We saw the Ringling Brothers circus in Bangor Maine, Nov. 2013, I thought it was excellent. Granted, it was much smaller than I thought it would be, this was NOT the three-ring extravaganza of my youth. And there was only 1 clown. ONE clown! However, my six about-to-be-seven year old and her friends had a BLAST. The pre-show, at first I thought was not so wonderful, until I saw the faces of the kids, they were OVER THE TOP excited. Trying on costumes, seeing the animals up close. But you must get to the show way early to be in those doors right away, the pre show is only 1 hour. In Bangor the venue is smaller than I imagine it would be in bigger cities, we arrived half an hour before the doors opened, which was an hour and a half total before the circus began. 10 minutes was wasted trying to find the correct aisle at the venue to get us to the bottom of the arena, as no signs pointed the way, but still, we had time to do everything we wanted to do at the preshow. Without the preshow the circus would have still been fun, it is choreographed to keep kids attention from start to finish. It was not at all shabby. Not grand either, but the performers were all very good. Looking through adult eyes, they were just people making a living doing what they enjoy, but through the children's eyes, they were MAGICAL people performing feats no one else could do! A great night. We paid $22.50 per ticket and were in the second row, (not on the floor which was folding chairs, but in the venue seats). I think I would have been pleased if I'd had to pay $35 or $40 a seat, but not more. Then again, we live in a remote area 2 hours from Bangor, and had to stay overnight and get meals too, perhaps I would have been willing to pay more if I lived locally. Anyway, my child will remember the night forever. WELL worth the price we paid, even with hotel and meals!
