Sacramento Kings History
The Sacramento Kings' lineage traces to Rochester, New York, where they played under four names, including the Royals, for 12 years (1945–57). Led by Hall of Famers Bob Davies, Bobby Wanzer and Arnie Risen, the team defeated the New York Knicks to win the NBA championship in 1951, the highlight of a seven-year run in the playoffs.
The Royals moved to Cincinnati for the 1957–58 season and added local college standout Oscar Robertson in 1960. Led by the "Big O," they advanced to the division finals in the 1962–63 and 1963–64 seasons, with the second year featuring contributions from Rookie of the Year Jerry Lucas.
After a five-year run of futility in the late 1960s and early '70s, the team relocated to Kansas City, adopting the name the Kings because the city's MLB team was named the Royals. For three years, the franchise divided its home games between Kansas City and Omaha, Nebraska, and were known as the Kansas City-Omaha Kings. Led by Coach of the Year Phil Johnson, they made the playoffs in 1974–75. In the 10 seasons that followed as the Kansas City Kings, the team made the playoffs four times, most memorably in 1980–81 behind guard Otis Birdsong.
The franchise relocated to Sacramento in 1985, but failed to post a winning record until the lockout-shortened 1998–99 season, when a team led by Chris Webber, Vlade Divac, Vernon Maxwell, Scot Pollard, and Jon Barry went 27-23. It was the first of eight consecutive seasons in the playoffs, highlighted by a trip to the 2002 Conference Finals.
In 2023, under new coach Mike Brown and All-Stars Domantas Sabonis and De’Aaron Fox, the Kings advanced to the playoffs, ultimately losing in the first round to reigning NBA champions the Golden State Warriors in a close seven-game series. Brown was named the 2022–23 season’s Coach of the Year, while Fox collected the league’s first Clutch Player of the Year Award.

Kings game never disappoint! Great game, atmosphere, and awesome stadium!!
Exciting, Thrilling game! Happy to see my first time the beam being lit!
The game is awesome. Went to double overtime. My husband and I had a great experience.
What a great time Ticketmaster makes it supper easy!! Thank you.
We sat in a row that had a beam of light constantly blinding us. I brought cash but was not allowed to use cash anywhere. Cash is legal currency and should never be denied, period!!
Limited details except the bag policy was only enforced for certain fans
Loved the event. Wife is a Celtics fan and they won so she went home happy. A great place to forget about life for a few hours.
The arena was very clean throughout. Bathrooms were cleaned regularly. Service people were nice and greeted you with a smile.
Was a wonderful experience. It was easy to use all things
the crowd was very vibrant and the experience was incredible
We had a great time at the Kings Game. Golden 1 Center is an amazing venue with kind and hospitable staff. Our seats were comfortable with a clear view of the action. Going to Kings Games is rare for us (tickets can be pretty pricey), but we had a wonderful experience and would love to go again sometime.
Had a great time with my family at the Sacramento Kings game! Not only was the entire staff friendly, from outside crews, to concession stand employees and everyone in between. Prices were better than reasonable even for a family of five. I highly recommend attending a Kings game at the Golden 1 center and to be honest there isn’t a bad seat in the house!
Wonderful time! In spite of the Warriors taking the loss, we had a great time. The online ticket app was my first time using it. Worked like a dream. Whew
My Cavaliers turned in a stinker of a game in Sactown but I have to give credit to the Customer Service team. I was at the game with a Phish phriend who started having some combo of PTSD and vertigo as we were ascending the stairs to our upper level seats. She'd had a traumatic experience at the 10/17/21 Phish show at the Chase Arena in San Francisco (the one were a crazy guy jumped from the upper level and died), which occurred near her that night. She apparently hadn't been in the upper level of an arena since then, so it freaked her out. The Customer Service desk was very nice about it and relocated us to seats in row C, which were much better for her even though it was still in the upper deck. I like Golden One Arena a lot, it is a classy venue.
It was a “nail bitter” but they needed the losing streak to end!!! Great game!! Beam lite!!!
I will never buy tickets for the upper level 2 again!! The seats are not comfortable due to how steep it is up there. If you’re afraid of heights I def don’t recommend. There’s zero access to an entrance/exit on the farthest row of 211, 213 etc. so bring the elderly you have to narrowly go up and down the stairs. I don’t know why they built it this way. And I called to ask if I could exchange or get my $ and they said NO!
Had a wonderful time taking my Father in Law to the Golden 1 Center for the first time. They played the Lakes and won in OT. What a wonderful experience thank you.
The event staff located throughout the building were very helpful in helping me find my seat.
It was my first time visiting Golden1 Center, I really enjoyed watching the Lakers play the Kings. The staff were friendly and helpful and concessions were quick and easy. The staff were also really attentive and accommodating to my family as we had our toddler, so passing through metal detectors they made sure we were able to stay together. It was a really intense game and was a lot of fun for my whole family and kings fans were friendly and nice toward us even though we were cheering for the lakers. This created a positive atmosphere and never felt threatening or intimidating, everyone just had a good time. This venue, though its large is able to be accessed easily and feels very welcoming, parking was convenient and getting to the location is convenient as well being located by major freeways, I would definitely attend another NBA game here.
