San Antonio Spurs History
In the summer of 1973, a group of local investors leased the Dallas Chaparrals and relocated the team to San Antonio. Midway through their first season there, the group purchased the team outright, and the Spurs have been a mainstay in San Antonio culture ever since. The Silver and Black played their first three seasons in the ABA before joining the NBA in the summer of 1976, along with the Nets, Nuggets and Pacers.
Over the last 25 years, the Spurshave enjoyed a tremendous amount of success. Since the 1997–98 season, Tim Duncan's rookie season, the Spurs have captured five NBA Championships and put together one of the best regular season winning percentages of any team in the four major sports. During that time, San Antonio has posted the NBA's best record five times (1998–99, 2000–01, 2002–03, 2011–12, and 2013–14) and has won 13 division titles.
The Spurs’ record during that span ranks as the best 21-year run of any team in NBA history. The team’s success from 2002 to 2016 was largely thanks to the Big Three: Tim Duncan, Tony Parker and Manu Ginóbili. Together, they led the Spurs to four NBA championships (2003, 2005, 2007, 2014) and are one of the most successful trios in NBA history, winning 575 regular-season games and 126 postseason games together.
The 2023–24 team includes 13 players from last season and features six of San Antonio’s first-round draft picks from the last five years. Keldon Johnson returns for his fifth season after leading the team in scoring last year, and Devin Vassell enters his fourth (coming off a career-year after averaging 18.5 points). Meanwhile, 2023’s No. 1 overall draft pick Victor Wembanyama will make his NBA debut this season.
The Spurs are led by head coach Gregg Popovich, who has been at the helm for over 25 seasons. The longest-tenured coach with the same team in all four major professional sports, Popovich holds the third-best winning percentage in NBA history (.689, 1,197-541). His 1,300-plus victories with the Spurs rank first all-time in NBA history for most wins with one team. Popovich's 170-plus playoff wins rank third in NBA history (behind Phil Jackson and Pat Riley) and his playoff career winning percentage is fourth-best in league history.

Of course the only thing that could of made the night better, would have been if the Spurs had won the game. But overall they played very well and the game was great, along with the atmosphere. Win or lose, I always love going to a Spurs game : )
The Spurs did not win as expected since Tony and Tim were back. Hopefully Jazz won't be a trouble.Spurs will win again this year.
Very dissappointd with the experience. The game was boring and the seats are overpriced.
THe game experience was amazing even though the Spurs lost :( Definably recommend getting the food package with the tickets
being from el paso, tx and traveling to san antonio to see the spurs play live was the best thing ever.
The game was great! I loved the complimentary food as well.
The tickets were a great deal, and the game was incredible.
Great game. Dallas team getting old and cant play as well as before. Great that our team clicked even without Tony and TIm.
The game itself and AT&T center were fine. What got a little annoying was the nonstop barrage of cursing and yelling from a few fans around me. I am a huge sports fan so I understand cheering for your team but cursing and just being obnoxious are a different story. It may have been better in the more expensive seats. Most of the fans were perfectly fine but there were a few that ruined the experience.
The game was AWESOME. The announcing still leaves something to be desired. You can't just leave it up to the crowd to get themselves fired up - although, I don't have a problem staying FIRED up for the Spurs. Ever since the AT & T center made the change from Stan Kelly to this new person, there have been issues. Even with the announcing issues, I still go to a Spurs game as often as possible. Since I live in Austin, it's not as frequent as I would like.
What a blow-out. I was so proud of the new Spurs and they couldn't have played any better or harder than they did. I know that Tim and Tony were as proud too. Of course, beating Dallas made it worth the price of our ticket. We had family here from Oregon (they are avid Spurs fans) and they had a wonderful time yelling for our boys. Let's hope this is a good omen for our team and we can keep up the great playing that they did last night.
The game and atat center was awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The entertainment during the game (not just the game itself) was really cool and fun to watch.
Great game! Tons of fun & the seats were GrEaT!! :]] Will be going back to cheer on the SPURS again, soon!!
we enjoyd all in the ATT Center, also the game and how Parker, Jefferson, Duncan played They´re play as a champions!!
Enjoyed the game tremendously. Seats were GREAT!!! It was my father-in-law's birthday celebration and he loved the game. It was a great gift for him. Big Spurs fan
Good start to the Spurs season. Lots of energy and excitement. Tim Duncan was great, as usual. The new guys are great addition to the team. Ready to win a 5th championship. GO SPURS GO!!!!!!!!
