    Good but not great

by Steveodad on 3/6/24Scherr Forum- B of A Performing Arts Center, Thousand Oaks - Thousand Oaks

Rob was very good at looking like Neil, singing voice close to Neil but another Neil cover with Dean Cooley is no comparison voice of Neil. Dean is much better and his band is setup the right way like a 70s band. Rob's band had issues. First Rob's voice too close to mic or is may have been over bearing. Very loud to where his voice was a little distorted. His band.... first drummer using a electronic drum set made this performance sound electronic. Drummer also using same beat and strokes for most of the songs. No variation. Guitarist was good but guitar was also very loud. Music from band seemed loud and over bearing the entire show. Rob looked like he had to ( turn up his mic) to sing songs over band. I hate to be critical about any band or cover band. But I am a musician of 60 years mostly on drums and I only rate bands when asked, like here and give my honest opinion. Nothing personal and I hate being negative about singers and musicians l But I'm asked to give my honest opinion and hope this will get back to Rob and his band just for information only. Music of Neil Diamond has been covered by many band groups. I have seen most if not all of them and I rate Dean Cooley number 1 and Rob number 2. I apologize if Rob and his band in my view had some problems that other people around my seat also had the same complaints. This review if honest and for information only. You may think I'm wrong or opinionated and I apologize to all readers of this review. I will end with the band was too electronic and loud except for keyboard and solo singer. Thank you all .

    Sorry, but you asked.

by Diamond fan. on 3/6/24Scherr Forum- B of A Performing Arts Center, Thousand Oaks - Thousand Oaks

I thought this would be like going to see a Beatles show where they dressed and performed like the Beatles. This was like watching a sad Vegas lounge show at an off the strip hotel. Poor imitation of Diamond. This would have been a better show at Conejo Valley days than at the Civic Arts Plaza. Sorry, but you asked.

    A fun couple of hours...

by SoCalScott on 3/5/24Scherr Forum- B of A Performing Arts Center, Thousand Oaks - Thousand Oaks

Rob Garrett captures the essence of Neil Diamond. He's not a naturally gifted performer, but his vocals and mannerisms were very reminiscent of Diamond. He brought the "schamltz"that Neil Diamond displayed in his concerts. It was a fun and entertaining couple of hours.

    Best Concert!

    by Mikki on 7/4/23

Rob Garrett and the band did an amazing tribute to Neil Diamond. He reminded me of why I love Neil Diamond music! I loved it so much that when I went home I watched "The Jazz Singer"!

    DIAMOND -at his BEST!!!

    by AVA7 on 7/4/23

Rob Garrett had the crowd in the palm of his hands from the minute he entered the showroom… The all-star production was not only a 4th of July patriotic themed spectacular, but it brought you down Neil’s memory lane of classics.. from the standing ovations, to the tears of emotion, to the rhythmic clapping of his nostalgic songs. A great, great production!

    Totally Awesome

    by CookbookLady on 7/4/23

Seeing Rob was like being at a Neil Diamond concert. He is the best I have ever seen short of seeing Neil Diamond in person. I hope I can see Rob perform again.

    M Resort

    by C. G. on 4/26/23

Previous reviewer Claire sho wrote two reviews has assisted Garrett in shows and is a sycophant. Not a legitimate review, as I believe some of the other 5 star reviews are also. This show is a very poor interpretation of Neil Diamond.

Save money, go to another show

    by C. G. on 4/26/23

Botox, waxed caterpillar eyebrows, 70’s hair and unbuttoned sequined shirt do not translate to a star. Garret obviously had his act choreographed, but he’s really stiff, like he’s trying to hard, and the band is so-so at best…..the pretty terrible band. Only those who are sycophants would enjoy this show.
