First of all, Bill Medley is amazing! He may be 76 chronologically, but in spirit and appearance, he's a much younger man. The Birchmere was packed with fans. He hit every song in the same manner that you remember from the radio. Not all performers can still do that. He is very comfortable with the onstage banter and is genuinely amusing, not forced.
While it is a shame that we lost Bobby Hatfield, Bucky Heard deserves credit where credit is due. He handles the Bobby Hatfield role wonderfully and what a range. He even sang a bit of Pavarotti beautifully. He is very talented and rolls with Bill Meadly very well, they are a good match despite their age difference.
The musicians were each gifted in their own way. Special kudos to the blues guitarist, John Weidemeyer (spell?) . Had there been room, everyone would have gotten up to dance, but we did it in our chairs. We all know that no dance is complete without a few slow dances by The Righteous Brothers. It was probably my favorite performance of all that I've attended at The Birchmere.
Aside from this tour, they are appearing at Harrahs in Vegas, Tuesdays-Thursdays. If you are there, go see them while you can. You'll be singing every song!
