Roxy Music Live in Concert

Roxy Music was formed in 1970 by lead singer and songwriter Bryan Ferry and bass guitarist Graham Simpson. Ferry had just lost his job teaching ceramics at a girls' school for holding unauthorized record-listening sessions. Ferry decided to start a band and put out ads to attract musicians. He enlisted Andy Mackay on saxophone and oboe, Roger Bunn on guitar and Dexter Lloyd on drums. Brian Eno, who has found enormous success as a solo artist, was also brought on for synthesizer and treatments, although he left soon after the group's second album release. The difference in style between Ferry and Eno would create the band's signature sound, but it also eventually drove the two apart. Roxy Music gained critical attention quickly and was signed to Island Records almost immediately upon the release of their debut self-titled album in 1972. The album was a significant success, reaching No. 10 on the UK charts. Things really heated up when the group performed their debut single "Virginia Plain" on BBC's "Top of the Pops." The song was later listed on Rolling Stone's 100 Greatest Debut Singles of All Time list. Their signature style was displayed for the world and became a template for the glam trend in the UK. The band released their second album, For Your Pleasure, in 1973. This album turned out to be Eno's last project with Roxy Music, a lineup change that would send the band in a new direction. They released Stranded in 1973, Country Life in 1974, and Siren in 1975. Rolling Stone referred to Stranded and Country Life as marking "the zenith of contemporary British art rock." The group took a break in 1976 before reuniting to record Manifesto in 1979, Flesh and Blood in 1980 and their final studio album Avalon in 1982. After taking a second and final hiatus that began in 1983, Roxy Music got back together for their first reunion tour in 2001. Since then, Rolling Stone has ranked Roxy Music No. 98 on their "The Immortals -- The 100 Greatest Artists of All Time" list, and in 2019, Roxy Music was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Over the course of their career, Roxy Music have played many famous venues, like the American Airlines Center in Dallas and the TD Garden in Boston.

    Exceeded my expectations

by Stef on 9/12/22Capital One Arena - Washington

Great show, vip treatment was impeccable. Great sampling of their 50 yr repertoire. They’re all getting old but so am I!!! It was one of my favorite bands 45 years ago when I was 15!

    Snafu at Capital One Arena

by KB on 9/12/22Capital One Arena - Washington

Roxy put on an outstanding show. However, I selected my own seats during presale. However it looks like the stage was bigger than the venue could handle. They lost an entire side section. My seats were then split and one became invalid due to obstructed view. After arguing with the box office I think I got comparable seats. Totally put me in a fowl mood. Was a 7.5 hour drive down from Cleveland. The venue also had no air conditioning which my wife could not stand. There is echo as well, this is not a venue for music. And seats were listed as club seats it was so cramped as well. Our Rocket Mortgage Fieldhouse Club seats are extra wide and have extra legroom. No echo and air conditioning.

    Superb Concert

by Lisa K on 9/12/22Capital One Arena - Washington

Roxy Music did not disappoint. They played an anthology of their music highlighting all different styles through the years. All the songs you want to hear are part of the play list. Musically they are as impressive as ever. If you are a fan it is a must see.

    Worth waiting 42 years for

by Toby Harnden on 9/12/22Capital One Arena - Washington

I became a Roxy Music fan in Manchester in the UK in 1980, when I was 14. I finally got to see them and they did not disappoint. They played all their best songs and the sound and visuals were superb. I'd forgotten what a devotee of Pop Art lead singer Bryan Ferry was and how much of his inspiration was from the U.S.

    Why was it so hot?

by Squidink on 9/12/22Capital One Arena - Washington

Could hardly enjoy the show because the Capitol One Arena was like an oven. Why was it SO HOT? The opening act was an hour, and then it took another 30 mins to set up Roxy Music. Performance was accompanied by lots of flashing lights and video graphics - it was best when the screen just featured the band members. Band sounded good considering their age, but I was so uncomfortable I couldn't wait to get out of there.

What a privilege it was to see Roxy one more time. Their contribution to music is unique and this time they dressed it up with amazing lights and technology. They had the entire Cap center dancing!

    Fantastic

by smess on 9/12/22Capital One Arena - Washington

Having been a fan of their albums for 25+ years, I never thought I'd have the opportunity to see them live, and it was a genuine thrill. They're definitely past their prime, but still put on a great show.

    Mixed

by Island Chill Yacht Charters on 9/12/22Capital One Arena - Washington

Wonderful to hear great music and professional musicians - but very poor venue acoustics. Venue resonated with echos. And why not Virginia Plain? Andy fantastic, Phil minimal and all Bryan could say was 'Thank You', and wave. It was 'OK.....'.

Roxy Music @ Capital One Arena

by TrePini1974 on 9/12/22Capital One Arena - Washington

Overall, great show, great experience. That said, Ticketmaster's "dynamic pricing" model (read: gouging) affected my decision to attend the concert. Judging by the turnout and the comments I heard from fellow concertgoers, I am not alone in deciding to spend my entertainment dollars differently (read: more cost effectively/more bang for the buck) in the future.

Too little too late but evening was spoilt by the venue more

by Hat on 9/12/22Capital One Arena - Washington

The venue wasn't suitable for the band. They needed more intimacy and the audience struggled to crane their necks and engage. The band were engulfed by aggressive AV projections. The audio levels were all over the place. And, the set list needed to start stronger. Bryan's voice struggled throughout. The venue charged huge sums for drinks which really ruined the fun. Always love Roxy but this all felt too little too late. Very disappointed.

    Enjoyed the show; excellent musicianship.

by JohnF on 9/12/22Scotiabank Arena - Toronto

Great show; the musicians were phenomenal and the sound was tight. The accompanying visual effects were excellent. Played most of their hits and familiar songs but I was disappointed that they didn't play my favorite - "Both Ends Burning". All in all, a fun evening.

    What a SHOW!

by Tony Liokossis on 9/11/22Scotiabank Arena - Toronto

This was more than a concert, it was a feast for the senses. The 12 piece set up was so tight, they must have practiced like crazy as this was the opening show of the tour! Ferry was a suave as ever, his voice surprisingly good. The only minor thing missing was the upper register in “More Than This”, the rest of his performance was awesome. The visuals were excellent and the live delivery on some of the more rocking pieces was so much fuller and concussive than in the records. Special mention goes to Andy Mackay on sax. He was note-perfect and powerful, a true highlight. I was not expecting such a great show. So glad I went.
