SA Symphony Launches 70th Anniversary Season
by Skylight7 on 9/20/09Majestic Theatre San Antonio - San AntonioThe opening performance of the San Antonio Symphony proved that it is not only alive, but has a good, strong heartbeat. Beginning with Gil Shaham bringing a lyrical quality to Barber's Concerto for Violin and Orchestra, the orchestra - especially the strings - played with a sense of accomplished discipline. The second half of the evening was given over to glorious excess with the performance of Carmina Burana, employing no less than five full choirs placed across the back of the stage and throughout the theater, with the result that one was immersed in sound and drama. Congratulations to all responsible for this wonderful evening of music - musicians, singers, soloists, and conductor Ken-David Masur. It sets the bar high for the rest of the season.
