I have been a fan of the Roger Mcguinn and the Byrds for over
4 decades, so lets get that right out front. I was aware of much of the
bands history but had no idea how little I knew of McGuinn's role, until he
started literally sharing his entire music history, woven through the fabric
of so many memorable songs, along with songs that influenced him prior
to becoming a rock star. It was interesting to learn of his roots as a guitar
player, songwriter, and band member of one of rock's most notable bands.
Roger's voice is still as rich and distinctive as it was 40 years ago, as are
his guitar chops, so it was a real treat to have the opportunity to experience
a wonderful evening with one of rock's true living legends. The only thing I
can say that isn't 100% supportive of his performance is that I felt he talked a
little much, when he could have been singing and playing more. But I also
understand that its important that he does talk as much as he does, as he is
sharing his life story, so its a kind of paradox and I give him the benefit of the doubt.
