Outstanding vocals......just wondered if she were actually singing; not one crack!
Her voice came from behind the stage with the beauty and clarity that I had remembered from years ago. She was slow and easy and getting the audience warmed up. She continued to grace us with her never changing jazzy, melodic voice singing all of our favorites, just like we wanted her to do. It was wonderful..... until she stopped the show to give a 5 minute speech about waving cell phones and how dare we take photos of her ( our long awaited jazzy queen) and not respect her! It turned me off!
The venue at the Hard Rock was the perfect setting for these types of shows. Roberta Flack did not disappoint. Loved her engaging her female and male back-up singers. They really have talent. Loved Flack's renditions of her most famous songs. Look forward to going to the Hard Rock again. P.S. Videos, cameras not allowed. Flack asked audience to stop capturing her on their cellphones because it was a distraction to her with all the flashes going.
I have to say one thing. She has an incredible band and of course a voice. Keep your cameras away, cell phones too as she makes it clear that it annoys her!
Wow was I disappointingly surprised with Roberta Flack's performance Monday night, March 1, 2010 at the Hard Rock. Let's start with the fact that she came on stage at 8:30' ish for a show that was supposed to start at 8:00 P.M. On top of that the show was very short - it ended at 9:40 P.M. I did not pay almost $100.00 bucks a pop for that quickie. To add insult to injury - it started with her singing off stage. I was left to wonder where her beautiful voice was coming from. A few moments later she appeared. I thought, okay, she's late - but she's here and she sounds great. Her voice was absolutely beautiful. That is - when she sang. I thought maybe she was a little hoarse or something because it seemed as though she was talking her way through some of the songs but then she sang Where Is The Love and her voice sounded beautiful again. Since it's been a few years since I've seen Roberta Flack, I expected more of a "show." I didn't get that. She sang a few of her hits - but I was puzzled once again because her background singers sang a song that was very long. I didn't expect - the background singers to sing a song in its entirety - without Ms. Flack 's vocals. At that point I thought maybe it's so she could take a break. When she sang The First Time I Saw Your Face I was absolutely thrilled but then she sang a few new tunes and a few she isn't known for like Ain't No Sunshine When She's Gone. I expected more from Roberta Flack or should I say I expected anything other than a show that wasn't quite an hour long. I know this review is sort of up and down - that's because that's the way the show went. Up and Down. I'm just hoping Ms. no Flack will give her fans what they deserve - Roberta Flack!
The songstress diva gave a memorable performance bring back old favorites and new ones as well. She is as smooth as glass. The band is tight with a jazz rythem only she can deliver.
started 30 minutes late, on stage only 1 hour 15 minutes
Show was great from beginning to end. Her voice is never changing. The time given to the back-up singers was great, and the band was fantastic. The way they all blended together on stage was awesome! It left me wanting more!!
it's become an annoyance when people in the audience take photos, videos and text with their cell phones while a performance is going on. Flack stopped the show to admonish those with poor cell phone manners, including those taking photos and waving their phone from side to side. i agree with what she said but disagree in her manner of saying it with a big attitude. rather than being gracious she scolded the audience. people behind me left and others were leaving during the show. I know because sitting in theside of the floor section the exit door kept slamming as people were leaving throughout the show. people don't want to pay money and drive a long way to a concert only to be scolded by an entertainer. btw my cell phone was turned off. the staff at Hard Rock are a joke. if they're not singing they're talking loud to each other while the performance is going on just standing there and making noise. they prevent a woman in the 100 section from exiting down the stairs to the nearest exit but rather try and make her go walk all the way up the stairs of the section only to walk down again. why? the seats, especially the floor section are horrible. cramped tight with poor viewpoints. just as bad as the outdoor mizner park seating. only good thing is the sound. you can hear very well at the end of the concert one of the backup singers was motioning with his arms for the audience to stand and give her an ovation but you can't fool an audience. many who were standing were rushing to the exits to end this dissapointing concert experience.
Roberta Flack was so wonderful in the past! She was either really tired or spaced out or something during her concert in So. Florida. No energy, no connection with audience, voice was thin and squeaky. She left the stage without even saying goodbye or taking a bow.
Roberta Flack gets better with time. The performance was food for my soul. Her male and female singers were outstanding. Each member of the band played their instrument, as if it were an extension of themselves. Very gifted musicians. I am Jamaican; the rendition of Bob Marley's: No Woman Nuh Cry, would bring a smile to Bob's lips. A FABULOUS evening; time well spent. A Wonderful week day treat.
Roberta Flack was great, her backup singers greater. One has to remember she's 73 years old, so the pace was sort of slow, but the woman can play a piano. She did most of her major hits and some new stuff from her upcoming album. Just remember, future concert goers, don't flash your cameras near her on the stage, she does not like it one bit.
I was so excited to see her in concert. She is my favorite; but what a disappointment.... She opened up with Killing me Softly and went downhill from there... she has so many great songs.. SHe sang Marvin Gaye (which I love) and other artists but I don't see why she would do that.. She skipped sentences on songs ( I know them by heart).. and to top it all she stopped the concert to complain about the people trying to take pictures with their cell phones... Not even AC/DC or Fleetwood Mac did that... Mind you the place was half full... Total disappointment.... I don't know if she is done or it looked to me she was on something (with all due respect). Horrible show...
Exceptional even from the nosebleed section! Her voice is a timeless classic which has not waned with age. I also love the way she highlights the talents of her band members and backup singers. Time seemed to fly by and she left us wanting more. I am looking forward to her album droping.
I love Roberta Flack... before this recent tour, I'd already seen her twice. Unfortunately, she's not what she used to be. At times, she looked like a granny with rigor mortis. Her "moves" were embarrassing. Granted, she is 73 and still has something of a voice, but last night.... she scolded her audience for about 5 minutes over the use of recording devices, more specifically, cell phones. She said it was "bodacious", plain out rude and distracting. She said that she was talking to adults and followed by saying, "Well, I think you're adults". I say, what nerve! Everyone is doing it at every concert. I carry my cell phone with me and although I do not record or take pics, I paid to see a show and NOT to hear that crap. And finally... she began a number after "The First TIme Ever I Saw Your Face", got up and said, what do you think of my band, and walked off the stage. She never returned, didn't say goodnight and of course didn't finish that last song. What a let down.
It's a very good Jazz' Show . The Orquestra are great!
Roberta never let 's me down! Every time I see her live, she never seems to fail to impress the crowd. I did find one thing upsetting ~~ she stopped in the middle of her concert to tell people to not take photos or video with their camera and/or camera phones. The way she presented the situtation was a tad on the rude side. The median age of the crowd at this concert was well over 40 so I don't see how she could scold 40 yr olds at her concert. Nonetheless, she still sounded amazing & her band was great!
We had been to a Roberta Flack concert years ago (like 25 years ago!) in Connecticut and it was one of the best concerts I had ever been to. I wasn't sure if this one could live up to that one since, well, Roberta is 25 years older, too! But I thought it was spectacular - too short, but spectacular. She still has one of the finest voices out there. The band and back-up singers were awesome, the arrangements were great, the choice of music was just about perfect. She sang two songs from a new album, and they were very good, too. She is a consummate professional and I enjoyed every minute of it. She got to my heart, and made me cry. Yes, Roberta, we will "still love you tomorrow"!
I thoroughly enjoyed her top performance, and recommend it to everyone!
