Rockfest needs to step it up - get some trash cans

by Kellkat on 5/16/11Liberty Memorial - Kansas City

I normally love Rockfest, I go every year. But quite frankly the last two years have sucked, partially due to them now scheduling Rockfest in May instead of June. It used to be hot and sunny, people in bikinis, shorts, just enjoying the weather and music. Since it has been in May, we had mudfest 2010, I know it looked fun, but it was freezing cold and raining a non-stop cold rain. We toughed it out most of the day, but by nightfall, we could no longer take it and left. This year, it was cold and gloomy again. The worst thing about it is there has been no more spreading your blanket out so you and your people can lay back, kick it in the sunshine and listen to good music, and of course traveling upfront to where the masses have gathered in front of the stage from time to time. I don't know what happened, but Rockfest is now so crammed that there's huge massess infront of the stage as well as everywhere else, with lines of people shuffling through the crowd like a herd of cattle. You almost can't move (even in areas where you should be able to), you definitely can't go anywhere quickly and certainly not without getting ran into 100x. That would be expected in the masses but not in the area we should be able to relax in. It has become uncomfortable and unsightly. I didn't view the mudslides as disrespectful last year, but this year, people really did trash the place. I mean, where were the trash cans??? They spend $ for plenty of port-a-potties and vendors, but barely any trash cans. These people are wasted and need a trash receptacle every 15 feet or so or they just discard their plastic cups and food wrappers/trays on the ground. It was disgusting, and disrespectful! I don't litter and I don't live in a home with trash everywhere and when I pay to go enjoy myself at a show somewhere, I should be able to not be surrounded by trash everywhere I step. As I said, there was no way you could even lay a blanket on the ground to chill. You'd have been trampled and sitting in the midst of a landfill. Rockfest has changed and not for the better. I will rethink my purchase next year before jumping to buy these tickets again. To top it off, the 2nd stage had terrible sound quality, it was very distorted. When Black Label Society came on, you couldn't even hear Zach Wyld's guitar or the vocals.

Rockfest was even better than last year!

by Hatefulb on 5/16/11Liberty Memorial - Kansas City

Absolutely my favorite festival to go to every year. I loved the bands this and the weather was a bit better. I think it would still be better in June though.

Great event. Would like bathrooms closer to the main stage. Didn't seem to be as many food vendors this year.

    Hinder Stole the Show!

by TheRed on 5/16/11Liberty Memorial - Kansas City

Halestorm was good, Hinder rocked the placed, then it went to shit in a handbasket. Sevendust live... was just sad. They are a much better band than what they sounded like Saturday. They could of just forgot about having a second stage, because none of the bands were worth watching. The event itself. Freaks on top of freaks. More security needed. Was an experience, glad i went, but wont be back.

    Weather sucked again

by mosnoopyman on 5/16/11Liberty Memorial - Kansas City

Once again the weather was the most dissapointing thing about Rockfest. Ever sence they moved the date up it has been this way. Enlarging the amount of people they allow to attend is making it more dangerous all the time. The barriers got torn down by roudy idiots and several of us were walked on and shoved to the ground. People jumping over the barrier should be escorted out but there would have to be more croud control staff in place. These dumb asses jumping on our heads and being asses just say its rockfest like that gives them a license to be as stupid as they want and hurt women and others if thier not paying attention from behind. And this just stay out of there attitude is crap we deserve to see the bands to, the fighters need to be sent out.

Great Event...Only One Exit For 55,000 People

by BobSagget on 5/16/11Liberty Memorial - Kansas City

The concert rocks as long as you don't mind dodging flying shoes and drunk people. My only serious complaint is that at the end of the concert there is only one 10m exit for THOUSANDS of people. It takes half an hour just to get to the exit. I wish they have 2 or more next year.

This event was OUTSTANDING!!! One of the best organized events I've ever been to...WAY better than Mardi Gras in New Orleans. If major crowds don't bother ya, then I highly recommend. I don't recommend taking young kids with ya....definitely an event geared to mature teens and adults. The crowd in my opinion 'plays well with others'....people watched out for other people. Awesome experience :-)

I just wish they would have searched people for drugs. I got it that its an outdoor event but people had more Marijuana than cigarettes. Usually, I wouldn't mind but even with the wind, it was hard to escape.

    12 hours of awesome

by Eickler on 5/16/11Liberty Memorial - Kansas City

I have now been to four Rockfest events and each one has been well worth the price of admission. The bands are almost always fantastic and even though the crowd can get crazy there is plenty of room at Liberty Memorial to satisfy a large variety of concert goers. Whether you want to pull out a blanket and listen from afar or be right in the pit surfing and moshing, Rockfest is the annual event you should at least make once. Being outdoor, the weather can often times be a pain in the ass, like 2010's Mudfest, but if you come prepared and are devoted to the music, you won't have a problem.

    Just a killer event!

by Shelby350 on 5/16/11Liberty Memorial - Kansas City

Like any other hard-rocking concert, so long as you stay out of the fray, a great time is had by all. The even is reasonably priced especially if you get the tickets early, the food was reasonably priced ($5 and under, including adult beverages), and the people had a great time without the anarchy... not the best place for the kids by any stretch due to adult antics, but totally worth it. Way to go KC!
