    LOVED EVERY MINUTE OF IT!

by TNPassiflora on 8/25/15Tennessee Theatre - Knoxville

I loved every minute of this show! Ry Cooder, Sharon White, & Ricky Skaggs took us on a wonderful trip in time to the days when country music was real and right and harmonius! Buck White was a standout on the piano! All of the songs were pre-1940s and all were beautifully done, so if you enjoy old country like Hank Williams, Hank Snow, the Louvin Brothers, you will love it! Favorites for me were "Hold Whatcha Got" and the Blind Alfred Reed tune, "You Must Unfold."

    The Ricky Skaggs Family show

    by Medic59 on 8/24/15Tennessee Theater - Knoxville

Ry Cooder should have just been mentioned as a band member. Ry hardly played other than background. Too much gospel. Ricky is a very talented musician, but this show should have been billed "Ricky Skaggs and the White Family"

    "Niche" show, but superbly filled.

by blaytonj on 7/26/15Uptown Theater - Kansas City

This was a show not typical for a lot of audiences, which was reflected by the small turnout (it also was competing with a Royals home game on a nice evening, though). Ry Cooder called this the "legacy express" (and promised to eat a bug if it wasn't). No need for the bug. It was also a musicianship express. This was true "roots" music, touching on gospel, country, blues, bluegrass, and a little of everything. Ry Cooder and Ricky Skaggs are Institution-Grade musicians --- I still sit in awe of the picking and sliding and such. Sharon White sings like an angel (so does her sister), and her daddy, Buck White, is magic on the piano. Old hymns and obscure early country tunes are not everybody's cup of cider, but it was the kind of show you like, if you like that kind of show. *grin*

    Fantastic concert by musical legends

by ksokie on 7/24/15Uptown Theater - Kansas City

This was an amazing show by musical legends. A very comfortable show that showcased many old country, bluegrass standards and a few of the artists hits. Ricky Skaggs was great as always (we have seen him before). We were surprised that Buck White and Cheryl White were with Sharon White - and they added a lot to the concert. At 84, Buck White did a great job on the piano for the whole show. Even though Ry Cooder's name was listed first, he did a great job fitting in with the group and the song selections. We hope someday to enjoy a Ry Cooder concert featuring his blue's songs, but none of those songs were played at this concert which was focused on bluegrass and country. We could have listened to this ensemble all night long - except for the uncomfortable folding chairs in the main floor area.

    A great night

Excellent musicianship in a wonderful venue. We went to the show knowing these players from other projects. Found the choice of material surprisingly delightful

    Down-home, toe-tapping, musical night!

by PKMO on 7/24/15Uptown Theater - Kansas City

We enjoyed the musical ramble down memory lane, although, they performed many old bluegrass/gospel songs that I do not remember. I loved that they attributed the author or main performers of the songs. Wonderful music and performers. It was particularly delightful to see Mr Buck White having such a great time on the grand piano at his 84 years of age! Loved the little personal stories too. Would've loved a few more songs. The Uptown Theater in KC is a great place to enjoy an up-close musical event. However, the folding chairs are too close to be very comfortable, especially with no arm rests to somewhat separate the seats. Thankfully, our seats were at least padded.

    Refreshing

Nice to hear music from my roots. I could actually understand the lyrics and the music itself was just plain old good music.
