Ringling Brothers and Barnum nad Bailey Circus

by GrandmaFern on 5/9/17Dunkin' Donuts Center - Providence

I had not been to the Ringling Bros circus for at least 20 years, since my kids were little and I wanted to take my grandchildren to the circus since this was the last year for it. I remember well the circus from the past with the three rings, elephants, alligators, trapeze, beautiful costumes and even lions and bears. This weekend's circus was a hit for my grandchildren who had nothing to compare it to but I did. And it really came up short. There were not three rings but only one ring. The only animals were the dog act which was very cute, I have to say, the camels and the tigers. Not very spectacular. Gone was time when the trainer put his head in the tiger's mouth or was it the lion's mouth? Same thing. The trapeze was a poor imitation of past acts and what I missed the most was the clown acts. These clowns did not dress like the old time clowns, they didnt pile out of a cute little clown car and they were not at all funny. And the costumes were not at all as colorful and bright as in the past. They kept calling this the Circus Xtreme and I could not see why.........just a poor imitation of circuses of the past.

Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus - Great

by Christmasnut on 5/9/17Dunkin' Donuts Center - Providence

It was such a treat, yet sad, to have seen a final performance of The Greatest Show On Earth! I missed the elephants. So much razzle dazzle, colorful costumes, great acts. Took the grand-kids so they too, could see this marvel before it's gone. I think their jaws dropped for almost the entire time, except while eating. Took many pictures, bought a program and grabbed some souvenirs. These will now be collector items. If you get a chance, go see it one last time. You won't regret it - you will regret not going. Loved it!

Amazing! A very nice final farewell for the circus. The highlight of the show for me was the tigers, but all acts were impressive. Fun for all ages!

    the worst show on earth

by TrueRealReview on 5/9/17Dunkin' Donuts Center - Providence

Save your money. There is a good reason this circus is closing. Should be called "the worst show on earth". Boring, sad rendition of a show that used to be great. Remember the 3 ring circus where there was always something to watch? You get none of that with this show. 1 act at a time that is boring and uneventful. Clowns are suppose to make you laugh. These clown do not. Throwing a frisbee trying to land it in a garbage can is not funny. Flipping a over sized foam milk jug to land standing up is not funny. Guys jumping on a trampolene and guys riding bicycles are what they call extreme. Just a all around bad show. and that popcorn's going to cost you 10 bucks cotton candy with a cheap hat attached will cost you $15. Stick a fork in it it's done. A circus used to be exciting with something to watch now you'll find yourself looking at your watch wondering when this pathetic show is going to end. Pure Failure. Save your money.

    Greatest Show on Earth

by dmp61 on 5/9/17Dunkin' Donuts Center - Providence

The show in Providence was very good and sold out. We had seen the show 27 years ago and am glad that we were able to see one of the last shows ever. Would highly recommend seeing before they no longer exist.

    Waste of time and money

by BillNeedhamMA on 5/9/17Dunkin' Donuts Center - Providence

I knew that the elephants had been retired, but was under the impression from recent articles that they still had a lot of other animals. Acrobatic feats were great, the tiger act (2nd half) was great, and the dog show (2nd act) was also entertaining. Camels being ridden in first half was OK. But those were the only animals, so we were very disappointed. Music was much too loud and blaring. The overall tone of music and dancing and even the clowns had a very urban feel to it, rather than the family entertainment feel I remember from Ringling Brothers circus when I went as a child in the '70s. Intermission was 23 minutes long and the show ended 1:50 after it started, so the performance time was just 1:30. It's unfortunate that this is what we're left with after the animal rights people pressured them to retire the elephants. I can see why ticket sales plummeted and why they had to close it. Very sad to see the decline from the majesty and magic I remember from my childhood and wanted to give my family a chance to experience one last time.

    Amazing finale

by 1970baby on 5/9/17Dunkin' Donuts Center - Providence

I've been to Ringling Bros. Barnum & Bailey circus too many times to count. I couldn't miss this last tour, and it definitely did not disappoint! This was one of the best shows I've seen them do. There were new kinds of acts and even the clowns, who are not generally my favorites, were fantastic. I am so sad that the company is going out of business. Post-elephants, they clearly put significant thought into revisioning the performance. They will be missed.

    Love the Circus

by indy500rdr on 5/9/17Dunkin' Donuts Center - Providence

I am extremely disappointed that my six year old daughter will not get to enjoy the circus anymore. She has gone every year for the past 6 years. Thanks to groups like PETA and other organizations we will no longer get this opportunity again as a family. I personally would like to thank Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus for the years of enjoyment they have provided my family and wish them the best ! ! ! ! !

    Greatest show on earth

by Pedirn1 on 5/9/17Dunkin' Donuts Center - Providence

Very bittersweet to see the last Barnum and Bailey circus ever. We have attended the circus since my children were little, over 30 years ago and now bring the grandchildren. It wasn't the best we have seen, we missed the elephants, but especially loved the acrobats. As my 6 year old granddaughter said, "this is the greatest show on earth"

    Entertaining Show

by AnotherCrazyGuy on 5/8/17Dunkin' Donuts Center - Providence

I would have to agree with many of the other reviews written that this is certainly NOT RB, and B&B Circus' finest show compilation of all time. There aren't a lot of animals, but that's understandable in this day and age - I think most circus goer's could probably not begin to imagine the flack and bad press that a show like this has gotten in the modern era of the past decade. But things change, and the circus has had to change. That said, the show was quite entertaining, with a mix of acrobatics, dance, lots of show/glitz, camels, dogs, tigers, and other elements. The show started on time, was 2 hours long, including a 20 minute intermission, and was quite affordable I thought. Definitely a thumb's up and something to take the kids too.
