The Robert Cray Band in Concert

When it comes to live performance, The Robert Cray Band like to get right down to business. Though they're led by one of the most distinctive blues guitar stylists of his generation, and the rest of the band bears a similar amount of instrumental authority, they don't like to showboat. Flashy licks are simply not what Cray and company are all about.

Instead, they cut right through to the emotional core of every tune — whether they're playing the classics that put Cray on the map, like "Right Next Door" and "Smoking Gun," or killing it on covers of tunes by the likes of Bill Withers, Bobby "Blue" Bland, or The Mississippi Sheiks. Cray and his cohorts use their mighty musical prowess in the service of the song. Sure, you'll hear plenty of fluid guitar solos, but at a Robert Cray show you'll never hear a single unnecessary note — in other words, everything he and his band play on stage really matters.

The Robert Cray Band Background

Robert Cray did more for the blues in the 1980s than anybody other than Stevie Ray Vaughan. He started out small with a string of early-'80s indie albums, but by the middle of the decade the singer/guitarist's blend of blues, soul, and rock 'n' roll influences made its way to the mainstream with a major-label deal that introduced the world to the game-changing Strong Persuader LP.

Between his supple grooves, soulful vocals, storytelling songs, and stinging guitar solos, Cray emerged as the blues hero the '80s didn't even know they were waiting for until he came along. Over time, Cray's sound has become simultaneously deeper and more expansive. His reputation has grown to the point that he's an esteemed elder statesman of modern blues, a winner of multiple Grammy awards, and an artist as venerated today as any of his heroes were when he was growing up and learning his licks.

Seeing Robert Cray was in my bucket list! He was fantastic! The venue was comfortable and we had a great time! My only disappointment was that he didn’t play Smoking Gun - my favorite by him. Amazing how great the sound was. Thought I was listening to a CD!

  • What an amazing show!!

by Shampa525 on 3/12/25The Summit Showroom at The Venetian Resort - Las VegasRating: 5 out of 5

This was my third time seeing this beautiful talent, Robert Cray! The Venetian Summit Room in Las Vegas was the best place for him. The show started later in the evening and I felt like I was at a concert in my living room. So warm and intimate. If you have not experienced his shows, now is the time before he stops touring. Do not miss him!!!

  • Excellent

by Carole on 3/12/25The Summit Showroom at The Venetian Resort - Las VegasRating: 5 out of 5

The venue was at Venetians Hotels Summit Venue and was a smaller more intimate atmosphere. The sound was so good and Robert and Band seemed to be having a good time joking and playing. It was really fun and again sounded great. No disappointment here. Come back to Vegas.

  • Excellent Band, Awesome Show, Top Shelf Entertainment!

by Jola F on 3/11/25The Summit Showroom at The Venetian Resort - Las VegasRating: 5 out of 5

I've been waiting to see Robert Cray Band since April 2020 when they cancelled their Henderson show due to the pandemic lockdown, therefore I was very excited to attend this show, finally! They did not disappoint! Each and every band member was just a class act doing their magic resulting in a great display of talent, dedication, and a masterful musicianship! Robert's voice was mesmerizing as always, and the band was as tight as ever. The song mix just right, the sound was fantastic, excellent stage view, the concert was such a wonderful experience - such a treat to see the RCB band live!

One great song after another. True professionals. Loved the venue, and the band!

  • Disappointed

by Jim on 3/11/25The Summit Showroom at The Venetian Resort - Las VegasRating: 2 out of 5

Many of his songs sounded alike, just changed the words. A couple of good slow jams but nothing more. He stood in the same spot the entire concert, so it was kind of hard to watch him play. "Right next Door"was cool but disappointed he didn't play "Smoking Gun"

So impressed with Robert Cray's performance. He has the energy and talent to excite the audience. His vocals were spot on. He has an amazing range and when he slips into the falsetto, wow!

  • Great Show

Fantastic band and venue. His voice was still strong and his guitar playing exceptional.

  • Brilliant musician, great blues, too short

by CyranoWriter on 3/1/25The Walker Theatre - ChattanoogaRating: 3 out of 5

Having seen him perform maybe 20 years ago I wonder if he's getting old? He walked off the stage after an hour and 15 minutes of performing, came back for a couple of encores, but then left for good after about 1 hour and 35 minutes. Way too short in my opiandn. However, what he did play was amazing.

The man is such a consummate professional and delivers such a great show, every time! His voice is still incredible and guitar skills to match, along with such good, original music. Always a treat to see him live and he's on my small list of artists that I just will not miss anytime they come close.

  • A legendary musician/entertainer!

by JH on 2/22/25Wells Hall at The Parker - Ft LauderdaleRating: 5 out of 5

A terrific performance, from IMO, a musician that for whatever reason never got the acclaim on the world stage that he richly deserves. His vocals were still peerless, and blues playing was wonderful. His band, was tight, and in sync especially, keyboards. A must see. An American treasure!
