Fantastic concert! Every member are so very talented. A joy to see them perform.
Great artistry and harmony. Strings and drums were outstanding! Great band to see live!
Loved RA, but the venue could have done a better job with the sound. Often hard to make out the words of the song. That being said, the basic feel in the venue could not have been better.
Rising Appalachia brought their best to the Neptune. Glorious music. Exceptional talent. I did not care for the opening act and the theater is old so it's hard to see, but it didn't matter because the music was wonderful. See them in person if you ever get the chance.
Rising Appalachia are a must see performance that will activate and inspire, enthralling all senses into an expanded version of oneself! Don’t miss an opportunity to experience them in person! Also, love the Neptune theater!♥️♥️♥️
Best band I’ve seen in a long time! Super skilled and the way they interact with one another is sublime!
Loved the opening singer and really really loved Rising Appalachia! They are excellent musicians, I love their close harmony, their band is amazing, and I love their positive REAL messages. Three things were problematic for me: 1. People talking loudly through the music, especially the opener. Stay home if you are not there to listen! 2. The sound quality was poor. We sat in the balcony with our masks on for COVID risk management, and the sound was quite muffled for most of the show, making it hard to hear the words. 3. Personal for me: Medicine Woman is my favorite song of theirs and they did not play it. Other than that, energy was good and I am happy I went.
Love Rising Appalachia and their global music presence. They perform magic that heals on and off stage. 🙏🏽 Thankful
The opening act Cicada Rhythm was worth the price of admission. Rising Appalachia was amazing. Great great concert.
The show was fantastic. I found myself wishing it would never end. Stage presence and crowd engagement was just right. I seriously I could watch them play live more often. A true treat.
i really was hoping for the system to be a little louder, a lit of people were talking and it was sometimes louder than the singers. if not, top notch sound, great light show.
Rising Appalachia and their band were fantastic. Their harmonizing is wonderful, and it shows that they must rehearse and practice many hours to achieve that sound. Their backup musicians were outstanding. I have never heard a cello create those sounds! Some quibbles. The Brighton Music Hall, which I had not been too in a long time, is past its due date. It is a cramped, fairly uncomfortable venue. (The coat check room is about the size of a teaspoon.) Be Steadwell was an interesting lead-in. She has a very beautiful voice. I can't help thinking that being part of a band, rather than playing, and accompanying herself with both her own voice and various electronic sounds does not show her talents to the greatest advantage.
Opening act (Be Steadwell?) was entertaining, but got a bit boring by the 3rd or 4th song. Very nice voice with good range (frequency and dynamics). She built and looped her voice for each song -- clever seeing it once or twice, however, by the 3rd or 4th, we had seen it done and heard it done and it only served to take extra time. Would have been perfectly ok with me if she had arrived with pre-recorded background. Rising Appalachia has great harmonies and personalities. Instrumentation is highly supportive, although I'm not a big fan of the violinist playing odd harmonics and experimenting with bowing techniques -- I found a lot of it to be discordant where I wanted harmony. Most of the songs played were modern Americana, alt-folk/country, some Celtic-influenced stuff -- a real mix. Enjoyable across the board. The audience was filled with big fans who applauded generously at every song. However, the venue falls short for me. I had ADA accessible seating, which was half a dozen bar stools in the back of the hall. Unfortunately, there was a sea of people -- some very tall and some very wide and many of them swaying side to side -- between us and the performers. We couldn't see the band at all during the whole show. The live music sounded great, but at least part of the point of live music is to see the band perform; unfortunately, we missed this whole part of the experience. Occasionally, we asked the tallest and widest people to move a bit so we could see, but in general, all the average size & shape people effectively blocked the view of the stage anyhow. Truly detracted from the experience. $23 per ticket isn't a bad price, but we feel we missed a large part of the experience.
Firstly, the ladies, their sound and stage presence, AMAZING. The facilities were nice, but the seating is somewhat awkward (though the seats are comfortable). The way the seating is arranged also makes it hard to see the stage when folks decide to stand or dance. Overall though, a positive experience.
Blazing their own path with a keen eye for justice, Rising Appalachia put on a wonderful show, honoring folk music from different areas of the globe and sharing personal stories with the audience.
I really hope they come back again, I would go and see them every time they come.
My daughter and myself attended. I haven't been to PCMH since it was The Venue and was pleased that the acoustics were still perfect for a show. I've seen many shows but PCMH is #1 in maine to see a show! Friendly staff and organic jams made for a perfect mother daughter weekend out in Portland Maine!
The high energy from the opening act, Bele Bele Women's Drumming Collective, set the stage for Rising Appalachia, and dancing occurred around the edges of the stage for the rest of the show! Leah and Chloe commenced their sister harmonies, meaningful original songs as well as American and international traditional tunes accompanied in creative ways by the bass, hand drums, guitar, violin and banjo. In this venue, where the audience is required to remain quiet during the performance, the beauty of their music and harmonies could be heard by all! This is truly a unique band with a unique sound and vision of building community and encouraging local food and health resources. An excellent show from start to finish! The porch music reference was used by Chloe to describe their music as it does not really fit into any other standard category.
Rising Appalachia's songs and presence soothed the soul and set the spirit on firing. It was a most inspiring show!
brought a couple of doubters to the venue. As we were leaving, 4 out of 4 said the show was absolutely awesome, so yes, I'm the zen master talent scout, but Rising Appalachia makes any dumass capable of that. The whole show was 5 star rating
