Good but not great
by Steveodad on 3/6/24Scherr Forum- B of A Performing Arts Center, Thousand Oaks - Thousand OaksRob was very good at looking like Neil, singing voice close to Neil but another Neil cover with Dean Cooley is no comparison voice of Neil. Dean is much better and his band is setup the right way like a 70s band. Rob's band had issues. First Rob's voice too close to mic or is may have been over bearing. Very loud to where his voice was a little distorted. His band.... first drummer using a electronic drum set made this performance sound electronic. Drummer also using same beat and strokes for most of the songs. No variation. Guitarist was good but guitar was also very loud. Music from band seemed loud and over bearing the entire show. Rob looked like he had to ( turn up his mic) to sing songs over band. I hate to be critical about any band or cover band. But I am a musician of 60 years mostly on drums and I only rate bands when asked, like here and give my honest opinion. Nothing personal and I hate being negative about singers and musicians l But I'm asked to give my honest opinion and hope this will get back to Rob and his band just for information only. Music of Neil Diamond has been covered by many band groups. I have seen most if not all of them and I rate Dean Cooley number 1 and Rob number 2. I apologize if Rob and his band in my view had some problems that other people around my seat also had the same complaints. This review if honest and for information only. You may think I'm wrong or opinionated and I apologize to all readers of this review. I will end with the band was too electronic and loud except for keyboard and solo singer. Thank you all .
