About

With her captivating voice and richly detailed songwriting, Sarah Jarosz has emerged as one of the most compelling musicians of her generation. A four-time Grammy Award-winner and ten-time nominee at the age of 30, the Texas native started singing as a young girl and became an accomplished multi-instrumentalist by her early teens. After releasing her full-length debut Song Up in Her Head at 18-years-old, she went on to deliver such critically lauded albums as Follow Me Down, Build Me Up From Bones, and Undercurrent, in addition to joining forces with Sara Watkins and Aoife ODonovan to form the acclaimed folk trio Im With Her.

Great concert but Birchemere needs improvement

by hawkc on 9/28/13Birchmere - Alexandria

Sarah J was awesome. A great mix of songs from her prior work and her recent release. Her capabilities across a range of instruments is really remarkable. But the Birchemere needs to get away from its old business model -- force people to show up at 5 pm to wait an hour drinking $7.50 beers and eating small baskets of stale nachos, also $7.50. Rush in at 6 and then wait another 90 minutes for the show. The food and drinks inside weren't bad, just overpriced. I'd pay a premium for an assigned seat that I can show up and sit in at 715.

Sara Jarosz - Lived up to Lofty Expectations

by Phenixrizng on 9/17/13The Sinclair - Cambridge

What a great show! Sarah & her acompanying "string men" Nat on the Cello & Alex Hargreaves on the violin performed wonderfully! Sarah's voice is the real & authentic, I was very impressed that she sounded as good, if not better in a live venue as on her recordings - for such a young women she delivered a performance of a seasoned veteran. She played music from her prior recordings and some from her album being released this week. Most I had heard & loved, the new songs sounded great. I will be adding them to my ipod. In general, I am not a bluegrass fanatic, I like the music and enjoy listening now & again, I love Sarah's music - I have a feeling she could be a " cross-over" artist.

I had immense fun listening to the talented Sarah Jarosz in Portland! Her voice is beautiful live as well and she is so amazing with all the instruments she pulls out on stage. I would go see her again in a heartbeat and recommend it to anyone who wants to be wowed by a wonderfully talented musician.

    Sarah Jarosz Is Outstanding

by OldJoel on 8/8/12Aladdin Theater - Portland

Had a great time at the Aladdin Theater. The opening performer, Tatiana Hargreaves, was a surprise treat. Sarah and her group are wonderful. I've often wondered how the three of them got together. It's an odd combination of Sarah and her instruments/vocals accompanied by a cello and a violin/fiddle. It REALLY works!!

    Sarah Jarosz- WOW

by Mersejohn on 7/17/12Hippodrome - Charleston

Preface: Not a huge bluegrass fan and normally don't get it right when I go to a concert purely on a newpaper review and no actual listening experience. This past Saturday in Charleston, SC, my wife and I took a chance going to see Sarah Jarosz. The result: What a wonderful surprise and gift. She is an Incredible muscian (along with excellent accompanists for this performance), song writer and singer with a low key and sincere, but infectious enthusiasm for and approach to the music and audience- and only 21! If she had only played her own songs, we would have floated home with enjoyment, but her interpretation of others (Dylan, Decembrists) is marvelous also. We can't wait to see her perform again- hopefully next summer between her college studies- and likely at a bigger venue. In the meantime, we will continue to enjoy her two CDs. Sarah Jarosz is not to be missed!

    Soon to be a superstar!

by ShadyGrove on 8/28/11Duck Room at Blueberry Hill - St Louis

Sarah Jarosz is the real deal. A gifted songwriter. A powerful voice and a musical virtuoso that shakes the feet, weakens the knees and boggles the mind. Her side musicians are as young and almost as talented as she is. The Duckroom was a great venue to see this performance. It will be a long time before anyone gets to see Sarah Jarosz in such an intimate setting again.

Great original songs -- flawless performance!

by Stringfan on 8/6/11Duck Room at Blueberry Hill - St Louis

I heard Sarah on World Cafe and bought her CD's because I was intrigued by the fact she just produced her latest Cd at the age of 20. Her voice reminded me of Gillian Welch. I then found she was visiting a venue near me and bought tickets. Nothing prepared me for the musical experience that would bring! Her songs sound as good live as on the Cd. Her instrumentalists, Nathaniel Smith and Alex Hargraves, complimented her with their mind-boggling technical prowess. Virtuosi outside the classical range. Nathaniel approaches the cello in a most exciting and engaging way, you can harldly take your eyes off of him. This young lady can write a beautiful song and then deliver it to a live crowd with the same strength as the recorded cuts...unbelievable! My thoughts turned to Joni Mitchell and Lyle Lovett, two songwriters I dearly love. She appeals to a wide range of ages-- the crowd was composed of young adults to retorted and we all gave her a most enthusiastic response because she and Alex and Nathaniel were astounding. Thank you, Sarah!

by ACinSTL on 8/6/11Duck Room at Blueberry Hill - St Louis

Sarah Jarosz is an incredibly talented musician, and her band mates are equally amazing. They rocked the Duck Room at Blueberry Hill in St Louis Thursday night. It was so refreshing to see a group of young musicians love the music and love sharing it with an audience. Go see them!

    Sarah Jarosz

by Anonymous on 8/5/11The Record Bar - Kansas City

She is refreshing with her original style. Along with her two players, they combine their talents in a refreshing creation of lyrics, melodies, and improvisation. Sarah needs to keep writing to give to us new songs that allow us to share her unique perspective on lifes' experiences. Excellent show. The songs needed to be longer-- I didn't want them to end.
