Sam Smith has been captivating audiences with their unique high tenor since first appearing as the ebullient vocalist on Disclosure’s 2012 breakout single “Latch.” At only 22, the London-born singer instantly became one of the UK’s greatest pop exports after releasing their first album, In the Lonely Hour (2014), which debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 album chart and went on to achieve platinum certification five times over in the U.S. The album also earned Smith four Grammys, including Song of the Year and Record of the Year (for the Darkchild remix of “Stay with Me”), as well as Best New Artist. Smith then co-wrote and performed the opening theme “Writing’s on the Wall” for the 2015 James Bond film Spectre, which earned them an Academy Award. Smith’s 2017 sophomore album The Thrill of It All cemented their place at pop music’s forefront, opening atop the Billboard 200, while 2020’s Love Goes boasted collaborations with genre-leading contemporaries like Calvin Harris, Normani, Burna Boy and Demi Lovato. In 2023, Smith released their fourth full-length, Gloria, featuring the Grammy-winning Kim Petras duet, “Unholy,” which became the singer’s first No. 1 single on the Billboard Hot 100 — and the first song by an openly non-binary artist and transgender artist, respectively, to reach the chart’s top spot.

The only unfortunate part of my experience is that apparently the venue across the street also had a concert that night so it took me an hour and a half to get to the parking lot after I got off the freeway. Arrived as the opening act was wrapping up so didn’t miss any of Sam’s performance. Also (and this is not a negative in MY book) the last 30 minutes or so of the show is VERY racy so keep that in mind if you’re bringing younger kids. I mean his song is called Unholy and if you’ve seen the music video you’ll know what to expect. He didn’t sing my favorite song Palace, but other than that, his show was all that I’d hoped it would be!

by Suz on 9/3/23Rating: 5 out of 5Sam Smith was awesome. Glad he did a lot of his old songs. I admire his new attitude and confidence, but I miss the old Sam. 🤷♀️ The venue itself ( Forum) was great! Quick to get into the venue. Lots of food and bar stations which meant shorter lines….and my personal favorite is actually having several areas throughout the venue to sit, eat, drink or all threw before our event. Will definitely look for more concerts to attend at the Forum.
