RUSSIAN CIRCLES IN CONCERT:

If the apocalypse is indeed coming, instrumental post-rock outfit Russian Circles is the perfect group to soundtrack its arrival. The trio's entrancingly heavy sound and textured compositions conjure up images of primordial ooze and continental drift, treating listeners to an immersive sonic experience that transcends time and place. The searing guitars and bombastic drums of tracks like "Deficit" and "Enter" make the moments of softness in the band's music all the more beautiful, and it's this interplay of heavy and light elements that gives their live shows such dynamic energy. Ticket buyers looking for a mind-blowing concert experience look no further: Russian Circles's unforgettable sets on tour bear all the markings of an earth-shattering event.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Chicago-based instrumental rock group Russian Circles was formed in 2004 by guitarist Mike Sullivan, bassist Colin DeKuiper, and drummer Dave Turncrantz. The trio released a self-titled EP that same year, and in 2006 they released their debut full-length album Enter to positive reviews. Turncrantz left the band shortly after the album's release and was replaced by drummer Brian Cook, who made his recording debut with Russian Circles on their 2008 sophomore album Station. In 2009 the new lineup hit the road on tour, performing at summer festivals like Bonnaroo before releasing their third album Geneva in the fall to a No. 24 position on Billboard's Heatseekers chart -- an impressive feat for an experimental group. Since then they've released two more critically acclaimed albums, toured the world with bands like Deafheaven and Chelsea Wolfe, and earned a reputation as a must-see live act with their heavy-hitting live shows.

    Russian Circles

by maiko12 on 12/14/14Music Hall of Williamsburg - Brooklyn

What a great concert. The band puts off really mysterious vibes, and doesn't say a single word the whole performance, but obviously takes their music very seriously. The crowd had a great time. Super heavy, super thoughtful band. Would definitely see again

    Amazing 3 piece band.

by SpiralTool on 2/24/14Bowery Ballroom - New York

I've seen this band 4 times now. They're a hardworking band that make an unbelievable amount of sound for a 3 piece band. Some of the songs can be very dynamic starting out slow and getting very fast and loud. Other tunes drive hard throughout. Highly recommend checking this band out. I drive 2 hours (one way) to go see this band! If they play in your town, at $15 a ticket what do you have to loose!

    Impressive

    by WillowTree2 on 3/19/13The Fillmore - Charlotte

These guys came out with all lights down except one, basically filling the stage with shadows. Played an amazing set, high energy music, never said a word to the audience. Would pay to see them again.

Russian Circles was a great experience

The small venue at the Riot Room made the show even more memorable. I got up close and it was a terrific experience... it was super hot though!

    Great Music!

by Codycola92 on 7/3/12El Rey Theatre - Los Angeles

Russian Circles were amazing! There music is heavy and they are talented musicians. They put on a great show. I didn't even really listen to their music before I saw them live so I was all fresh ears to them. By the end of their set I was a fan!

    An amazing experience.

Simply put, every band on the bill was spot on, but of course Russian Circles were the absolute highlight. Such energy and musicianship is hard to come by.

Russian Circles - This Generation's Lords Of Lush

by Rissa666 on 7/2/12El Rey Theatre - Los Angeles

Well, it has been many years of fervently waiting to see Russian Circles perform live. It was more than worth the wait. The heart the opening bands had were suiting preparation for the focused, fluid, and and outrageously monstrous precision the trio shared with us. The omitted distraction from flashy lighting or projections was quite a compliment to their presentation. Only a few moments of observation went into a blur, for my psyche melted into the brilliance I was hearing. Everything they were emanating was much to swallow. I will never forget their performance and I cannot wait to catch them again. Excellent job gentlemen!!

This is an amazing band through speakers. One of my favorites. But when you hear these songs live, it's like hearing them for the first time. An amazing set, I can't believe this one guy is upset about the crowd. Were you even listening to the band? Not fair to write a negative review of a band based on the crowd at a particular venue, bringing down the rating and discouraging others from listening. Just doesn't seem fair. And the other guy had nothing but praise but only gave 4 stars? Cool if you don't agree, but at least tell us why! I'm curious as to why others can't see the pure brilliance of these guys. Please come back to Atlanta soon!!!

    Gold in Silverlake

by LoSim on 10/7/11Echoplex - Los Angeles

Club was packed and the show was amazing. They played a long, intense set with almost no breaks between songs -- had the crowd rolling.

    The crowd was really lame.

by Granteralus on 11/10/10Riot Room - Kansas City

The band left early because the crowd was so lame. Hipsters are the worst.
