About

Hailing from Birmingham, Alabama, Roy started his comedy career in 1999 at the age of 19 while attending Florida A&M University.  Roy's comedy crosses all races and cultural lines, which has allowed Roy to work with an array of comedians ranging from D.L. Hughley, Ron White, Monique, Bill Engvall, and Katt Williams.  In a 2009 piece ‘Entertainment Weekly' described Roy's comedy as "charismatic crankiness".

In October of 2006 Roy made his network television debut on Late Night with David Letterman.  In 2008 Roy appeared on HBO's historic Def Comedy Jam, and this summer was selected by America as one of the top three finalists on The Last Comic Standing on NBC.

Roy is an online video blog correspondent for "The Soup" on E! Network. He is also a freelance writer for a variety of morning shows, and his prank calls can now be heard on more than 40 national radio shows, including Jamie Foxx's Foxxhole Radio on Sirius/XM Satellite Radio.

Roy appeared at the 2006 Montreal Just for Laughs Comedy Festival in the "New Faces Showcase" where critics awarded him top honors.  The Hollywood Reporter called Roy a "standout" among all the New Faces of 2006.  The Montreal Gazette said, "Roy Wood Jr. gives tremendous show" taking "the top spot".  Later that year he performed at the Las Vegas Comedy Festival.  In 2009, Roy appeared on the Bob and Tom Radio Show: The Comedy Tour a one-hour special, which aired on Comedy Central.

In 2002, Roy earned a slot as one of ten national finalists in Comedy Central's Laugh Riots competition in Los Angeles.  In March 2003, Roy was selected for Star Search on CBS where he advanced to the semi-finals.  He has also appeared on It's Showtime at the Apollo, Live in Hollywood and the 2005 season of Comedy Central's Premium Blend and BET's Comic View. Roy has also performed on The Late, Late Show with Craig Ferguson and BBC America's The World Stand Up, which was taped in London.

He has recorded three nationally-released prank call CD's: My Momma Made Me Wear This (2003), Confessions of a High School Bench Warmer (2005) and I'll Slap You to Sleep! (2009).

    I always enjoy Roy Wood!

by Kitty on 1/30/24Old National Centre - Indianapolis

I thought he was headlining, had not idea it was a team effort. Still enjoyed. Atmosphere was relaxed. Old National is my preferred venue in Indianapolis.

    Awesome show!

by Alyssa on 1/30/24Old National Centre - Indianapolis

The Q&A portion with the audience made the show feel like a really special, personalized experience.

Good, but hard to hear in the balcony

by Jdude on 1/29/24Michigan Theater - Ann Arbor

The exho in the balcony madecit extreamly hard to catch all the jokes and commentary. The seats in the Michigan theater are extreamly uncomfortable.

Loved the format of the show. Innovative tag team effort that was both hilarious and thought provoking. Much needed for healing during these times.

    Excellent Show

by BW on 1/29/24Michigan Theater - Ann Arbor

Roy Wood Jr. and Jordan Klepper are as great live as they are on the Daily Show. They have great chemistry with each other and with the audience. Would recommend.

    great show!

by Jenn on 1/29/24Michigan Theater - Ann Arbor

I liked that this show was part stand-up (veiled as a conversation in which they fed each other lead-ins) and part Q&A. Plenty of liberal politics and plenty of laughs. The Michigan Theater is very nice, really has no bad seats, and the price of $55 was gentle for such great entertainment.

    Fantastic night

by Doc Losh on 1/29/24Michigan Theater - Ann Arbor

Jordan and Roy were great--timely humor, interesting areas of discussion, great back-and-forth! More than just jokes.

    Two pals pal-ing it up.

by Mason on 1/29/24Michigan Theater - Ann Arbor

Jordan and Roy were great and interactive. Some of the best comedy comes from smart well-traveled people like these two.

    Great show

by LH on 1/29/24Michigan Theater - Ann Arbor

They are both very funny. They connected really well with the audience. I also enjoyed the more serious q and a at the end of the show.

by Nick on 1/29/24Michigan Theater - Ann Arbor

Great show. Roy and Jordan were great. The style of show was engaging and funny. Neither one of them Sat down during the whole show. A perfect mix of humor, their opinions, crowd work, and the state of the world. Shout out to Jordan the hometown boy from Kzoo.

    Love these two I

by MO Marie on 1/29/24GLC Live at 20 Monroe - Grand Rapids

The venue - meh. Jordan Klepper, Roy Wood Jr and their opening act - excellent. These two bring their intelligence, comedy skills and quick wit to an act that includes an open mic segment. Their answers were often thoughtful, serious and very funny. Great night of comedy Loved it!

    Pre-event music

by Smitty on 1/28/24GLC Live at 20 Monroe - Grand Rapids

If I had wanted to hear rock concert music I would have gone to a rock concert. Why is it that you have to play music so loud that it vibrated through your body? Why, I ask? Nice background music would be ok but that is not what you played. I don't understand your reasoning in doing this. Jordan Klepper and Roy Wood, Jr. were outstanding AND THEY USED THEIR NORMAL SPEAKING VOICES!!! Not at all considering going back to this venue given my first experience with your outrageous loudness prior to the main performance. Sad start..glad it finished on a "high note"without music.

    Great show!

by Rhonda in GR on 1/28/24GLC Live at 20 Monroe - Grand Rapids

I wasn't familiar with these guys before seeing them live so I wasn't sure exactly what to expect, I can say I was not disappointed! Love their style of humor and watching lots of videos for more. The Q&A was okay, but would have preferred more from the two of them instead.

    Pre-Emmy Award Night Spectacular!

by Rick A on 1/17/24Warner Theatre - Washington

I wish I’d remembered the name of the woman comedian, who was the opening act as she was awesome as well! I did not realize that both Jordan and Roy would be up on the stage in conversation or dialogue. It felt unscripted and casual, but that was perfect for these two gentlemen as we got to see them in action. I was moved by Roy’s statement about what he would do if Trump won in 2024. I also appreciate his thoughts on not being chosen as the Daily Show host replacement. After watching Roy on Sunday night, I understand him to have much more depth than I initially thought, and actually believe he would be a great Daily Show permanent host! It was amazing to see him the following night on the stage at the Emmys. I understand Jordan missed his flight and couldn’t be there. What a shame.

    Too much politics

by Lacy on 1/17/24Warner Theatre - Washington

We were hoping for more humor outside of politics. The audience was certainly on the same page with their beliefs, so no one needed to be persuaded. I still love both Roy and Jordan and will always watch them on TV.

    Great, funny and thoughtful show

by Geneva on 1/17/24Warner Theatre - Washington

I couldn't understand the gal that performed before Roy and Jordan. She talked so fast that I couldn't catch most of what she was saying. I think I am too old to enjoy the humor of younger people. Roy and Jordan were worth it. I appreciated that they know the issues and spoke seriously about the state of our country, as well as finding humor in our situation.

    Amazing and special

by John Blaze!!! on 1/17/24Warner Theatre - Washington

Roy & Jordan were amazing, transparent, raw and real. Funny and engaging. My only criticism has nothing to do with the talent or presentation... the venue was extremely cold... that's it... #🔥blazecertified

    Funny, but

by Mel on 1/17/24Warner Theatre - Washington

They spent too much time on audience participation. While I loved seeing Roy and Jordan's brains work on the fly, I'd have rather had an extra 10 min of their back and forth. 4 stars!
