About

Lebanese-Palestinian-Syrian-Italian-American, born in Oakland, California, Sammy Obeid is best known for his 1,001 day streak of consecutive comedy performances. It began on December 26th, 2010, and concluded on September 21st, 2013- four days after an appearance on TBS's Conan. Breaking the old world record on Day 731, Sammy set the new one at 1,001 Arabian Nights of Comedy.

Over the course of the streak, he appeared on NBC's America's Got Talent and advanced to the Las Vegas round, and became the first comedian to perform on The Food Network in Throwdown with Bobby Flay. Splitsider conducted an extensive interview with him entering the home stretch. LA Weekly praised Sammy's "sheer force of will" in performance and lifestyle, and LA Mag recommended his show highly. He was profiled in TIME Magazine, followed soon after by an article in the New York Times. Published on his final day, it describes his material as "full of wordplay" and "clever misdirection."

Chunks of his streak were spent as youngest member of both the CoExist Comedy and Axis of Evil: New Generation national tours. Capping the streak, his debut album, Get Funny or Die Trying, was named a Best Comedy Album of 2013 by iTunes.

Sammy has founded his own comedy enterprise, KO Comedy, and enjoys giving unsolicited advice on his blog

  • He's got balls and is an original

Sammy Obeid has a great play on words with entendres, math jokes (I e. isosceles), current events and speaking truth to power in a brutally honest and real way. A millennial after my own heart, he's articulate and doesn't respond to heckler's angry, he checks them in a smart way that's not mean or insulting. Singapore has banned/censored him - and that is what countries do that don't have democracy. For a man from Fremont, I think he's a fabulous comedian and I wish someone with principles like him, much joy, good health and success!

  • Very funny, quick witted & wicked smart!

If you would’ve told me a comedian would do math jokes and I would find them legitimately funny I would’ve thought that wasn’t possible, but Sammy is so funny talking about math. He’s crazy good at puns & his crowd work is pretty amazing. A very entertaining evening will definitely go again.

  • Not Comedy

by DK on 12/31/24Cobb's Comedy Club - San FranciscoRating: 2 out of 5

Sammy's show was a lecture on Palestine. It left me upset. It was not a good comedy show. It's not a funny topic and a night I needed to forget about the cares of the world ended up being a gross disappointment. This was a bait and switch on the part of the "comic."I don't consider it a fair exchange of value and I do not recommend.

Amazing show! Happy to follow and support a Palestinian, sad that we’re at a point where comedy is the tool we have to resort to in order to spread awareness. Sammy did an amazing job’s I would def go for another show N

  • Amazing show!

by Soso K on 11/26/24Punch Line Houston - HoustonRating: 5 out of 5

Amazing improv and some of the wittiest, most entertaining humor I’ve seen on stage! I loved how it felt more like a conversation with the audience than a traditional stand-up show. The interactive vibe made us all feel like we were just hanging out with friends in a cozy living room. Highly recommend!

  • Intelligent, Hilarious, & Heartfelt: Hits All Notes

I had an amazing time at the stand-up comedy show! Sammy’s was a perfect blend of intelligence and humor, managing to tackle relevant topics while keeping the audience engaged. It's not easy to be both clean and funny, but he nailed it, offering comedy that was not only entertaining but also thought-provoking and insightful. The opening comics were fantastic as well. It’s refreshing to see a comedian who can speak truth to power without being tone-deaf, and this show did just that—delivering comedy that's both hilarious and meaningful. It’s rare to hear such a grounded, authentic perspective in today’s world, and it’s exactly the kind of comedy (and heavy doses of truth) we need right now. Big kudos to Sammy for tackling real issues with humor and heart. The way he connected with the audience was genuine and powerful. I also have to mention Moamer, his energy was infectious, and he definitely brought the crowd to life. I’ll definitely be coming back for more. If you're looking for a night of laughter that also gets you thinking, this is a show you don’t want to miss wherever he is. Highly recommend!
