About

Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey® returns this summer to the most notable boardwalk on the eastern seaboard with a mystical all-new edition, The Coney Island IlluscinationSM.  Ringling Bros.® weaves intrigue and fun as Children of All Ages follow Illuscinator David DaVinci through outlandish, heart racing transformations including suspending himself perilously directly above a pack of lions in an attempt to escape from the confines of a straight jacket.  DaVinci introduces more unfathomable acts than ever before.  Two female aerialists defy the sheer force of gravity, soaring 35 feet above the audience, suspended solely by the strands of their hair. The Kung Fu Kings present the inexplicable which includes challenging centrifugal force by diving blindfolded through a spinning ring of fire intertwined with 40 swords! Even our majestic Asian elephants return with a spellbinding presentation that will leave audiences entranced. See this and much more at The Coney Island Illuscination.

    Good Show

by FunnyFaces on 9/7/10Coney Island - Brooklyn

I chose this show to take my 3-year old son to his first circus. He enjoyed it immensely. The 1-ring setup makes for a cozy atmosphere. Although we sat in the first row, there really isn't a bad seat in the house. Come back to Coney Island again!

My family and I were amazed by the magic acts that were performed along with the animal acts. We really enjoyed ourselves and I would recommend this show to anyone who wants to be entertained.

    Fun Circus

    by Miz42 on 9/7/10Coney Island - Brooklyn

I hadn't been to the circus since I was a kid and it was really fun. How they get those animals to do those things is simply amazing! The clowns were "modernized" which was good. Facility was fine. It was nice that it was smaller so we were all closer to the action.

    One Ring Circus Review

    by Chunk99 on 9/6/10Coney Island - Brooklyn

We definitely liked the one ring format and the close proximity to the stage. The only disappointment is the banners displaying guys on motorcycles on the way into the show, so we expected to see something with motorcycles - we thought maybe the motorcycles in the round cage or something like that. We felt it was a little misleading since there was no motorcycle act.

I really enjoyed the performers efforts to entertain everyone and the interaction with the audience. I also appreciated the opportunity to participate in a quiz for the chance to win a new Wii game Barnum & Bailey. I love my dad for buying the tickets and taking there over the weekend. p.s. thanks dad for the DS Game too.

    Fun,laughs and thrills

by confectioner on 9/4/10Coney Island - Brooklyn

Getting to the Circus was important, even though my children are 10 and 12 they really enjoyed it. Getting to the Preshow just before 6pm was teriffic as we got to see the animals on one side on the other got to sit around the ring for a small demonstration and some audience participation. Stevie is funny, I enjoyed the clowns. The tent was delightfully air-conditioned and had plenty of room but it's a one ruing show and some of the aerial acts and tightrope walking suffered but this was a small penalty to the up-close and personal touch that made the show very immediate and approachable. The cheapest tickets come with some benefits and drawbacks but the staff was friendly. Trinkets and some food is just really expensive, I wish they would forget the frills. Cotton candy is sold with a pointed hat for $10. Sell the candy and the hat individually. Still the parking was good, Coney Island is a great location and the excitment, thrills, elephants, trained cats, horses and acrobats really give an earnest, friendly effort. At times I was completely mesmerised.

Ringling Bros. Barnum & Bailey Circus

    by Janette67 on 9/4/10Coney Island - Brooklyn

My grandchildren and I had the best time ever. We always go to the traveling Cole Bros. Circus in Staten Island every year and never had the opportunity to see the Real Ringling Bros. Circus until now. It brought back all the memories of my childhood and my Uncle and Aunt taking me and my sister to Manhattan for the Circus. It had everything I remember as a child and more. Thank You. Janette

The show was amazing!!! the only thing was security was not top. There was an incident and it took security awhile to respond. If this was at any other stadium or location security would have responded much faster. I would not have felt comfortable with my two children without my husband present. The show itself was great. The clowns were fun, the animals were amazzing

Worth the cost of ringside seats!

by PapaDan on 9/1/10Coney Island - Brooklyn

I've been going to various circuses since I was a kid and this was one of the best! It didn't have the large scale spectacle of the three ring show you might see in Madison Square Garden, but it was as enjoyable to watch as any circus I've seen. This was by far better than those other one-ring circuses with pretentious names. My 5-year old and 7-year old sat mesmerized for over two hours and there was not an act that I didn't enjoy. The acts were great and so were the staff. The ushers were helpful and the venders were friendly without being pushy. I had a minor incident with one of the contract security guards. He intervened in a situation regarding the validity of my ticket to get me in to see the animals after the circus. His way of phrasing things was not exactly keeping with good customer service but ultimately he did the right thing in terms of honoring my ticket. These things happen, but what impressed me was that when I did speak with someone who was from the Ringling Bros. management he was extremely cordial and proactive in addressing my comments and made me want to come back next year. We had ringside seats front and center that provided a great view and really made you feel like you were part of the show. The VIP seats were directly behind us at the same level as us so if someone tall sat in front of you it might be difficult to see some of the acts. Still there were several acts high enough above the floor that this would not be an issue. If you don’t want to spend the money on ringside seats the front of the bleachers are inclined and provide a good view. Prior to going, I read comments on line that the air conditioning was excessive. We went on a day just after a temporary break in this summer’s heat wave and it appeared they had turned the AC down to a comfortable level. At the end of the performance it started to feel a little colder so you might want to bring a sweater. There is a parking lot on 21st street directly across from the show. At $10 it’s probably worth parking there, but if you see the later show I’m not sure if the lot is open (or monitored) late enough for you to have time to stroll the boardwalk. There is what appears to be a more secure lot by the baseball stadium a couple of blocks away. Another thing I read on line was about a lion that appeared old and tired. The male lion did appear to be extremely old and in fact fell asleep while the female lions were doing all the work. This didn’t take away anything from the performance for my kids. I don’t know how that lion got in the show but it appears that at his age he’s much better off in the circus than in the wild. They are strict about not allowing outside food and the food they do have is very expensive especially compared to what’s available on the Coney Island boardwalk. The souvenirs were also a little less pricey but we did purchase a few things. Overall this was a great experience for my family. If the circus returns next summer I believe that we will also.

    My fist and last time

by Sizigy on 8/29/10Coney Island - Brooklyn

I took my child to the circus yesterday because she asked for it as a birthday gift. I have to say I was very underwhelm by the whole thing. I do have to give credit to the performers and crew for choosing to do something they apparently love and sticking with it. The bad condition of the animals and the fact that they are forced to perform really broke my heart and I feel guilty for contributing to them being there. I also felt robbed for paying $50.00 for ring site seats when it really did not make any difference where you sit being that the place is not so big that if you are sitting in the last road you wouldn't be able to appreciate the show. All tickets should cost the same, as a matter of fact if you are all the way in the back you get a better view because you can appreciate the whole ring as opposed to being all the way at the front where you need to keep turning your head from left to right. just like in the movie theater, all one price. first come first serve.
