About

Ryan Humbert in Concert

Northeast Ohio native Ryan Humbert has always been something of an old soul, yet his uplifting concerts reveal an irrepressible youthful spirit. Though he's recorded in Nashville and shared stages with big names like Train, Chris Isaak, Third Eye Blind, The Zac Brown Band, Elvis Costello, and Foreigner, he's continued to stay true to his Ohio roots – building a loyal, local fan base with his dynamic mix of rock, pop, and Americana.

As a child, Humbert was drawn to his father's CD collection, gravitating toward iconic singer-songwriters like Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen, Emmylou Harris, and Lucinda Williams. He eventually pursued his own music career, playing shows in the Akron-Canton area before heading to Nashville to record his 2008 debut album, ‘Old Souls, New Shoes,' with help from members of the Dixie Chicks, Counting Crows, and The Black Crowes. In 2018, he would celebrate that album's 10th anniversary with a newly remastered deluxe edition, and a major concert in Canton featuring a string quartet.

Throughout the preceding decade, Humbert released two more albums, 2012's ‘Sometimes the Game Plays You,' a heartfelt folk-pop set, and 2014's introspective ‘Half Way Home.' Outside of his solo releases, he wrote and produced songs for local artists like Tracey Thomas, and sang in his own honky-tonk band, Shooter Sharp & The Shootouts. He also started hosting the Sunday morning show ‘Shooter Sharp's Americana Roundup' for Akron/Canton and Youngstown radio stations, and has organized several events, concerts, and fundraisers throughout the region.

By far his most popular musical and local fundraising event has been the annual Ryan Humbert Holiday Extravaganza. In 2018, he returned with his 10th extravaganza, hosted at the Akron Civic Theatre, alongside longtime singing partner Emily Bates and a 12-piece big band. It's at these big, joyous events that Humbert truly shines, showcasing his candidness, charisma, and anthemic chops in the name of a good time and a good cause.

Ryan Humbert was very good. The best part was the orchestra playing big band music. Loved being on stage right in front of them.
