About

Roberto Carlos Live in Concert

Brazilian pop-rock trailblazer Roberto Carlos is known to many as "the King of Latin Music." With a career spanning more than half a century, Carlos has sold more than 140 million albums globally and is considered one of the most influential pop artists in Brazil and the world. With the help of co-writer and frequent collaborator Erasmo Carlos, Roberto Carlos has written more than three dozen Top 10-charting singles.

Born to a lower middle-class family in 1941, Carlos began playing the guitar and piano as a child. At just 9 years old, he performed for the first time at a children's show broadcast by Rádio Cachoeiro, where he won first prize and became a regular performer.

As a teenager, Carlos moved to Rio de Janeiro and formed a band originally called the Snacks, which was later renamed the Sputniks. In the late '50s, Carlos went solo and performed bossa nova in the style of Brazilian singer João Gilberto. When his first full-length album, 1961's Louco Por Você (Crazy for You), failed to achieve commercial success, Carlos switched back to rock music.

As a pop/rock musician, Carlos drew influence from then-popular American and British acts such as Little Richard, Bill Haley, Elvis Presley, and The Beatles. He eventually became the face of "Jovem Guarda" (Young Guard), which started as a TV show hosted by Carlos but eventually became a catchphrase for a Brazilian musical movement influenced by the Western midcentury rock and roll wave. Carlos' 1964 album, É Proibido Fumar, especially exemplified this upbeat sound and style, also known in Brazil as iê-iê-iê ("yeah-yeah-yeah").

In the late '60s, Carlos began to pivot his artistry to specialize more in love songs. Along with close collaborator Erasmo Carlos, Roberto Carlos penned now-famous hits such as "Detalhes," "Sua Estupidez," "Jesus Cristo," and "Debaixo dos Caracóis dos Seus Cabelos," earning him Grammy accolades and top chart placements in Latin America. Carlos' love songs became especially popular in neighboring Argentina, and by the '70s, he had become the best-selling Brazilian musician in history.

In 1988, Carlos won a Grammy Award for Best Latin Pop Performance, plus several Latin Grammys in the early 2000s. In 2015, the Latin Recording Academy honored him with the prestigious Person of the Year award. In 2009, Carlos celebrated his 50th anniversary as a performer, touring through North and South America to honor the achievement alongside fans. More recently, Carlos released his 2018 Spanish-language album Amor Sin Límite, which featured duets with Jennifer Lopez ("Llegaste") and Alejandro Sanz ("Esa Mujer").

The concert started on time, comfortable venue and a superb singer. Roberto Carlos and his music are a travel to the past, a good one, classic songs that we can enjoy over and over. It was great to see him and listening as well. Very much worth it !!!

Roberto Carlos - in Portughese - not for me!

by Mariah67 on 9/15/14MGM Grand Garden Arena - Las Vegas

I had look forward to this concert for such a long time. Planned my whole weekend in Vegas around this concert. First off... sound at the venue was horrible... most times I could not hear when he spoke on the microphone. His Choir, I could see them dancing and even see their lips as they sang... but no sound could be heard where I was. The other complaint I had about this concert was that, although I know Portuguese is his native language, with over half the venue full of Spanish speaking fans, he only sang 2-3 songs in Spanish. I could hear the requests from the fans, asking him for more Spanish songs, but he ignored their plights.

    Great show!!

by Karconta on 9/15/14San Diego Civic Theatre - San Diego

I took my dad to this show because he has been Roberto Carlos fan for so long I remember been a child and listen to his songs every time we jumped in my dad's car. My brother and husband came along with us and we had a blast I really didn't expect he'll put a show like that, it was awesome, his musicians were amazing, the lights were changing according to the rithym of the song, it was so great!! Lots of flashbacks from my childhood came back for almost two hours that lasts the show. But the best is Roberto Carlos himself he is such a great human beign, so humble, nice and he sings from his heart. I thought that I was gonna fall asleep during his show, hehe but it was one of the best I've ever attend even my husband enjoyed it, he is not a fan of his music, he doesn't even like concerts at all!! Anyways If anyone has the chance to go to this show, you will have an amazing time!

    Roberto Carlos was fine

by dbusgos on 9/15/14Staples center - los angeles

It was mostly in Spanish. I was worried after reading the reviews about his recent concerts about the possibility of his concert being mostly in Portuguese, it was not. In fact, I will say he spoke and sang in Spanish about 95% of the time. I also felt that sound was a little weak and sometimes it was hard to hear him. He sang for one hour 45 minutes and I did not feel that it was long enough. I left the venue feeling like something was missing.

I've a lot of Roberto Carlos music in SPANISH and play it constantly along with other Spanish music of his contemporaries. I liked the venue, the show itself (lights etc) and the music sound (orchestra) . I just wished he had played more of his Spanish songs. He had conversations on stage, unfortunately I don't speak a word of Portuguese, so I was in the dark about his comments. And by the cheers I heard whenever he said or did anything in Spanish, I KNOW there were a lot of Spanish speaking people. Overall we liked it, but had we known it was mostly in Portuguese, we might have skipped it. This could have easily been 5 stars AND bottom line could have been YES! We did notice that quite a few (Spanish speaking) people around us, left the venue during the show.

Roberto Carlos is an awesome entertainer!

by Catarina1953 on 9/13/14MGM Grand Garden Arena - Las Vegas

We had a spectacular experience at this concert. Roberto Carlos is amazing! The only problem that we encountered was that the sound system was not very clear. It was hard to understand what Roberto Carlos was saying from where we were seated. I could hear people yelling out for him to speak up because they were having issues as well.

    It was an unforgettable night!!!!!

by mcicconi on 9/12/14MGM Grand Garden Arena - Las Vegas

The show was amazing! Roberto Carlos is and will always be THE KING in pop-romantic music. He sang almost 2 hours and each song was better than the former one. He had to return twice to the stage after finishing the show because everybody was clamming for more! I would definitely recommend this show over and over again. It was a great experience!!!!

    All the classics

by Redslayer on 9/11/14MGM Grand Garden Arena - Las Vegas

Even though it was a great concert, it was very disappointing that THE ORGANIZERS did not announce in advance that this was not a Spanish concert. Roberto Carlos is well know in all of Latin America but this concert was geared for his Brazilian fans. Proof of that is that only one full song was sang in Spanish I enjoyed the concert but I would had think twice if I had know this in advance since I don't speak any Portuguese

    I'm glad I went!!!

by Criswonderwoman on 9/10/14MGM Grand Garden Arena - Las Vegas

Roberto Carlos voice started a little shaky in the beginning , I guest it was the emotions, but then his voice became strong like everyone knows him for, he's still amazing. I wish that people were a little more respectful and didn't talk when he was talking, it was a little hard to hear him speak. I was extremely happy that he sang some of his older songs. If you are a fan I recommend that you go see him.
