Rockfest needs to step it up - get some trash cans
by Kellkat on 5/16/11Liberty Memorial - Kansas CityI normally love Rockfest, I go every year. But quite frankly the last two years have sucked, partially due to them now scheduling Rockfest in May instead of June. It used to be hot and sunny, people in bikinis, shorts, just enjoying the weather and music. Since it has been in May, we had mudfest 2010, I know it looked fun, but it was freezing cold and raining a non-stop cold rain. We toughed it out most of the day, but by nightfall, we could no longer take it and left. This year, it was cold and gloomy again. The worst thing about it is there has been no more spreading your blanket out so you and your people can lay back, kick it in the sunshine and listen to good music, and of course traveling upfront to where the masses have gathered in front of the stage from time to time. I don't know what happened, but Rockfest is now so crammed that there's huge massess infront of the stage as well as everywhere else, with lines of people shuffling through the crowd like a herd of cattle. You almost can't move (even in areas where you should be able to), you definitely can't go anywhere quickly and certainly not without getting ran into 100x. That would be expected in the masses but not in the area we should be able to relax in. It has become uncomfortable and unsightly. I didn't view the mudslides as disrespectful last year, but this year, people really did trash the place. I mean, where were the trash cans??? They spend $ for plenty of port-a-potties and vendors, but barely any trash cans. These people are wasted and need a trash receptacle every 15 feet or so or they just discard their plastic cups and food wrappers/trays on the ground. It was disgusting, and disrespectful! I don't litter and I don't live in a home with trash everywhere and when I pay to go enjoy myself at a show somewhere, I should be able to not be surrounded by trash everywhere I step. As I said, there was no way you could even lay a blanket on the ground to chill. You'd have been trampled and sitting in the midst of a landfill. Rockfest has changed and not for the better. I will rethink my purchase next year before jumping to buy these tickets again. To top it off, the 2nd stage had terrible sound quality, it was very distorted. When Black Label Society came on, you couldn't even hear Zach Wyld's guitar or the vocals.
