obscured by those who paid the most to sit front row. Lounge area standing room only because those who weren’t attending show got to reserve all the seating in the lounge area… drinks were whatever, food was mediocre, and seating in VIP was Bunched so close together it was hard not elbowing the person next to you just to get out of your stool seat (stool seating too really! So super uncomfortable for $125+ a pop-and Barely any elbow room) also there was plastic in my food, we ordered chicken tenders and fries and biting into the second tender a long piece of clear plastic came out of it. The first server offered to replace it and just took it away without anything further, the other server who assisted us initially came to bring us the check and was never aware of the incident until we told her and she apologized and offered to comp the dish. We were told all VIP gets 10% off food but during the band set we didn’t notice the discount wasn’t added for the other items we ordered until the next morning when my friend checked her receipt and I checked mine from the lounge area neither of us got a discount. Due to seating discomfort we ending up standing at the far edge near the stage with our view still slightly obscured by those trying to stand up to see better from the more pricier vip seating areas that were 150+ per person. Glad I didn’t try paying that seeing as they too were struggling to see. All in all never doing VIP again at HOB anaheim def not worth all the money that was forked out for it to supposedly “get a better experience”

    Amazing Talent

by MsCHerie on 3/29/17House of Blues Anaheim - Anaheim

Save Ferris was amazing. Will not do House of Blues General Admission again. Standing for hours and crowded in too tight to move. Don't like the format. And then $75 per person to go sit on the balcony? Ridiculous. SAVE FERRIS is in House of BLues Anaheim is OUT!

    Save Ferris is AMAZING!

    by MandyMae007 on 3/21/17Tractor Tavern - Ballard

So much energy and Monique sounded amazing! The band played their hearts out and the crowd was eating it up. Danced and sang along to every song the entire set! Also enjoyed their opening act, Vista Kicks.

In between song was the only time you could hear the singer. She kept the microphone as far away from her mouth as possible when the sound booth tried to turn up the volume it was just filled with feedback.

    Save Ferris @Brighton Music Hall

by markfont on 3/8/17Brighton Music Hall - Boston

I enjoyed this show but clearly there were some issues. Monique came out and immediately it was hard to hear her and I was standing right in front of the speakers not far off the stage. After the first song she made as passing comment about her voice being raspy from a decade of cigars and coke. I think this was a failed attempt at dismissing a voice problem. I think the issue of not hearing her was an attempt to mask the issue with her relying on backup singers and the crowd to carry her. Even after numerous comments by the crowd there was no improvement. It was unfortunate as the band sounded great and Monique herself had plenty of energy on the stage but you just couldn't hear her distinct voice. I hope she gets better!

The energy was high and the band sounded great. It was hard to hear the vocals at times but Monique sang her heart out! The set list was incredible, only wish they played longer.
